Aileen Wuornos: The Selling of a Serial Killer (1992)

+

I haven't seen Monster and I was in a fog when this was news, so this was my first look at this case. It makes great theater and I wouldn't expect anything less out of Florida. The main story is interesting enough, but then you've got Aileen lashing out at judges, "may your wife and children get raped in the ass", she's got a deadhead attorney, and then a wacko lady who adopts her. Aileen claims that out of the seven men she killed, two raped her and the other five attempted to. I believe her. The problem is that she continued to put herself into bad situations that resulted in death, without ever contacting authorities as a victim would. I can't go to a bad neighborhood at 2am every night, sit on a stoop, flash some cash, and blow people away who try to mug me over and over again. I don't believe she was a serial killer; I think she was more of a vigilante. Maybe those can be the same thing, I don't know, but I did have sympathy for her. It's just too bad that this girl ended up on the path that she did. This documentary has a lower production value, but I think it suited the case very well. I was only going to watch one Aileen Wournos documentary with the time I have left before lists are due, but I'm thirsty for another one. I'm being conservative with my rating because this is not an original, creative movie, but I loved it.

There are a few youtube documentaries with her that's much better than the movie!

Madness is the emergency exit…
Crimson Peak (2015)

In some reviews people were mumbling about "this is more of a Gothic romance than horror"...f**k you shitheads! It's a pretty decent psychologically twisted thriller with a very fair amount of horror elements and obviously a gorgeous set up. I loved it; yeah...not Del Toro's best but found the story simple and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Only two things were missing, IMO....the great Vincent Price & a Xenomorph!

I have to return some videotapes.

Shrek

This movie never gets old. It's a part of my childhood, and it still holds up today. The adult humor is great in it along with the kid adventure. Highly recommended and if I were to make a top 100, it'd probably be on it.

The Hangover (2009) - Todd Phillips

- This movie is totally hilarious and it's one of my favorite comedy of the 2000's. Every actor and every character are highly enjoyable to watch and the storyline is so awesome that it make the movie highly entertaining. I love many scenes and I cry laughing at one time in the movie. One of the best rewatch in recent memories.
I love The Hangover! Glad you enjoyed your rewatch, Derek. I know I enjoy mine lol.

Sorry if I'm rude but I'm right
Why didn't you rate Happy People: A Year in the Taiga?

I don't rate shorts and I might not rate documentaries either. Always time to change it. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Probably the best documentary I've ever seen. Very interested in Herzog's others.

Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer (2003)

Basically a sequel to an Aileen Wournos documentary that I watched yesterday, this one focuses on about 10 years later when she's at the end of the line. More of the same, still riveting, especially her final interview before meeting "old sparky". Despite the moderate production value, I really appreciate the work of the director.

Home Alone

Overall...this is gonna be hard to say...

So, I've watched this movie quite some times when I was younger and I had always enjoyed it. Now, I get pissed off easily and barely smile when I watch it because of the STUPIDITY of both wet bandits and the fast transition from extremely-immature to mature Kevin went through in such little time.

When you watch the...hem..."funny" part, which is when the wet bandits get the sh*t beaten out of them, one can easily wonder: how is it that they hadn't got caught before that. I understand that for kids it may be funny, but it is completely unrealistic in its "death traps" with both bandits being dead with half the traps.

Macaulay Culkin is really dumb in this movie and is really NOT a good example in a "kids' movie". He reads porn, threatens people, wastes money, eat all the supplies and then gives an "inspiring speech" to an old man. Was that speech supposed to makes us...think he's a good kid? I mean...damn, the kid's an a**hole.

I did NOT enjoy the movie now that I'm grown up and still think that the 2nd one makes more sense. You say what you want guys, I give it a

I know I'm late to the party with this, but I recently watched Ridley Scott's Prometheus for the first time. I'm kind of conflicted. I think ultimately, though, it gets a 6/10.

As I was watching the movie, I wanted so badly to enjoy it, and I even did for the most part. But there were just so many elements to it that really detracted from the story. I've heard there was a lot of studio interference, and as a result the final product was a jumbled, confused mess.

I really hope the upcoming films can set the Alien franchise back on track.

Rewatch. This thing never gets old. The Cornetto Trilogy is one of my favorite Trilogies ever. I cannot wait to see what Wright, Frost, and Pegg do together next (They've stated they are planning ANOTHER trilogy). And people have actually tried to say Franco and Rogen are a better comedy duo. HA.

I've never understood what people saw in Home Alone. The movie isn't funny, Macaulay Culkin isn't a good actor, and he wasn't even a cute kid.

Yes, the fiction films about the serial killers are often bad except Henry : Portrait Of A Serial Killer. Monster is not the worst.
I'd love to see a good film on Ted Bundy.

Monster is a good film. Also, cricket wasn't watching Monster. He was watching the Broomfield documentary.

Home Alone is still good fun. I went to see it on Saturday and I enjoyed it. In fact, I think I might've enjoyed it more than I have for a good few years now.

Harry and Tonto (Director Commentary) - 10/10

It was bittersweet watching this. I can't explore this film any further, but it was nice of Paul Mazursky to talk about it. Learned a couple of things, I'd recommend it. It's crazy that the word "****" made it Rated-R, which could account for some lost business, but in the DVD, they dub in "bitch" instead anyway. I was a little surprised this movie only cost $940,000 considering the amazing cast - Art Carney, Ellen Burstyn, Larry Hagman, Geraldine Fitzgerald. The only wish I had for this picture is for more to watch it. It's my favorite and to me it's perfect.

My Winnipeg (2007)

This movie is a very good example of why I hate rating documentaries. In the beginning, I thought it was going to put me to sleep, but by the end, I was thinking this is probably a grand film. I don't think I was prepared for it at all. A guy looks back at growing up in Winnipeg through narration and reenactment. That's about it, but it's how it's presented that makes it unique. I almost question if this is actually a documentary with some of the fantastical elements, but then I'm not certain as to what qualities a film needs to be labeled as such. It's unique, haunting, and surprisingly funny.

Finished here. It's been fun.

We Won't Grow Old Together
-

The gradual decay of a relationship between a horrible man and a young woman with low self-esteem. Beautifully shot and colorful. The colors progressively get darker as the partnership slowly deteriorates.

The Ordet reference made me smile.
