haha. Was joking, i've not seen it but doubt there's some jailhouse romantic subplot. Wait there probably is, that would be horrifying.

There might be a romance element in it. From memory he met his first wife in there. You know, the type of woman who becomes a pen pal to a jail bird then wants to white knight him.
Nesto, Shine is a great movie. Rush was sublime (I just imagined saying that with his posh accent)
Shine was my introduction to Rush. AMAZING film!!

Definitely get that. I went a full month pretty much of horrors and bleak drama's, ended it with a crazy/funny documentary and it was such a welcome change of pace.

my exact reaction as well, @Dani8. Sad but VERY uplifting. The joy he had jumping on the trampoline was completely infectious.
Get Out
This is certainly not a 'subtle' film, but it addresses racial issues with more nuance than I had initially expected. There are elements which are slightly undercooked, but on the whole, a very entertaining horror film. Viewed at the cinema with a very energetic crowd, which helped make this one of the more memorable filmgoing experiences in recent memory.

The Fate of the Furious (2017)
They did it again. 8 movies in and they are still good. At least I am still on board for this slam bang sub-serious sarcastic submarine mania of a movie franchise...
These movies have long moved on from merely fast cars and racing but the cars are still there and thankfully the characters are too. And by this point in the franchise it has embraced its own crazy self even more then the already glimpse-in-the-eye entries of the last three movies - in particular Furious 7. Of course, objectively it can get a little too much of the good stuff with the one liners and the insults and whatnot, but mostly it works for the franchise and I had a great time. The action is surprisingly not as over the top ridiculous as earlier. In my opinion this movie doesn't have much of scenes like the Dom and Letty catch from 6 or the skyscraper car jump from 7. It is insane action yes, but not over the top ridiculous in illogical ways, it's just... overwhelming... or maybe I'm just getting too used to this franchise.
or maybe the execution is so good that it doesn't give my brain time to think it any further through. Nevertheless, it's fast, it's fun and after the halfway mark it just seemed to never let go. I was surprised we were through more than 2 hours of film when it ended...
These movies are not plain stupidity, they are intelligent stupidity. This is a multi million dollar franchise on its eight movie and it knows what it is and has become and I'm willingly in on the fun because everyone else seems to be - in front and behind the camera. I have such an amazing good old fun time when I go see these movies and having a smile on my face for at least 50% of the time should be a good indicator. The story is messy and clunky and there is a lot of characters and things going on which could be a valuable criticism, but does it really matter much in a film like this and in a franchise on its eighth film?
Sit back and enjoy people... It's okay you can like this and still go back to watching Béla Tarr movies on repeat.

Spider (Cronenberg, 2002)

This is the fifteenth picture from David Cronenberg which I've had the pleasure to watch. It's probably his most technical and meticulously composed effort which makes it a pity that it hasn't been blessed with a Blu Ray transfer as of yet. What it lacks in traditional Cronenbergian shock, it makes up for in emotional trauma and domestic terror. It's a reserved portrait of a broken man coming to terms with his actions. The narrative structure and visual motif of Mr. Kleg being an omnipotent spectator to his past conveys the warped perspective his illness lends his life. A well made tragedy with an impeccable performance from Ralph Fiennes.

I love intelligent stupidity in my popcorn action flicks, MM. Really looking forward to that.
It's big, loud and dumb but it knows how to play it all out and to set such crazy things up so well as this movie does... You need some kind of intelligence. Though that term is probably not associated with this franchise much.

But then again... 8 movies soon to be 10. You don't get that far, earning that much money and surprisingly positive reviews from critics almost every time, by being dumb stupid flicks. There is brains behind this mindless entertainment.

Yeah that was one of the probably failed shots at describing how this franchise feels.

I need something like this after my movie choices this weekend that sort of got me a lil bit down when I was in such a happy holiday mood. I over did the heavy dramas.
As a long time follower and fan of this franchise it worked great. Don't know how it will be if you haven't followed anything. It does kind of hold itself in past films but can still be enjoyed going in blind. Personally I would recommend watching the last 3-4 movies though at least but that's just me. You could still have a good time though.
