My Favorite Bill Murray Performances

Tools

His performance in Lost in Translation really wasnt anywhere near his best one. Murray was so disillusioned with Sofia Coppolla he tried to get her fired even. IMO Groundhog Day was his best performance. What emotion didnt he show in that movie? It was a role that could have ended a lesser talented actors career it was so demanding, and he owned it.
He tried to get her fired from her own movie?

I like a lot, Brad Pitt one of them)

1.

Dr. Peter Venkman, Ghostbusters

No surprise here...a perfect comic performance that even outdid some state of the art special effects (for 1984)...funny, smart, and yes, I'll say it...unbelievable sexy. I think this performance was also near the top of my Oscar-worthy comedy performances too.

Hope you enjoyed the list.
Completely agree with your #1 pick!

Fun list Gideon!

His performance in What About Bob? would be my #2 followed by Groundhog Day at #3 and Ghostbusters at #4. One that would have made my top ten which wasn't included here was his performance in The Man Who Knew Too Little, that movie is really stupid but Bill is great in it.

Never seen The Man Who Knew Too Little. You didn't say what your # 1 would have been, Camo.

I have to return some videotapes...
I like this list, although Lost in Translation is way too low and being under Space Jam is a little absurd. A couple films I would have on my list are St. Vincent, Man Who Knew Too Little, and Royal Tenenbaums more so than the other Anderson films on your list. The man has had a great career and I feel like his turn to drama in the past years was a great way to reinvigorate his career.

I expected flack about Lost in Translation being too low, but like I said, I hated the movie, which affected my rating. I actually thought about watchingSt. Vincent before completing this list, but I had already put it off a few days to watch Zombieland, The Razor's Edge, and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou.

I'd give her a HA! and a HI-YA! Then I'd kick her.
I never realized how many Bill Murray movies I haven't seen. Of the movies that I've seen, Ghostbusters would definitely be #1, followed by Groundhog Day at #2.

His performance in Lost in Translation really wasnt anywhere near his best one.
Thanks for saying this Tongo, I loved the performance but I didn't think it was his best either, but I knew when I started this list, I was going to get mad complaints about Lost in Translation not being #1.

Bill Murray has done so many great films and roles - but one that sticks in my mind is the first scene of Ghostbusters when he's testing some bimbo's psychic abilities - it's just hilarious.

Groundhog Day is a masterpiece and Murray rules!!!

I love that opening scene in Ghostbusters too...that blonde was played by Jennifer Runyon, who played Cindy Brady in A Very Brady Christmas.
