I think you're giving too much credit to his fan base in regards to whether or not they like his movie(s). I for one waited years for
House of 1000 Corpses to actually get released. And yah, I waited largely because it was Rob Zombie (though that killer teaser was what clinched it, but in the end that teaser had absolutely nothing to do with the movie). And I even dragged several friends to the theater, all people who are huge fans of Rob Zombie. Each and every one of 'em hated it. And each and every one of them shares your same opinion about
the Devil's Rejects because they didn't like the movie, despite the fact that they're all "fanboys". And it isn't just my group of friends, the film was crucifixed by the hardcore horror outlets for not reaching what it attempted.
The Devil's Rejects is not an exploitation horror film like
House was. Exploitation is a touch and go subset of horror in regards to whether it is entertaining or not and very few director's nail it. That isn't a justification for why
House was subpar, but you should consider that
Devil's Rejects is more of a revenge horror movie than grind house exploitation.
House was a contemporary attempt at original
Texas Chainsaw but far more exploitive and the two just didn't mix.
Devil's Rejects is going to be much more like
The Last House on the Left. Translation, it's going to be pretty insane.
But I have a soft spot for the genre and am more forgiving than the average viewer.
BTW, you spelt remembering wrong.
