I never called you a geek. You brought up the word, are you trying to prove something here?
Lord of the rings is the most pretentiously, cliché, self-glorifying book I have ever had the dis-pleasure of dragging my attention through. The characters are far too many, and therefore lack depth, and development. None of them drew my interest. The so-called fellowship was hardly one at all. The collaboration of nine flat characters that achieved nothing was the pinnacle of this books low points. And yes that is ironic. On another level, LOTR is just dull. That level being the back round of the story. Why were these rings made? And why did they have such immense power? None of this is answered. I really cannot bring myself to see the rings power. It is just a ring. Throw out any clichéd remark about how power is not based on size that you like. But in actuality it is. Power is based on size. The bigger a gun or bomb, or nation, or man, the more control it is likely to wield. Lord of the rings is just like Harry potter. It is a story that because of it's grandeur, and fantasy back round, is able to captivate millions. I am not one of those millions. You may be, but I am not. This does not make you a "geek", it simply makes you more appreciative of this type of story. Which brings me back to my point. Lord of the rings is lame, boring, corny, and only enjoyed by the type of folks that find pleasure in an overly deep, perhaps pretentiously deep story. And if that's your cup of tea, by all means drink up. -my previous message with added substance.
