I cannot believe that Pinocchio has yet to be mentioned... or even Fantasia.
Snow White may have been the precursor of these animations but it's not in the same league of Pinocchio and Fantasia which were released a year later.
Think about what the animators had at their disposal back then compared to what they have now and you must appreciate the craft. Today, the animation in Pinocchio is of a higher standard than that of Hearts of Atlantis due mainly to the tireless perfectionism of Mr Walt Disney.
There are a number of Disney haters out there. I can't understand this. His company has always taken animation to new levels. Like another poster said, his animated films were never designed purely for children. Elements in Snow White (The Wicked Witch), Pinocchio (Monstro the Whale) and Fantasia (Brooms aren't supposed to dance, you know) are amongst the most frightening moments in movie history. His death stalled the high standards but the studio recovered to release Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King, three of the best movies from the last decade. Disney, also, started the trend in computer animation by producing the incomparable Toy Story series.
Walt Disney productions may have produced some overly sentimental live action films and their animation output has been dodgy at times, but when Disney is on fire, there is no other studio that can make better movie magic.
Oh? And I'm not going to dignify the racist Disney comments with a reply. Let's leave the dead rest.
