I'm not totally sure, tbh. I saw it on the big screen when it came out and liked it a lot. Each time I've seen it since then (I think twice) I've expected to enjoy it a lot more than I actually do. I still really get into (approximately) the first half, when Sen's first becoming acquainted with the crazy fantasy world, but as the plot momentum starts to build near the end it really drops off for me. Not as bad as Howl's Moving Castle but Spirited Away still feels uneven to me and the ending feels particularly hollow (though not as bad as Howl's Moving Castle).

My disappointment is mainly due to all the movies that I think are overall much more satisfying that didn't make it as far, rather than actually disliking Spirited Away.

Gotcha. I probably should give it a re-watch myself. I'd have sooner voted for Mononoke instead, tbh.

Only matchup I've seen both of, liked both but Godfther is a quite a bit better. And I'm pretty sure Itll win it all.
