Juror No. 2 - Clint Eastwood

This is back in production! They had a few weeks left, so it should finish filming in December. Not sure what is going on with Clint though. The incredibly long beard is not a good look!

According to Jordan Ruimy of World of Reel, this is not planned to be released this year. This is incredibly disappointing for me. It has been done for some time and has already received a PG-13 rating from the MPAA. Eastwood films typically are released around 6 months after they start production, and this film finished filming in December of 2023. Jordan Ruimy also had reported previously that Warners didn't see this as figuring into its Oscar campaign for 2024, which indicates to me they likely aren't holding this back for an awards campaign. I know Warners has other heavy hitters, like "Joker 2", coming out this year, but Eastwood's films in this era of his career haven't typically received a big promotional push, so that really shouldn't matter. I really don't understand this decision, as it was commonly thought that this would be coming out in Fall of 2024, which already would have been later than most recent Eastwood films relative to when they finished filming. I thought I'd ask some of you more knowledgeable MOFos about why you think this might be happening. What does everyone think?

Yeah, it's hard to know why it might not be released until next year. As AKA said, the production wrapped in April so one might expect an October release.

Perhaps there were differences over editing, or perhaps re-shoots were needed. Maybe they can't get the premiere venue they wanted...

It'll be a good one though.

Maybe Zaslav wants this movie Batgirled.

That might be more fun than this!

Here's the options as I see them, and I would be interested to hear what others perspectives are on which they think is the most likely: The movie is bad, and they don't want to release it this year because they want to focus on promoting better movies. The movie is good, and they want to hold it for an Oscars qualifying release, and there's no room for that this year, potentially for one of the actors (Toni Collette, for example, has never won an Oscar, and Eastwood has a pretty good track record of both having cast members nominated, as well as sometimes winning, Oscars, in films that he's directed). Warners doesn't plan to finance any more Eastwood films, and even though Clint would likely like to continue after this film is released, according to World of Reel, Warners still plans on it being his last film, and do in fact want to do a promotional campaign to honor him, and so they're delaying the release because doing that would defer resources from other films they plan to campaign for Oscars this year. I think the third is unlikely, because Clint probably would want to keep his options open to make other films, either for Warners, or potentially another outlet, and an announcement that this will be his last film would likely preclude doing that at his age.

There's most often a simple answer to these types of things. What surprises me, what with all the gab, gossip, and tody's instantaneous digital capacity, is that someone hasn't yet exposed the reason for the delay.

Juror No 2 has been brought forward to make its world premiere at the AFI Film Festival with a screening at the TCL Chinese Theatre on October 27. The film will then open in select theaters on November 1. Prior to the screening, a short retrospective documentary will be presented.
Clint will be participating in interviews and shoots throughout the week... #Juror2
