When I was a kid (early 80's) we had a version of that called Dungeon. Good game - basically the predecessor for Talisman.


There's a scene in Stranger Things where the feds are taking the kids' stuff out of their house to look for evidence of Eleven and there's a Dungeon game in one of the boxes they confiscate.
