Trouble with a capitial 'T'
Arrival - 9/10. Just stunning. Beautiful. Heartfelt. Intelligent. Puzzling. Thoughtful. Genius.

The film of 2016.
You convinced me to watch it! besides it has Amy Adams...though it's not released on DVD yet. Hopefully soon

Women will be your undoing, Pépé
haha, i didn't know this. Think it was just us two that did it.
yeah, when CR invited me I thought I was down to the wire so I quickly ran through a few lists trying to find something that wasn't too known and got a really good vibe when I saw the title and that Laughton was in it.

Wonder if anyone else ever did a blind grab when nominating?

Guap nominated the Ghibli Documentary: The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness and Cricket nominated Triumph of the Will without having seen them for the Documentary HOF. Think a few others might have done it too, not sure.

This was the first time i even considered it. The main reason i did was because i'm planning on watching lesser known films for the 40s Countdown and i know the HOFs have a big influence on what does and doesn't make the Countdown. I am a bit disappointed i didn't wait til later to make that post i did, at the time i thought i wasn't going to join but i changed my mind. I would've nominated Le Corbeau if i hadn't already mentioned it.

I also nominated something I hadn't seen (The Crowd) for the Silent Era Hall of Fame, a great recommendation from Mark.

If i knew it would end up with just five lists i would've did the same.

Have you seen Le Corbeau? Just read up on it on IMDB sounds pretty intense

and Cricket, you can NEVER go wrong with a recommendation from Mark.
I got a GREAT recommendation from Mark weeks ago, and the movie is on Youtube -- "Lies My Father Told Me" - I think I rated it a 9/10 which is pretty great considering it was a first watch.

You mean me? Kei's cousin?

This was really good, not as good as the original but definitely not far off glad i gave it a chance, I never watch horror (or any really) remakes but JJ told me this was pretty solid and i have to agree. The original was better for several reasons so i won't bother comparing them, other than one place: casting, who the hell thought of Elijah Wood haha? He was great, the exact opposite of the big fat, sweaty, Joe Spinelli; i think the girl he meets at the starts line about thinking that he would look like that was probably a reference to it. The first murder scene is so messed up, partly because i adore the song that's played during it. The sclaping part no matter how obviously fake is still just nasty; it probably is much worse because of the following bathroom and redlucy86 scenes. Damn, even though it's mostly a voiceover i think Elijah did a great job here: weirdo haha. Anyway that's pretty much it, i thought Elijah pulled off a really weird, weirdo, really well. The music was fantastic although seriously unnerving since i had to come to terms with the fact that i usually listen to these songs in this serial killer film on my own sometimes like a serial killer.

Other than the point of view aspect and a few simple story points that you'd expect in all serial killer films, it felt like it's own film, Elijahs character didn't have much similarities to his 80s counterpart at all. If we are comparing it to the 80s one, then i think it falls short on, atmosphere, tension, weird(o)ness and most of all 'sweaty' Joe Spinellis amazing performance. All of this was pretty solid in the remake IMO, though, and it had better music.

I also want to add that i said Tobey Maguire instead of Elijah Wood at first

Midnight Special (2016)

I watched this for the upcoming Sci-Fi countdown because I like the director's Take Shelter and Mud, and I like the acting threesome of Shannon Edgerton, and Dunse. It's a pretty solid flick, but after a great first half hour, I was checking the clock.

Finished here. It's been fun.

Eastwood's greatest film? Perhaps. Costner has never been better, and the child actor, T.J. Lowther, was incredible as well. A film of great warmth, sincerity, and beauty. A young child looking for a father figure; an older men wanting to be the father he had never had. Between this and Honkytonk Man, it seems that Eastwood's best films are not his westerns.

Hacksaw Ridge - 10/10 the best war movie I ever saw. I'm going to the cinema to see it for the second time I had heard before I went to the movies that at festival in Cannes it got standing ovations for 15 minutes. Now I know why

- Extended edition(extra 15ish minutes)

After watching this extended edition, the original shorter cinema release was far better for me - the extended edition added most of the dance sequence used in the end credits in the actual film, one silly sequence with the villain and dodgy effects, a f*** you that wasn't needed, scenes that went on for too long(mostly scenes that didn't appear at all in the cinema release and were rather repetitive), even changed some one liners that were not as funny as the original one liners used.

Although, the extra Kate 'Ghost T*ts' Mckinnon scenes were of course welcome.

Still adore the original release, gave it four stars I think, but will not be watching the extended edition again.
