Please recommend new weird films

Hey )
I recommend it too Never Look Away. A fascinating psychological film about post-war Germany. It also talks about art, relationships and psychological illnesses. The film is fascinating, I watched it in one sitting
This looks awesome, thank you!

I don't know if it's your kind of weird but Apichatpong Weerasethakul's Memoria with Tilda Swinton was my favorite movie of 2021 and is certainly not conventional.
I enjoyed this. Not as much as some of Tilda’s other work (I watch everything of hers), but this was, forgive the pun, memorable.

Try eXistenZ. Its a weird film.
It’s pretty old (in the context of the timeline I had in mind), but I do really like it. The nineties are my favourite film decade and it’s because of stuff like this.

Just took in "Predestination" (2014). A braintwister of a time travel yarn. Ethan Hawke is a "temporal agent" who must flit around in time trying to prevent a disaster. Sarah Snook gives a marvelous, mind-blowing performance as, well ... you just gotta see it.
Yeah, that’s a favourite. Just how I like ‘em.

Massively looking forward to this but still not quite accessible here, as far as I know.

Edit: ah, I was wrong about that! Will try to see it on the big screen tomorrow.
I,too, have been having trouble accessing The Substance

It must be in cinemas somewhere by now. I mean, I largely hated it, but it was still worth watching.

The People's Joker was mentioned earlier but i'll second that, easily movie of the year, and add Last and First Men (2020), Interface (2022), The Metamorphosis of Birds (2020) and Please Baby Please (2022)

Victim of The Night
I recommend Liquid Sky (1982) a weird sci-fi.
I second or third or wherever we are on it now this.

I have heard of this movie.

Not a statement that one usually feels the need to say for when people recommend movies, but this one definitely hit the, "well, that was a real left field recommendation that I didn't see coming."
it's way out there.

The Guy Who Sees Movies
The Lighthouse (2019)
Oh yeah...Eggers gets it. To The Lighthouse, I'd add The Northman and The Witch. I can't wait for his new one, another Nosferatu remake. If anybody was going to reanimate that century old corpse, it would be Eggers.

Agreed. I’ve loved every single film of his, but The Northman might be my favourite so far.

I enjoyed it and it’s exactly the sort of thing I was looking for.

My pants ran off with an antelope.
I have an issue recommending weird films to people because I don't know what level of weird people want and I don't know what level of weird I perceive as weird enough for others. I watch what my circles consider weird films, and I consider them rather unique and different, although not overly weird. I remember in a game group of which I was a part we'd discuss movies while eating pizza and I'd bring up Japanese and Korean films, and the group would always say how weird those movies are. To me they didn't feel that weird. I find them different though they're hardly "weird", and yet every group member said how off the cuff and bizarre they are.

I guess it begs the question; if I like it, and it's Japanese or Korean, does that mean it's weird?

One more thing. Lighthouse is definitely weird. I found it to be different and unique. My ex-wife thought it was the weirdest movie she's ever seen. Now you can see where my trouble lies.

Addendum; apparently I had already replied to this thread. I'm still stewing over answers though. How about Velvet Buzzsaw? It's about some weird art scandal horror slasher thing. I remember it being a rather different film.

The Guy Who Sees Movies
It's possible to overthink something like "weird". We all know that your weird might not be mine, but it's a question intended to elicit a comment...what you find weird. If you Google for a definition of weird, you get so many definitions that it's not a word the lends itself to specificity.

It's weird because I say it it is. That's about it.

I can go with that. I probably did overthink it then.
