1960s Movies Appreciation Thread

Tools

Made a 50s thread, so I figured I'd move on forward with a 60s one.

The movie in particular that motivated me to make this thread is Point Blank (1967). Probably one of the earliest examples of an action movie that might not be so far away from the action movies of today:

Some other 60s movies I've liked:

Inherit the Wind
The Train
Seven Days in May
The Dirty Dozen
The Magnificent Seven
Zulu
Where Eagles Dare
Zorba the Greek
Bullitt
Dr. No

The Guy Who Sees Movies
Dr Zhivago - AKA, Snow and Sex - Saw it years later with a girlfriend. It was somewhat long but definitely epic and explained to me that the Russian Revolution was there to silence poets among other things. I wanted my girlfriend to see me as the poetic Yuri rather than the puritanical Pasha Antipov, AKA, the bolshevik villain Strelnikov. I definitely did NOT want those glasses.

Amazing decade (but then again, I find every decade beautiful in their own way... except for 2010s and 2020s. The "now" is boring)... my focus this year has been on British cinema so far, who had probably their most rewarding time ever in the 60s? artistically...

Daydreamer Tom Courtenay and Show-stealer Julie Christie in Billy Liar (1963).

Only in the 60s could you find Alphaville.

It's the link I never imagined would exist between Out of the Past on the one side, and Blade Runner, 2001 Space Odyssey, Logan's Run, Naked Gun on the other side.

It's also about love, what it means to be human, and - the carbon of movies - light.

It's about the most inventive film you'll ever see.

And on top of it all it's probably in the all time top 10 of most beautiful pieces of movie art.

Logan's Run came out in 1976, not in the 1960s.

Instead of going over the usuals, here are some more "obscure" favorites...

Black Girl -

The Whisperers -

Seconds -

Seven Days in May -

Dead Ringer -

Ship of Fools -

The Masque of the Red Death -

The 10th Victim -

The Naked Kiss -

Experiment in Terror -

Sergeant Rutledge -

Sabata -

Barabbas -

Memories of Underdevelopment -

The Day of the Triffids -

Twelve Hours to Kill -

Spring Night, Summer Night -

Regardless of ratings, I consider all of these worthy and interesting watches.

Naked Gun came out in the 90s and Out of the Past came out in the 40s!
Doesn't matter, this is a 1960s appreciation thread and you listed films from other decades.

And I won't watch Naked Gun.

Naked Gun is the best 60s film.
You must watch it.

The trick is not minding

Relax, MG . He merely listed them as films he appreciated in relation to Alphaville, a movie from the 60’s, rather then as films of the 60’s.

Trouble with a capitial 'T'
Not a list of my favorite 60s movies and not a list of favorite obscure movies...Just a list of some 60s films I've decided to watch:

Armored Command (1961)
A Swingin' Summer (1965)
Journey to the Center of Time (1967)
One Million Years B.C. (1966)
Submarine X-1 (1968)
