One of the biggest surprises to me was The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and I had it at #7.
It's just my type of humor and the stop-motion animation was so well done, even if that was actually what put me off at first. I adore stop-motion, but has never been a fan of claymation. I knew how wrong I was after I watched this. Glad to see it make the list and fairly high as well...

As I'm sure many of you know by now, Charlotte's Web is a big childhood favorite of mine. I voted for it at number 10.
I grew up with both the film and the book and the story has been more influential in my life than E.B. White and the film's creators probably ever imagined or intended their story to be. Sure, I got the message about the real meaning of friendship but the main thing I took away from the story was a love of rats.
From the first time I saw the film to the most recent time (which was yesterday), I've been drawn to that sarcastic, self-centered, hilarious rodent named Templeton, brought to life by a fantastic voice performance from Paul Lynde. If I had to come up with a list of favorite animated characters, Templeton would be number one. There are other animated films that I hold in higher esteem than Charlotte's Web, but none of them contain any characters that are so perfectly suited to my personality.
Oh and, once again, a big thank you to JayDee for the gif. The only suitable existing gif I could find was of Charlotte and that just won't do. Actually JayDee made me a collection of them, so in celebration of Templeton, here are a few more:

Although I love Wallace & Gromitt, I haven't seen Curse of the Were-Rabbit. I should fix this.
Charlotte's Web is a fun movie, although I don't think a great one. I'm with Miss Vicky, though, that Templeton's the best part of the film.

I had Curse of the Were-Rabbit at #14, and like MovieMeditation says, it's my type of humor.
And although Charlotte's Web wasn't on my list, thanks, Miss Vicky for posting the clips of my favorite scene and character, Templeton. Rarely has a voice and an animated character come together so well. :) His "pig-out" scene is aces.

Wow, Charlotte's Web made it higher than I thought it would. Cool.
I'm just sneaking in here, so I don't have time to express all the ways that Charlotte's Web is such a wonderful movie but I'll mention a couple of things. I literally can't remember not knowing Charlotte, Wilbur, Templeton and all the rest of the barnyard gang. I grew up watching the movie and I don't know how many copies of the book I've gone through.
My dad even called me Fern as a child because I was always out with the animals and have always had a strong relationship with them. And yes, I used to listen outside the barn hoping they would start talking to each other.
It's one of the best stories of friendship ever told.

And there's the reason MV wanted me to submit a list so badly. I had Charlotte's Web at #2, I think I first saw it at school when I was about 10 or 11. We used to have kids films projected in the main hall on a Saturday morning a few times a year. I think the tickets were 50p or something. I probably saw as many kids films at school as I did at home. :D
I've not seen the animated version for a long time, but I think I prefer the newer one. But that one wasn't eligible.

Though I ultimately did not vote for it, Tale of Tales was one of the films I had in mind when I pushed for the inclusion of shorts in this countdown. It's really unique and beautiful.
It's available on YouTube (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=t-Xne3FztR0) and is only about 30 minutes long, so if you've got an extra half hour to spare and haven't seen it, give it a try.
Duck Amuck is excellent as well and I vaguely recall liking Sleeping Beauty, but neither of them got my vote. I haven't seen Castle in the Sky.
Just A Reminder: There will be no new entries posted in the countdown until Friday. I hope everyone has a merry Christmas!

Castle in the Sky is my #2. I think it's the best Miyazaki and one of my favorite movie of all time. It's beautiful, simple, has a very subtle, but eficiet environmental message and also some action. Beautiful masterpiece.

I like Castle in the Sky, but don't love it. It didn't have the same impact on me as some of Miyazaki's other films. It's a fun adventure with a few magical scenes in it, but overall it didn't truly leave any significant impression on me.
Duck Amuck is one of those incredibly creative animated shorts from The Looney Tunes. It's great and I love it (the final twist is one of the best in Looney Tunes history)!
Sleeping Beauty used to be my favorite film when I was a kid and I still consider it as a special film for me personally. I had it as my number 6. I also gave it a spot in my Top 101 list. This is what I wrote about it:
Sleeping Beauty (1959)
http://www.louisvillehalloween.com/wp-content/gallery/grim2014-1-09-14/maleficent-sleeping-beauty-dragon.jpg
Some people may be frowning right now, but yes, you're seeing it right. This old Disney classic made my list. Again, this is of course one of those very personal entries, as this film is my childhood favorite.
After watching it again a few months ago, I couldn't help falling in love with it all over again, though. I dare saying it out loud: this is one of the most magical films ever made.
The main reason why I love this film so much is probably its incredible atmosphere. Just look at the scene where the three fairies are granting their wishes in one of the opening scenes and you'll know what I mean. The film hypnotizes its small (and adult) viewers with a rich palette of colors and with the very inventive use of the famous Tchaikovsky ballet.
As a child I could watch this film over and over again and honestly, I still can. The mood of this film has such a strangely intoxicating effect on me that I can't possibly walk away from it once I start watching.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zuWGgqDKugI
How to create a mysteriousy macabre atmosphere...
Apart from that engaging mood, this film also has the most memorable Disney villain of all time and simply THE best classic fairytale climax of the complete Disney gamma. Also, notice how little this film depends on dialogue. It's all about visual extravaganza.
This is one of Disney's finest animated films and possibly my personal favorite of them all. Sleeping Beauty is one of the most captivating and perfectly executed reproductions of a classic fairytale ever adapted to screen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmM-XX8atlQ
As I said, THE best cinematic fairytale climax of all time!

Now we are talking! Two of the latest entries have made my list.
I had Charlotte's Web at 18. It is a film that I believe I had seen as a child, yet I could not truly remember much about it (I think I was very very young). Upon finally watching it again this year I was able to recollect what was so great about the film. It's truly one of the best films about friendship ever really. What draws me to it is the fondness of the characters, Wilbur, Charlotte, and Templeton among the others. It also has some truly emotional scenes that make it far from being just a kids movie to being a film with a lot of deep meaning to it. The ending in particular is something that was so beautifully drawn up. It's a great film.
http://img2-2.timeinc.net/ew/i/2012/07/25/charlottes-web.jpg
I had Castle in the Sky at 22. It's a visually stunning film and I believe as time goes by I could truly see Miyazaki being one of my favorite directors. Laputa was a very interesting character in my opinion and there are plenty of magical scenes in this film for me. It's a film that I imagine being able to go back to plenty times and never grow tired of it.
https://ladygeekgirl.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/castle-in-the-sky.jpg
I remember Sleeping Beauty being a good film, but I probably haven't seen it since the nineties.
Rauldc14's List
10. Brave Little Toaster - Near Miss
18. Charlotte's Web
19. Shrek 2
22. Castle in the Sky
I had Castle at #6. Not my favorite Miyazaki film but it's pretty close. I vaguely remember seeing Sleeping Beauty as a kid but I doubt I'd like it much now since I'm not much of a Walt Disney fan. Never seen Tale of Tales but it looks pretty interesting. Oh, and merry Christmas everyone!
Those are four great films, and they showcase why this is really a great list - none of them made the top 50!
I'll admit that I only voted for Duck Amuck, at #13, but they're all worthy. The Chuck Jones short is similar in ways to Buster Keaton's Sherlock, Jr in that Daffy Duck is left to the whims of his medium and, I'd say, sadistic animator. It just keeps getting crazier and crazier, and then when you think it's over, it gets better!
Sleeping Beauty was a lock for my list until I actually started whittling it down to 25, and I ran out of room, but it was the first film animated in 70MM, has a terrific medieval look and the finale is scary and action-packed. Castle in the Sky is a rip-roaring adventure that got left off perhaps because I'd seen another action/adventure by Miyazaki more recently that I placed above it. Tale of Tales is the kind of lyrical animation that you really can't understand why, but it burrows into your subconscious like a shared memory of civilizations long ago. In other words, it's a very humanistic work of art that makes you feel peaceful and akin to the rest of the world - maybe even your detestable person of the week!

I had planned on watching Tale of Tales but completely forgot about it. I will definitely still watch it.

Too many average animated films on this list tbh. But then again, we are not even in Top 50. Still it bothers me when some commercial popcorn flicks gets a higher place than some really thoughtful and unique ones.
Because the unique ones are more obscure so almost nobody watched those. Like every single Pixar movie will make the top 50 for example as everybody has watched all of these.
But for instance When the Wind Blows which was a movie I watched because it as here (and because I wanted to watch it for years) is an excellent film and I could put it into my top 100 animations list.
Anyways, a Top 100 is quite a lot and most people who are not a fan of animation will most likely put commercial movies high as that is what they have seen.
Well, I would only consider a true fan of animation someone who has watched the 110 episodes of Legend of Galactic Heroes. I am probably the only person here who has watched it though (considering Zotis, Jal90 and Pussy haven't).
I'm not too mad though, my nr. 1 is a commercial movie though well respected (and to me, amazing). :p
Though thing is that you also exclude the relatively obscure stuff that shows up mixed with the mainstream mediocre ones like the Madoka film (which is well known to anime fans though) and When the Wind Blows. Overall a lot of others excellent films already showed up such as Garden of Words, Castle in the Sky, Wind Rises, Millennium Actress and Tale of Tales.

My ratings:
62. Yellow Submarine I am planning to watch this one for years now. Miyazaki said it was great, one of the top 3 best British animations.
61. Despicable Me
60. The Illusionist 4_5 + In my top 100 truly great animated film.
59. The Jungle Book
58. Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit I watched several Wallace & Gromit stuff, this one tohugh I don't remember watching.
57. Charlotte's Web
56. Castle in the Sky 5 ++ One of the top 10 best animated films ever made. Truly powerful experience that evokes the feeling of childlike wonder like nothing else. It's extremely elegant film and has a powerful poignant atmosphere. In Japan it was rated as one of their top 30 movies ever made, it's indeed a classic.
55. Duck Amuck
54. Sleeping Beauty
53. Tale Of Tales 4_5 + Norstein's most interesting film, one of my top 5 animated shorts.
There is a lot on this list, that i havent seen and / or do not care for.
I really hope that some of Yuriy Norshteyn's and Jan Svankmajer's films will show up, but im getting kind of worried.
Norstein's Tale of Tales showed up. Great film. I am worried that Petrov's The Old Man and the Sea wouldn't show up which is my favorite Eastern European animation. I think that Jan Svankmajer is overrated. His shorts are cute but artistically they are not very impressive if compared to Petrov, Back and Norstein. While Japan dominates dialogue driven animation most of the great shorts I know are western. Though I prefer dialogue driven stuff.
If you like artistic animation I think you would like stuff like Yuasa's work like Kaiba, Tatami Galaxy and Ping Pong, Yoshitoshi ABe worked on like Lain, Texhnolyxe and Haibane Renmei as well as Ikuhara's work like Mawaru Penguindrum and Utena which has a TV series a great 90 minutes movie.
Most great anime consists of late night TV shows or OVA's as a result they are not eligible to nomination here. Most great anime films are Ghibli's films which most will probably make it. Though I am worried about stuff like Only Yesterday and The Castle of Gagliostro.
I think you have to like The Beetles music to enjoy The Yellow Submarine. I don't like their music and I found the movie to be a chore to get through. Quality wise I find no fault in it.

Sleeping Beauty was my #2... so that means I gave it the most points. Followed by Gunslinger and Cobpyth.
Frankly, I'm surprised it's showed up already. I find that very disappointing. If this was Rodent's Comic Book Movies list, it would be discarded and tossed aside. I actually fear for the rest of the list now since Sleeping Beauty is already here. Yet at the same time, I'm also a little surprised at how others really love it. It's gotta be Miss Vic..err..Maleficent. She was a marvelous witch bitch.
It's been awhile since I've seen it... but I saw it lots and lots of times in the distant past. I can't quite remember everything about the ending -- doesn't the prince fight off Maleficent in front of her castle where she turns into a bunch of deadly vines and weeds and things? Some of you are saying that's the best part, but I actually always didn't care much for the ending. I remember her chaining up the prince in her dungeon -- that was okay. But that weed fight was ... ehhh.
I always liked when the different colored fairies (not talking about African American homosexuals) fought over what color that dress should be when they're in that little house, baking a cake and sewing and such. Also -- the spindle (spinning wheel) scene. Very creepy. Like a horror film. I used to want my own spinning wheel when I was a kid because of that -- so I could touch it and awake only when Jake Gyllenhaal came. And I also like the scene at the beginning when Maleficent first arrives and puts a Sexy Curse on Aurora, or whatever her name was.
Oh, Maleficent turns into a dragon at the end. I forgot about that.

Castle in the Sky I really liked and had it at #19. One of the simpler yet maybe more powerful Mayazaki films. Not too much mystical magical mishmash in this one, just pure adventurous fun! Music is great as expected by JH, and the animation and overall feel of it was what ultimately made it land on my list.
Duck Amuck was actually the only short film I ever thought about including, I think. Great inventive fun! But honestly we should've done animated shorts as a separate list. I really felt like it was hard to put, let's say, an 8 minute short film up agains something that lasts 90 minutes. It's just harder for a short film to get everything said in a short period of time... But I'm glad it made it and I'm sure more will come that I've also seen and glad that they made it!
Sleeping Beauty was my #25 but honestly, it could've been higher. One of the main reasons why I put it on my list and why I love and respect it, is its BEAUTIFUL 70mm picture. First animated film like that, and holy mother of God they used it well. The unique "edged and squary" looking style that they went for, works so damn well. And beautiful use of color too. A great and greatly underrated Disney film.
I had Tale of Tales as number 4, i had hoped it would break the top 50, but i guess its underseen. I saw it earlier this year together with some friends and i find it a really striking piace of animation. Unfortunately this will probably mean that we wont see Hedgehog in the Fog (1975) and The Heron and the Crane (1974) on this list, which i had rather high on my list :(

Miss Vickyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Given the choice between the two of you,
I'd take the seasick crocodile.
You're a foul one... Miss Vicky.
You're a nasty wasty skunk!
Your heart is full of unwashed socks.
Your soul is full of gunk,
Miss Vickyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
The three best words that best describe you,
Are as follows, and I quote:
Stink!
Stank!
Stunk!
Skank!
(okay, that's four words, but I had to throw that last one in there)
You're a rotter... Miss Vicky.
You're the king (queen?) of sinful sots.
Your heart's a dead tomato squashed with moldy purple spots
Miss Vickyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Your soul is an appalling dump heap
Overflowing with the most disgraceful
Assortment of deplorable rubbish imaginable,
Mangled up in tangled up knots.
You nauseate me... Miss Vicky.
With a nauseous super nos
You're a crooked jerky jockey and,
You drive a crooked horse
Miss Vickyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
You're a three-decker sauerkraut
And toadstool sandwich,
With arsenic sauce!
Miss Vickyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

I was afraid The Simpsons movie would make it. I like The Simpsons well enough, but in honesty the movie is not very good.
Chicken Run I haven't seen in ages but didn't care for it either.
Woohoo!

First off, no fewer than six MoFos have written reviews of The Simpsons Movie (
http://www.movieforums.com/reviews/search/any/higher/35/any), myself included. I had it 7th, because it's one of the funniest flippin' movies I've ever seen. I was so pleased with it, and I've watched it several times since. It really brought back the confidence and verve it had in its heyday (though I say that as someone who isn't on board the "it's not good anymore" train to begin with). Anyway, here's my review from when it came out (http://www.movieforums.com/reviews/1081594-the-simpsons-movie.html):
They nailed it.
Fans of The Simpsons have been hearing rumors of a movie based on the series since the mid-90s. But with each passing season the importance of doing the series justice grew, and the film spent the better part of a decade in development hell. After almost fifteen years of rumors and false starts, Matt Groening and ten other writers have produced a film worthy of the franchise.
The story -- which, as any Simpsons fan knows, is not especially important -- concerns the growing pollution in Lake Springfield. Homer pushes it past the point of no return with a silo full of pig excrement.
Enter the Environmental Protection Agency, whose funding has apparently quadrupled somewhere between the real world and the film's story. Their solution is to cover all of Springfield in a giant plastic dome. It goes without saying that the town quickly devolves into chaos, and that its inhabitants are none too happy with Homer.
Though plotlines on The Simpsons are never anything more than a framework for the jokes, the film's story holds together nicely. It is equal parts absurd and epic, and allows for a number of elegant cameos and references to the series' more memorable moments. It will make perfect sense to someone new to the universe, but still has plenty of visual easter eggs for the devout Simpsonsite to enjoy.
The voice acting is predictably brilliant, and the animation manages to look crisper and fuller than usual without losing any of its crude charm.
The most striking thing about The Simpsons Movie, however, is how edgy it is compared to the series. Freed from the constraints of network television, Groening and Co. use the bit of extra leeway that a PG-13 rating provides to push the envelope further than they have in years. Everything about the production oozes confidence. The jokes are more biting, and the satire is more fearless.
Fans can be forgiven for feeling that The Simpsons has dulled a bit over the last few seasons. When the show premiered, it was smarter and more irreverent than anything else on television. These days, the emergence of quasi-knockoffs such as Family Guy have diluted our sensitivities to crazed antics by placing a higher premium on edginess than comedy--they're all edge and no point.
The Simpsons Movie, however, walks that delicate line between absurdity and stupidity which has always been the hallmark of the franchise, and proves that there's still no replicating its unique brand of comedy.
As smart as it is ridiculous, The Simpsons Movie was a long time in the making, but well worth the wait. One of the best television shows in history has become one of the best comedies of 2007.

I thought The Simpsons movie was good, but not good enough to even consider for my ballot.
I adore Chicken Run. I remember I was still in my anti-animation phase, but a friend wanted to see this and I ended up going to the theater to see it. I loved it immediately and soon after started to open my mind back up to the idea that animation isn't just for little kids. I had it at #9.

I enjoyed Chicken Run but prefer The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and eventually voted for the latter... The Simpsons Movie I almost voted for and could've made my list, honestly, but in the end I just didn't know where to put it. Glad it made it though!

Haven't seen The Simpsons Movie (nor have I watched more than a handful of episodes since ca. 2000). Chicken Run is okay. Jungle book and Castle in the Sky are good but not enough to make my list apparently. I voted for Duck Amuck, Were-Rabbit and Tale of Tales (which I haven't seen in about 10 years, but still remember very fondly; don't expect my higher Norstein pick to make it at all). Haven't Seen Sleeping Beauty or Yellow Sub. in forever.

I had Chicken Run at #12. It is hilarious, charming and the animation is perfect for the subject matter. Julia Sawalha and Lynn Ferguson (Ginger and Mac) provide the perfect voice work for their chickens.
I love this style of animation. It was because of this movie that I so looked forward to The Pirates! but ended up being disappointed. That's alright because I can watch Chicken Run over and over. It's goofy and funny but with just the right amount of heart.
Chickens really are funny creatures but Scottish chickens are freakin' hilarious.

I had The Simpsons Movie at #12, yay. I don't know what they did to the animation in the movie but it looked so much better than the TV show.
Not a fan of The Simpsons Movie, but Chicken Run is alot of fun.
I had Alegro Non Troppo - Bolero at 16. When it was time to start watching films for the countdown, ANT was one of the first on my list mainly because Mark F had talked about it quite alot. I wasn't dissapointed, such a beautiful, fun movie another major plus was that the music was excellent something of a rarity in Animated movies for me. If it was eligible as a full movie it would've easily made my top 10.
Duck Amuck was my number 11. A list without Looney Tunes wasn't a possibility for me, it's one of the few massive parts of my childhood that i can and do happily watch as an adult. Overall i was considering eight for my list and settled for three. Duck Amuck features the best Looney Tune Daffy Duck, at his best it's difficult to say to much about a 7 minute cartoon without ruining it so i'll just say it's a very fun and creative short. Chuck Jones was a legend  .
Watership Down was the other of mine to appear i had it at 22. Not sure about other countries, but Watership Down is one of the movies thats always on at christmas. It really was a massive part of my childhood, so much that i actually think i had it too low. In all honesty though i haven't watched it in a good 3 or 4 years.
The Curse of the Wererabbit and Paprika were the other two that nearly made my list. I did include all of the other Wallace and Gromits that i prefer.
Seen - 34/50
List - 3/25

Well, we're halfway through the countdown. I gotta say, this has been a lot more fun for me than I expected it to be, but it has also involved a great deal of work and frustration. I think the end result of the list is a good and interesting mix of the popular and the obscure. I hope the rest of you will agree once the list is fully revealed.
Here's what has appeared from my own ballot so far:
6. Surf's Up (#99)
8. Over the Hedge (Near Miss)
9. Chicken Run (#51)
10. Charlotte's Web (#57)
11. Despicable Me (#61)

Guaporense

Based on IMDB ratings and on previous performances of films in the decade pools I would guess something like this:
1. Up
2. Wall E
3. Ratatouille
4. Princess Mononoke (being the highest ranked foreign language film of all time in any poll here!)
5. Toy Story
6. The Lion King
7. Spirited Away
8. Grave of the Fireflies
9. Toy Story 3
10. Toy Story 2
Though Castle in the Sky would be top 15 by the same IMDB ratings but it is a little less well known film. Still it made the top 80 on the 1980's list, higher than many Pixar films did on those top of the decade lists though this is the effect of not being well known: in the top decades lists everybody cited only movies they loved, here many people didn't know many animated films so filed up with the top 25's with the most popular ones.
I guess nearly all Pixar films will be in the top 20 due to their popularity, except the truly awful ones which will be top 50 certainly (Cars 2 will show up probably over the next 20 entries, Brave as well). Overall I think I can guess like 45 of the next 50, including movies like:
Finding Nemo
South Park: The Movie
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Akira
Nausicaa
Ghost in the Shell (this one might not even make it even though I though it was an extremely popular film)
Only Yesterday (I still have hope for this one, so that all my own top 10 animated films on my top 100 makes the list!)
Whisper of the Heart
Howl's Moving Castle
maybe another Satoshi Kon film (Perfect Blue)
Porco Rosso
Beauty and the Beast
Monster's Inc.
Monster's University
Wreck it Ralph
Frozen
Tangled
Bambi
Alice in the Wonderland
Snow White
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The Movie 2nd A's (obviously :D)
Pinnochio
Fantasia
Dumbo
The Incredibles
Cars
Cars 2
Brave
Shrek
Pocahontas
Little Mermaid
How to Train Your Dragon
The Wrong Trousers
The Man Who Planted Trees
The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Fantastic Mister Fox
The Land Before Time (not so sure about this one)
maybe some Scooby Doo movie (lol)
Ok, that's 48 movies that I guess will show up over the next 50 entries (Nanoha I think will be a good one to nominate for the next hall of fame or maybe not :D, Scooby Doo was a joke). Pretty much every major Disney animated feature will make the list, every Pixar film and every Miyazaki film.

- Grave of the Fireflies
- My Neighbor Totoro
- Akira
- Castle in the Sky (shame to see it show up so low here)
1990's
- Princess Mononoke
- Lion King
- Whisper of the Heart
- Beauty and the Beast
2000's
- Up
- Wall-E
- Spirited Away
- Ratatouille

First of all as always amazing jobs on the GIFs... it looks like it took quite some time.
Bambi was 22nd on my list. A heart-warming sweet classic that also dangerously makes me want to quit repetitive and boring city life.
Dumbo wasn't even considered for my list as it totally failed to deliver what Bambi did.

I wasn't able to find existing gifs for all of the movies in the countdown, so some of them (Bolero, Animal Farm, The Plague Dogs) I made and a couple of them (When the Wind Blows, Charlotte's Web) were made by JayDee, but the rest were stolen from the internet.
Wow the internet is a better place than I thought lol
I'm pretty sure she still has to edit the numbers into them, though, which is still pretty cool.

All of the number images I made myself, but the actual moving gifs for the stats are mostly stolen from the web.
I had Dumbo at #2! Here's why from my Top 100.
Dumbo (Ben Sharpsteen, 1941)
http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kxn1jo9w081qaxtf0o1_500.jpg
It was a major mistake that I left this one off my list initially, but you know me. I have to try to rile up people. I want to talk about Dumbo, the movie. I don't really want to talk about ignorant people's perceptions of racism, so I'm saving that for later. See what I said about me being the "Rile-Up King"?
The first time I watched Dumbo, I thought it was cute. It didn't really register on my psyche as anything very significant; it was just some kids' movie which was over in about an hour and was sorta painless and inconsequential. Boy, was I completely dense! In 64 minutes, Dumbo tells a story of tolerance and belief in doing what you are capable of doing. It teaches you to overcome prejudices while trying to stay tight with family. It also teaches you to sometimes trust strangers because they might turn out to be your best friends, especially if your own kind reject you. At least, that's all there in the film, if you can appreciate it in between crying, laughing and smiling so much.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=calHOKucYMw
This is one of the more memorable tearjerker scenes in fim history. Several of the elephants made fun of Dumbo's big ears, causing his mother to rip up the joint and try to put them in their place. Subsequently, she was labeled as a "mad elephnat" and imprisoned. It's still often true that the individual who rebels against tyranny and prejudice is often identified as the trouble maker and forced to pay for others' sins.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=RoysQe-2HS4
Dumbo was part of the heyday of Disney's animated output. In the span of three years (1940-1942), Disney's animators produced four films which were released, and all four are classics. The lone financial bomb was Fantasia. The public ate up Pinocchio, Dumbo and Bambi. I personally love Pinocchio at least as much as Dumbo, especially for the simplicity of how the former film explains the spiritual concepts of free will and resurrection, but I'll save that for a later post. Dumbo should be a must-see and a Hall-of-Fame flick even if it only contained the Pink Elephants sequence. Timothy the Mouse and Dumbo both drink water spiked with champagne which the clowns tossed into a tub. After they "wake up", they see this... perhaps the five best minutes of any Disney movie
Found a partial scene.:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_v2exWrsGOc
The next scene is often considered the most racist in the film. The crows are spoken by African Americans, and they sing and jive just like you might expect from a 1940s jive-era movie. At the end of the "Pink Elephants" scene, both Dumbo and Timothy are up in the trees, but these "streetwise" crows don't buy it. It's sorta funny they can accept an elephant in a tree but cannot consider that maybe he got up there on his own power. It's too bad they don't have the continuation scene where the crows don't make fun of Dumbo but actually encourage him to try to be "all that he can be". The crows are true heroes in the movie, and they're certainly not treated like second-class citizens. I'll also verify that Dumbo and his mom love the honest crows at the end much more than the sycophantic "white" elephants, at least if you HAVE to play the race card to watch this lovely film. The final scenes of Dumbo are actually my fave, which is saying a lot. It may have the Happiest Ending Ever.

Love Dumbo and especially Bambi, but voted for neither since I haven't seen them in so long. That seems unfair, but I'm almost afraid to rewatch some childhood favorites with the thought that they can't live up to my memories.

Dumbo was the first film I ever cried at. I remember it clearly.
I'd seen it a couple times as a very young kid and some of the themes throughout were obviously something I didn't understand as I was so young... I loved the whole film tbh, found it funny and colourful and had some sad scenes when he gets picked on and stuff...
... but around the age of maybe 3 or 4, I realised the significance of the scene where he visits his Mother and can only touch her trunk, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. I ran to my Mum and she cuddled me while I bawled my head off :D
I keep saying I'm not a fan of animation, but Dumbo is a very special film for me. I still get a lump in my throat at that scene when Baby Mine starts playing.
Two Movies i really need to rewatch to acurately say how i feel about them. As a kid when i used to always watch Animated films, i remember not really liking Bambi and loving Dumbo, but who knows if that would still be the case.

Both of these wonderful classics could've made my list, but it's simply been too long since I've seen them and that's why I ultimately didn't include them. I should definitely rewatch both films some time in the near future, as they are both fantastic films.
Both are beautiful, heartwarming stories that have an edge of sadness and sorrow to them that still resonates today.
Bambi is notable because of its great use of its natural environment to enhance the emotions of the story. The film has to use visual storytelling of course, because it doesn't depend that much on dialogue, which makes it a very stimulating film to look at.
When Bambi's mother gets shot, it's winter. It starts snowing and it's cold and dark...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eHr-9_6hCg
Notice how it only starts snowing when he starts realizing he lost his mom.
-------------------------
Dumbo doesn't have a whole forest to transmit the emotions of its story through and therefore focuses more on intimacy during its strongest emotional moments. A great example is of course the Baby of Mine scene. It's night (always a more intimate time than day) and Dumbo meets his mother again. All we see is shots of mothers and their children sleeping on the tones of a dreamy song. It's simple, but effective.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CORf1liT9cE
Another example is of course the pink elephant scene. This time, the film's visuals get so intimate that we actually perceive the reality like Dumbo does. It's also a fantastic scene to behold. Surreal and visually inventive.
I urgently need to rewatch these two timeless classics.

Here are some statistics about the 80s, 90s, Millennium, and Animation lists that might actually mean something:
The 1980s countdown had 62 voters.
The 1990s countdown had 54 "voters," but one of those lists came from Psychic Isaac (a.k.a. Sexy Celebrity).
The Millennium countdown had 41 voters.
The Animation countdown had 79 voters.
Many of the voters in the previous countdowns aren't even around anymore, so the pool of voters for this one is considerably different than in the decade lists.
However they come from the same pool of people: everybody here is western and most are Americans/Canadians and British. So they reflect the general perception of the western people of animated feature films. Also the number of mainstream western animated films is pretty small if compared to live action ones.
I think that if we picked up 79 different people that are movie fans and westerners and made a top 100 animations the list would be mostly the same. People like me with distinct perceptions of animation become insignificant relative to the group of 79: none of my votes made any difference in any of the films who made the list.
In fact, empire movie forums had a similar top animations list and the movies that showed up were mostly the same ones as here.

The Simpsons Movie worked so incredibly well because it was basically just one extended episode of the show. That turned out to be enough to make one of the best movies of its year.
Chicken Run was alright, but really struck me as the poor man's Wallace & Gromit. I did love all of the old prison break movie references in it, though.
I saw neither Bambi nor Dumbo until very recently. In fact, both were shown to me by a girlfriend (first the one and then the other). Bambi is surprisingly moving at times, but Dumbo was never my kind of movie.

Bambi is a great film, I considered including it, Dumbo, Fantasia and Pinocchio into my top 100 animations list. While I dislike the new Disney stuff I found their old stuff to be very delicate and elegant in a way.
A big part of that is the lack of musical numbers but the biggest part of that is this guy:

"Always looking for fun, Yui is fearless; anxiety and stage fright are unknown to her. She likes everything cute and makes a lot of physical contact with others like holding hands or hugging. She also loves everything sweet (that's why Ritsu gave her the nickname "Lazy Fairy"). Yui is energized by sweets that Mugi brings, and her physical constitution is such that she does not gain weight no matter how much she eats. She can't stand being hot or cold, so she spends the winter under the kotatsu [1] and rolls around on the floor in the summer in front of the fan, to keep cool.[2] Her grades are always on the verge of failing except for fine arts, in which she is exceeding; sometimes she is the only person in her class who needs to retake a test[3], other times she manages to avoid failing all of her subjects by a one point margin. She has an average figure. Yui lives in a family of four with her younger sister Ui and both parents. Her parents are a "lovey-dovey" couple[4] and often go on trips together, leaving both daughters behind.
Having misunderstood that "light music" equals to "easy music" (like whistling), Yui joined the Light Music Club and picked up the guitar with absolutely no prior experience.[5] She cannot do more than one thing at a time, but to make up for that she can be highly focused on a particular subject and once started, can advance quite substantially. However, whenever she learns something, she forgets something else."

As to your assertion that your votes didn't make any difference, I'd say you're wrong. Individual votes made a huge difference in what made the list and where.

Yes.
Can i ask if fans of The Simpsons Movie felt it approached the quality of the first 10 Seasons? That's assuming those are the seasons everyone ranks the highest, which seems to be the case on online polls which means... nothing. Still it's something i agree with, or a better way to put it would be The Simpsons of the 90s.
I personally didn't, someone said earlier that it was an extended Simpsons episode in a positive sense but that was a negative for me. It made me laugh at times, but it came nowhere close to the show at it's peak, and it failed completely on an emotional level for me; something the first 3-4 Seasons of The Simpsons did better than any other TV Show imo.

Yeah, absolutely. Not really sure what I can say--it's particularly difficult to argue about comedy--but I found it as funny as pretty much anything they've done. Maybe not as good as a highlight reel of those 10 seasons, but then, expecting that from a single movie would be asking for a lot. I thought it was as funny as four or five 80th-90th percentile episodes strung together, witch a much greater degree of difficulty given that they had to do that over one coherent narrative.

Thanks for the response, mainly your last sentence that gave me a good idea of how well you thought of it compared to the best episodes. Your spot on about arguing about comedy, either i found it funny or i didn't and noone could change that, which is of course the difference with more serious films because you could possibly shed a different light on it from what you took away from it.
Again comparing individual episodes to a full movie is impossible, while i preferred it to the seasons at the time it was made; i still found it alot weaker than even most average episodes during the shows peak S1-10.
Didn't send in a list because I haven't seen many animated films (can't even recall one really) but just wanted to commend Miss Vicky on a very well designed thread.

I love Dumbo, but it wasn't heavily considered for my list because there are better Disney movies, and I didn't want to have 3/4 of my list filled with Disney movies, so I cut many of my favorite Disney movies.
I really struggled with whether or not to include Bambi on my list because I love the movie, and Thumper is one of my all-time favorite characters, but ultimately it didn't make my list simply because there are just way too many Disney movies that I love, and I had to draw the line on Disney films somewhere.
I'm very happy to see that both of these movies made the list without my help, and I hope there are several more Disney movies coming up on the list too.

Dumbo - I found this really upsetting as a child and have not watched it since. All the images and gifs are making me think I should give it another watch, though.
Bambi - Far too cutesy and saccharine in its depiction of forest creatures, not a favourite.
Simpsons Movie - It was okay but a bit disappointing. Spider pig was genius though. I still sing that.
Chicken Run - pretty good, but didn't make my list.

I like Dumbo and Bambi a lot, especially the first, but neither of them made my list.
I almost voted for The Simpsons Movie but again it just missed out, I like it a lot. I haven't watched loads of episodes, but I thought thefilm was really funny, although I am not sure why everyone is obsessed with the pig.
Chicken Run was my #7, a great movie that I have enjoyed since I was young. I like escape movies that focus on the planning and such, and I love how this film is constructed in a fun and thrilling away. Great voice performances and villains, and wonderfully brought to life through stop motion, I might write more some time.

I had Dumbo at number #6 on my list. Dumbo is Disney at its best and too bad this gem wasn't higher. The emotion of Dumbo is so raw I'm not sure how I survived it as a kid. It is countered with a lot of sweet and funny moments too which keeps it from being the emotional drag of something like the Plague Dogs.
Bambi does not hold up for me as an adult. It's something I would watch with my kid I had one, but as much as I have love for the characters I only want to watch them in bits and pieces.

Dumbo is a wonderful film, my number 18. I must've been taken to the pictures to watch it when I was about 3 or 4 as we never had a tv till we moved out of my nans house a few years later, and anyway Disney films wouldn't have been on tv then. I clearly remember being upset when Dumbo's mum was taken away, and being awestruck at the psychedelic pink elephants scene. I doubt if that would've been made now!
I didn't have Bambi on my list although I would watch it if I came across it on tv. I think even children recognise it veers into slightly too sweet territory.
I like Chicken Run. although I prefer the older Wallace and Gromits
I also liked the Simpsons film although not enough to put it on my list

I was expecting Linklater's other rotoscope project, Waking Life, to make it, but I thought A Scanner Darkly would fall out of the list...
Personally I prefer Waking Life over A Scanner Darkly but cool to see it make the list. As for Ghost in the Shell I never got around to it.

Waking Life might still make it.
Not seen either of those two, although I wanted to.
Ghost In The Shell was on my watch list. Even got the DVD from Netflix and had it ready to go. I just ran out of steam, I have watched a good bit of anime this year. My list was in good shape so I skipped it.
A Scanner Darkly was my #22. I hadn't watched it since it was released so I rewatched it before submitting my list. Despite its dark themes it is a surprisingly fun movie in a lot of ways. Good characters and visuals, and of course the script is top notch. Glad it made the list.

I hate Fantastic Planet, but mainly because I felt like going crazy and getting a headache watching it. The dark themes, the weird and creepy animation, and the unsettling eerie soundtrack...
I felt f*cking brainwashed watching it! But I do admire the unique animation and I understand the story behind it but don't see it as that well executed. I understand why one may like it though.
Haven't seen the other one.
Fantastic Planet was my #1.
Here's what I wrote about it back for the Movie Club discussion. It's not great and I ought to do a fine-tuned review for it some time, but yeah, I freaking love this flick.
I’m not great at explaining my thoughts on films but I’ll give it a try.
I first saw Fantastic Planet in my teens, I think. It’s possible I saw it when I was younger, but I consider my first viewing to be in my teens, because that’s when it was really cemented as one of my favorite films. I used to be kind of an artist, and Fantastic Planet inspired me like nothing else. I actually remember printing out screenshots and trying to learn crosshatching by tracing them. I absolutely adore its art style. It’s really a film where you could take just about any frame and put it up on the wall as a piece of art. People have called it stale, but I think the lack of fluid motion is part of the charm, really. It adds to the unique, alien feel of the film.
The score is my favorite score in film. I’ve listened to the soundtrack over and over again, and I’ve never gotten bored with it. I used to drive around and listen to it, trying to come up with story ideas, and again it inspired me to think up weird stories.
Lastly, I think this is the greatest portrayal of an alien world in cinematic history. I’ve never seen anything better. It’s surreal and weird, and it’s absolutely beautiful. Every viewing of Fantastic Planet has been a profound experience for me.
Here’s a painting my sister made for me for Christmas 2008.

I had Fantastic Planet at #16. :)
I STILL haven't seen Fantastic Planet, so I really need to get around to it at some point.
Whisper of the Heart was never going to make my list. Sure, it's sweet and all that, but there's just not a lot to it. There's a girl, there's a boy, they go through several periods of "meet cute", and there's also a gold cat. It's a standard Ghibli film which doesn't explore it's themes as well as Totoro or Spirited Away did. Basic.
I had Ghost in the Shell at Number ONE. Pretty much my favorite animated film ever. Cliche these days, perhaps, but i was there right at release, and when it first hit, everyone was talking about it. Well, people that liked animation, anyway. I also really like A Scanner Darkly a whole lot, saw it multiple times in the theater, and still pop it in from time to time these days. I had A Scanner Darkly at number FIVE.
Another two i haven't watched. I think i may watch Whisper of the Hearrt tonight.

I'd say there's way more to the film than simply that. ;)
Anyway, A Scanner Darkly, Whisper of the Heart and Fantastic Planet were truly serious candidates for my list, but I ultimately left all of them out. On another day, all three of them could've certainly been on it, though.
Three great, good-looking and thoughtful films...
I have yet to see Ghost in the Shell.

It's by no means a bad film, but it just seems so straightforward. :p I don't feel the magic that I felt with other Ghibli films, and I don't mean that just because the story is deeply rooted in reality, rather than the fantastical which punctuates many of the other Ghibli films of this era.
I've wrote something about the film before, but I don't think it was very substantial. I might need to watch it again. My opinion hardly ever changes when I think a film is average mind you. ;)

Whisper of the Heart was my #7. It's simply a masterpiece, beautiful, inventive, great music.
Whisper of the Heart is a masterpiece but a subtle one. It's great because it's extremely sophisticated animation manages to capture the subtleties of reality and make it more tacticle than in live action film. A Japanese film critic said that in an interview of Miyazaki, basically making some boring slice of life* magical. Slice of life fiction is not as popular among western fans of Japanese culture as it is among the Japanese for obvious reasons.
*Slice of life is a normal genre in Japanese fiction, Ozu, Naruse worked in the genre in the 1950's, and it's extremely common on manga as well.

I had Perfect Blue at number THREE on my list. At this point in time, I may actually enjoy watching Perfect Blue over both my number one and number two films, but I don't think it's a better film than either Ghost in the Shell (my number one) or the yet to be revealed film I have at number two. Regardless, Perfect Blue is awesome. Dark, unsettling, and it uses dream logic in a way that would be copied by Arronofsky for his Black Swan film. Sadly, Arronofsky straight out lifts a couple of scenes from Perfect Blue, copying them shot for shot. It's also sort of Lynchian with its girl-in-trouble premise, which I of course like. See this flick!
EDIT: Doing a bit of research, I see that Arronofsky bought the rights to Perfect Blue so he could lift scenes from it. That's...kind of sketchy.

Perfect Blue is pretty much what we would have gotten if Igmar Bergman directed an anime. The comparisons with Persona are pretty easy to make, and yet it also feels so astoundingly unique despite that. It is an absolutely, shockingly brilliant piece of animation.
Porco Rosso is great, but suffers from the same things that Miyazaki's other works do for me. I prefer his less childish, more ambitious later works like Princess Mononoke and Howl's Moving Castle. This is still a great film, and would probably make my own top 100 (low on the list), but is not really my exact cup of tea (same with My Neighbor Totoro).

You serious? Have you ever seen an Igmar movie?
I also had Perfect Blue at 3rd place
I wished it could've made it higher, for me it was a fenomenal film, with a giant twist that I myself did not see coming, it was dark and beautiful, very confusing unless you focus on it, even while focused it manages to confuse you a few times.
It left me speechless, that's how much I liked it. Hence why it's on 3rd place for me.
It's one of the few films I look forward to re-watch.

I disagree, at least to an extent. The entire structure of the film - the indistinguishable interplay of fantasy and reality through the mental lense of a mentally defunct woman - is strikingly similar to Persona. in terms of content, Perfect Blue seems like a modern successor to Persona, which is more of what I meant to say (I'll admit that, in all likelihood, I didn't clearly convey my meaning with my initial comment). I do agree that it is stylistically disparate from Bergman.
To put it another way, Perfect Blue is to Persona as Hero is to Rashomon.

Dumbo is my favorite of the last 8. It's got 3 or 4 amazing scenes; not bad for an hour-long picture.
A Scanner Darkly and Porco Rosso come next, both are solid 3.5s in my book.
Whisper of the Heart, Fantastic Planet and Perfect Blue are all good, but none was ever considered for my list.
Ghost in the Shell some striking images and music, and a mediocre story.

Sure, some ideas are similar - I wouldn't say strikingly, though. This "interplay of fantasy and reality through the mental lens..." has been done before and after Persona so I still don't see why it was singled out. Unless of course the Bergman comparison, like you initially posted, which doesn't make sense either in terms of theme or style as Persona is considered more or less unique among his filmography.

I can live with Frozen here.
It didn't make my list, but it's pretty good. I admit to being a little letdown after all the effusive praise I'd heard about it. Maybe it didn't have a chance in that context. My operating theory is that part of the praise has to do with the fact that it breaks a lot of the "Disney Princess" cliches, and that people are just so grateful for characters like this where the romantic angle is secondary to something else. Which I can understand, but as always, there's a difference between a great film and a capital-I Important one.
Anyway, good movie. Probably deserves a spot on the list, but probably not one much higher than this, so I think this is a good outcome.

Surprised Frozen's so low, seeing as everyone outside the forum is obsessed with it. I think its decent but overrated, so I'm glad to see it around here.
Howl's Moving Castle is decent, I think it's ambitious but very messy, so I don't consider it top tier Miyazaki.
I had Waking Life at #3, and I only just saw it before I submitted my list, you might think it's a little premature but I was blown away by it.

"Which is the most universal human characteristic: fear, or laziness?"
I can completely understand how someone would not enjoy this. However, and hopefully all film lovers will be able to relate here, every once in a while a film comes along and you watch it thinking it was made just for you. Recently I have been thinking a lot about where I am in my life, I am a university student who doesn't really enjoy his course and kind of wish I picked something that I enjoyed a little more, I want to be able to go out and do something in my life, to contribute something great, I'm constantly thinking of things but no that there are certain restraints, limitations in life, whether physical or in social terms, that mean I can not.
I think being at an important point in my life has lead to me dreaming more. I never really noticed it until a couple of weeks ago, but I have been dreaming a lot recently. And not just dreaming either, lucid dreaming. The first lucid dream I remember was probably when I was about four years ago now, so when I was probably fifteen, and I have them every now and again. I never paid much attention to them or never thought much about them, but in the last year, especially in the last few months I seem to be having a lot of them. I have been doing a lot of research about them as I find them completely fascinating, and even tried to control them. I seem to notice that a lot of them take place after long nights out when I have been drinking or doing other drugs. I remember last year when I was in my university accommodation I had this really long lucid dream, it was more like a nightmare, I kept peeling back the layers and trying to get out but I couldn't, and as I kept trying I had to keep reminding myself I was in a dream as you would fall back and forget this, but at the same time I knew exactly where I was in real life and it was like I was stuck there.
I knew this film had a lot of philosophical stuff from the posts of you guys recently, and after the first fifteen minutes I began to found it a bit less interesting. The peak of my interest in terms of that stuff was definitely the Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke scene. I have many times thought exactly what Julie Delpy's character says, about how life is just you relieving your memories. You are already dead, it is inevitable and you are now watching your memories back through your eyes, you are even reliving moments like this when you predict that you are going to relive them.
What I did not know, and this links back in to my first two paragraphs, that this movie was so focused on lucid dreams and the connection between reality, dreams and the way your body and brain works. I knew it was about dreams, of course, but not lucid dreams and not that it would go in to so much detail. I found the film absolutely fascinating and relatable in the weirdest ways possible. I feel like I have experienced many similar moments or thoughts in my life or in my dreams.
I do not think I have anything else to say really in regards to why I loved it so much, the animation style was fresh and totally fitted the content of the movie, I can not imagine the possibilities of the dream world being captured in any other way. An incredibly inspiring film that makes me want to go out and do something great with my life, it might sound silly, but it is one hundred percent true. Needless to say this will be at the top end of my animation list, and I really hope that some other people like me watch it and love it.
Howl's was a fun watch. I really like that world.
Frozen was pretty good with some great moments.
Waking Life is amazingly written but ultimately didn't have more for me than that. Way too much to digest in individual scenes, let alone as a whole.
Grinch is classic and I love it. I decided not to go with shorts for my list though. They feel like something different to me.
Nice set of four but none made my list.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas has been on my ballot since I made up a preliminary list well before all this became official. I can't recall a Grinch-less Christmas. I watch it at least once every year and it was a big reason why I wanted shorts included in the countdown. I had it at #21.

I didn't like Frozen at all and I think its newness is largely attributable to its placement here. Redo this list in a couple of years and I think you'll find it falling pretty far.
My List
6. Surf's Up (#99)
8. Over the Hedge (Near Miss)
9. Chicken Run (#51)
10. Charlotte's Web (#57)
11. Despicable Me (#61)
16. The Emperor's New Groove (#80)
21. How the Grinch Stole Christmas (#42)

It's funny you should say that - I agree that the difference between something like The Illusionist and something like Duck Amuck is quite apparent, but I don't see that with How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It feels totally complete to me and I've always thought of it as a feature. I was never aware that it only ran half an hour until I looked up its IMDb page when the discussion for this list started.

I think it's cool how 4 very different movies showed up on the same day.
I haven't seen The Grinch in years, but it's a childhood favorite that I used to watch every year, so it squeezed onto my list.
Frozen, Waking Life, and Howl's Moving Castle are all very well done, but I didn't like any of them.
My list-
7. Animal Farm
11. The Plague Dogs
16. The Wind Rises
18. Charlotte's Web
19. Kung Fu Panda
20. A Town Called Panic
21. Fantastic Planet
24. The Adventures of Prince Achmed (Near miss)

Well I like Frozen and it was in my top 10.
I'll admit that if I didn't have a small child who really, really, really loves it, I might have just watched it once and thought nothing more of it, but having watched it approximately 8 billion times (and watched the videos of the songs even more than that) my appreciation for it has only grown.
It's a fun, well made film, with strong characters (and, importantly, strong female characters) but what really sets it apart is the songs. Although I don't expect the musical-haters of the forum to appreciate this, Frozen is just a damn good musical. Christophe Beck (perhaps best known for his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has crafted a brilliant score as well.
I don't think it has got more points just for being new at all. It's become a kind of instant cult classic. How many other films can you think of that have fancy-dress sing-a-long screenings? (I can only think of two). And while all the three year olds with their cuddly Olafs and Elsa capes may grow out of it, I think its place in film history will only be secured as time passes.

Frozen was my number one and I am very glad it showed up at all! I know outside the forum it is a smash it, but I thought I would be the only schmuck here to vote for it. Anyway I love the story, the sound track (same guys who wrote The Book of Mormon), the way it plays havoc with traditional fairy tale and Disney tropes, the characters, and it was the movie where I rediscovered my love for Disney. And it was my second favorite film from last year.
Did not vote for the Grinch but very happy it showed up too.

4. Sleeping Beauty
5. Heavy Metal
11. Fantastic Planet

How the Grinch Stole Christmas is my #1! http://www.pennwagers.com/forums/images/smilies/first.gif

It can be, like, a metaphor of this animation countdown. I am casting Sexy Celebrity as the Grinch, even though he's actually not been as dramatic as he is for the decade countdowns ;D. Sexy's always sketpical of countdowns and questions the excitement of waiting on movies like Paprika, 5 Centimeters Per Second, and The Wind Rises.
Every MoFo down in MoFoville liked Animation a lot, but Sexy Celebrity, who lived just north of MoFoville - did not! Sexy hated Animation - the whole Animation season. Now, please don't ask why; no one quite knows the reason... Staring down from his cave, with a sour Sexy smirk, at the warm, lighted windows below in their little MoFo town.
'I must stop this *whole* thing! Why, for fifty-three years I've put up with it now. I must stop the Animation countdown from coming... but how?'
Then he got an idea. An awful idea. The Sexy got a wonderful, *awful* idea!
Sexy went and stole EVERY animation movie from EVERY MoFo down in MoFoville's house!!!
EVEN GUAPORENSE'S 898,024,834,889,723,104 ANIMÉ MOVIES!!!!!
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
They're finding out now that no Animation is coming! They're just waking up! I know just what they'll do! Their mouths will hang open a minute or two, Then the MoFos down in MoFoville will all cry BooHoo! That's a noise, grinned the Sexy Celebrity, That I simply MUST hear! So he paused. And the Sexy put his hand to his ear. And he did hear a sound rising over the snow. It started in low. Then it started to grow. Led by none other than Guaporense!!!!!
And what happened, then? Well, in MoFoville they say - that the Sexy's small heart grew three sizes that day. And then - the true meaning of Animation came through, and the Sexy found the strength of *ten* Sexy's, plus two!

He brought everything back, even Guapo's 898,024,834,889,723,104 animé movies, all the food for the feast. And he, he himself, the Sexy Celebrity - carved the roast beast
Woo Hoo! Animation!! The End!!!

I freakin' love Rikki Tikki Tavi! It didn't make my list because I decided to go with only feature length movies (with one exception) but it's brillant.
