Hi all. Let's see... my favorites are:

1) Yellow Submarine
2) Heavy Metal
3) Pink Floyd The Wall

Maybe I'm older than most of you, or I just like music a lot more

I honestly didn't look at a lot of what's been mentioned but I haven't seen The Nightmare Before Christmas which is hands down the best animated feature of all time. I'm not an anime fan, however I would like to agree wholeheartedly that Ninja Scroll deserves mention. Others: Wallace and Gromit, Toy Story.

I don't know that A Nightmare Before Christmas is the greatest ever...but it is, at the very least, among the top 2 or 3 of all time. It really is an amazing movie. "What's This" is the best original, lyrical song created for a motion picture that I can ever recall hearing.

Hmm. I'm such a fan of animation there's just too many to name. I really liked Balto, being that it's not Disney made it all the more appealing. But I like a lot of Disney stuff too. I also thought Who Framed Roger Rabbit was great. Probably the best mix of animation and live action we'll ever see.

Transformers the movie has to be the finest animated movie of all time, with its upbeat electric rock score and the tremendous vocal talents of Judd Nelson, Lenard Nimoy and the late Orson Welles (his final work - sadly - not really a fitting final piece). Hopefully you can sense that I'm pulling your leg slightly but it certainly is an exciting flick. "Me Grimlock. Me King!"

For those who like Heavy Metal, didn't you find the level of misogyny towards women uncomfortable, I did... For all those seeking anime of a different kind to the post-apocalyptic scenario's that usually occur, check out Perfect Blue, a superb commentry on the pressure of celbrity and the darkside that lurks within its existance.

The best Disney film seems to be a common topic, i'll throw Robin Hood into the ring (narrated by Peter Ustinov, a British treasure), surely the finest of Disneys best animated films...

I love that film!! pure genius!

Hi.
New here.

My favorite animated film would have to be Disney's The Jungle Book" followed up by another from the same period "The Aristocats". The more recent Disney films although good, are slowly becoming more computer orientateted (of don't of course mean your "Toy Story"s and "Bugs Life"s and "Shrek"s, I'm talking about computer enhancing hand drawn.)

I must say (to raise of few skeletons) that I was interested in the stuff about "The Lion King" but it does not suprise me at all. "Dumbo" as it has been said is full of racist references and I think if you look into it, the vultures from "The Jungle Book" are probably a recreation of the crows from "Dumbo". Another racist discourse? Perhaps.

I think it also fitting to point out that Walt Disney himself was a fascist. His preoccupation with railroads parralelled his preoccupation with lowering the sub-cultures of his country that weren't White European. His historial references in his parks are centered around the ahcivments of white Europeans. In American history he conviniently leaves out any trace of black slavery, because the fact we once imprisoned blacks does not matter. A theme park is, in fact, simply a controled environment in which a propetier can basically mould the sensual stimuli that makes you feel and think what he wants you to feel and think, mind control, in short.

So these are probably not as far fetched as they seem.

I honestly don't believe it. I can buy that Walt Disney had some whacked out beliefs (despite the fact that he was quite the visionary), but I can't buy that there's racism in "The Lion King." The whole argument is that it portrays dark as evil...but the dark is a scary thing to kids. Is it racist to call it "Black Magic" or "The Dark Arts," too? Black is the color of darkness, and represents evil to many people...it doesn't mean anything about any race of people. For crying out loud, Whoopi Goldberg and James Earl Jones are two major characters in the movie...and even Goldberg, who plays a bad guy, turns away from the ultimate bad guy in the end...who is Jeremy Irons, the whitest man alive.

Besides, Disney is dead now. I seriously doubt any of his racist policies are being carried out after his death. I do also doubt the accusations concerning his older films, but I wouldn't consider them crazy, the way I do this Lion King theory...

I cannot believe that Pinocchio has yet to be mentioned... or even Fantasia.

Snow White may have been the precursor of these animations but it's not in the same league of Pinocchio and Fantasia which were released a year later.

Think about what the animators had at their disposal back then compared to what they have now and you must appreciate the craft. Today, the animation in Pinocchio is of a higher standard than that of Hearts of Atlantis due mainly to the tireless perfectionism of Mr Walt Disney.

There are a number of Disney haters out there. I can't understand this. His company has always taken animation to new levels. Like another poster said, his animated films were never designed purely for children. Elements in Snow White (The Wicked Witch), Pinocchio (Monstro the Whale) and Fantasia (Brooms aren't supposed to dance, you know) are amongst the most frightening moments in movie history. His death stalled the high standards but the studio recovered to release Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King, three of the best movies from the last decade. Disney, also, started the trend in computer animation by producing the incomparable Toy Story series.

Walt Disney productions may have produced some overly sentimental live action films and their animation output has been dodgy at times, but when Disney is on fire, there is no other studio that can make better movie magic.

Oh? And I'm not going to dignify the racist Disney comments with a reply. Let's leave the dead rest.

My favorite Disney movie is Sleeping Beauty, without a doubt.
  • Animation-wise it was something totally new and original.
  • Maleficent(sp?) is the best Disney villain, by far.
  • The sequence where Maleficent manipulates Aurora into pricking her finger is awesome.
  • Listen to Maleficent when she's talking to Philip in the dungeon. Tell me that's not an awesome scene.
  • And, finally, it just makes me happy.

However, I think the best animation I've ever seen in a movie was Lady and the Tramp. That movie is a pure work of art and animation at its finest.

I ain't gettin' in no fryer!
I would have to say best would be Final Fantasy, only because it was so life-like, but other than that, non-CG would have to be, hmmm, well I can't think of one, yes I can. Princess Mononoke. Very well done. A good story too. I suggest it to those who haven't seen it.

I'm not saying I hate Disney, I love Disney.
I'm just saying that he may not be everything he's all cracked up to be.

And by the way, he didn't revitalise the golden day of animation with "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast". He didn't start the computer animation craze. He was very, very, very DEAD by this stage.

It was his nephew Roy who is the new vice-president of Disney corp. and produced "Fantasia 2000". I've met the guy, shaken his hand.
