Funny thing you should say that, thats currently the movie im hunting down and trying to watch.
If you have any of the HBO channels, try there. They've been playing it quite often on those channels. I watched it 3 days ago actually.

i thought The Others and Bridge to Terabithia were pretty sad.

What is the saddest movie you have seen ever in your life?
Stalingrad.

"Stalingrad is a 1993 film by Joseph Vilsmaier, which depicts the horrors of combat on the Eastern Front of World War II in a realistic and unromanticized fashion."

If this film doesn't suck the joy out of you for a few hours, I don't know what will.
Depressing.
Sad.
Phew.

One Day in September

Being There

Munich

West Side Story

Sound of Music

Garden of the Finzi-Continis

Rain Man, Rain Man

The Lion King

Celluloid Temptation Facilitator
I typically avoid sad movies. I have enough sadness that I don't seek it out in my entertainment.

My choice would be Old Yeller. I watched that ages and ages ago but it was so sad. I had no idea when I was a kid that it would be. I suspect most of my movies were picked by the adults around me back then.

Why's there a gun in your trousers?
I dont know about the single sadest movie, but there are a few movies that are pretty depressing...

Gladiator....tell me you dont get a little sobbish at the end. That damn music!!!

The Lion King...If you dont feel at least a little sad when Mufassa dies, you have no soul.

I also remember crying like a little bitch at the end of Shane...so so so sad...

I'm not saying anything new, but Francois Truffaut's films have the most exquisite sadness. Best examplesare Jules and Jim, Two English Girls, and Small Change.

Certifiably troglodytic.

I wept a bit driving down the interstate in 1996 when I heard that Carl Sagan died. He was largely responsible for turning me on to astronomy when I was just a kidlet.

The film was sad for me because of the anticipation of its release when Sagan died just months before its release. There's a black screen at the end with a two simple words:
WARNING: "Contact" spoilers below
For Carl

Love The Hard Way - I've never wanted to slit my wrist more out of pure sorrow. I'm fairly certain this movie alone made me eat a pint of ice cream just to feel normal again.

Legends of the Fall - Yeah, because I want to watch a man lose everything dear to him. What a pick-me-up. -.-

When i was a kid it was the Lion King or some movie on a dog than ran away from home, i think it was called Napolean.

I never realy cry during movies, Click nearly got me though. But i did in the Green Mile, during that scene when Coffie is watching that movie just before he got exucuted.
