If anyone who hasn't seen it has a spare 16 mins, you should check out Logorama. :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAKopCwGlcc
I finally found a few minutes to watch Logorama, and I thought it was pretty cool.
I didn't recognize all of the logos, but I recognized most of them, and the short was a lot of fun, and very clever.
You should consider entering it into one of the MoFo Shorts HOF Tournaments.
The debate with It's such a beautiful day... take into account that it's a compilation of short stories wrapped up as a common narrative piece. You will expect more stylized designs and forms coming from short films than features. Now, if we talk about Hertzfeldt there's no doubt he is very influenced by comic strips (it's hard to not see this in Ah, l'amour! or Rejected), but I would actually point at the narrative there; his stylistically simple designs do not belong by themselves to the realm of comic strips, they look more like the doodles you draw while you are attending a class or a conference. And in the particular case of It's such a beautiful day the narration deviates a lot, it turns abstract, experimental and introspective, so the similarities with a comic strip are, to me, very minor if not completely non-existent.
On Sexy Celebrity... let's all agree that he's too sexy for this countdown.

It's hard not to see Frozen as an accurate depiction of Walt Disney's current state.
Walt Disney's death spawned two rumors that became urban legends.
The truth is:
1) He did NOT have his body cryogenically frozen.
2) He was NOT buried somewhere on the grounds of Disneyland.
The fact is that Walt Disney was cremated, and his ashes interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
At this point, "Walt Disney is cryogenically frozen" is more of an Internet meme than anything. I was referring to that.

Why does everyone find Grace scary? Miss Vicky was creeped out by it, too. Is it the weird shots of things like her white-as-a-pearl teeth? The music? The physical transformations the girl goes through? The theme itself? What is it?
It's the music, the closeup of her eyes, how she seems to be in a painting or a mirror at the begining.

I'd drop $20 to see it on the big screen.

I haven't seen either of these two movies. Mask of the Phantasm doesn't look like my kind of movie at all. Garden of Words doesn't really either, but it does look very beautiful so I might have to borrow the DVD from my friend Funny Face at some point.
I like Mask of the Phantasm - I voted for it in the Comic List - but not for this one. I don't think I've even heard of Gatden of Words.
Garden of words is a visual feast of the highest caliber. Not that solid in terms of the story but in the end I don't think that matters as much, its main focus is clearly driven to the artistic detail. rating_4_5
I haven't watched the other one, due to my severe lack of superhero movies overall, but I plan to.
By the way, if by any chance you get interested enough to watch Garden of words, feel free to check the marginally superior 5 centimeters per second as well, which I hope will be in this list if only for internal coherence sake :D

I watched Garden of Words for the Hall of Fame - shorts edition (I think Sane nominated it then). I enjoyed it and thought it was visually very well done (Shinkai is undeniably a very talented artist), but the story seemed just a little bit too ... emotionally expressive and overly sentimental to me when I watched it. Maybe I was in a particularly cold mood, because I almost never give that criticism (it sounds so cynical to say something like that), but sometimes I do think it's valid to point this issue out. It just means that the drama up to a certain point of the film didn't earn the emotions the characters are suddenly showing for me personally. I guess that was the case for me with this film.
Again, this is very much a must watch if you're a fan of the art of animation. Like Jal90 said, story-wise it may not be that special (at least it wasn't for me) and maybe even seems a little cliché at times, but visually it's absolutely exceptional! And who knows, maybe you'll find the story sweet or sad in a resonating manner and will be captured by the film's drama in a way that I wasn't because you can relate to it better somehow (because of different life experiences for instance).
Be sure to find that out for yourself! This piece of film is definitely worth spending 45 minutes of time on.

Not a big Shinkai fan. Sure, the animation is well done, but the story, characters and dialogue never match the visuals in quality. I come out of the movie thinking, "that was okay." Never great. Others tend to disagree with me.

Mask of the Phantasm is awesome, as was the show that it was spawned from. It wasn't on my list at all, but I'm happy to see it all the same.
I've never even heard of Garden of Words before, but it looks interesting (now that I've looked it up). I'll have to go and check it out.

When it comes to animation, nostalgia outweighs quality. Most of the films that made my list are like security blankets. They trigger childhood memories of warmth and comfort. They transport me to a simpler, more innocent time. That's why The Brave Little Toaster was #15 on my list, even though I haven't seen it in over twenty years. I can barely recollect most scenes (although the junkyard sequence near the end remains surprisingly fresh in my mind), but it's less about the film than the memories and the emotions attached to it.
My VHS copy of The Brave Little Toaster ventured in and out of the VCR so many times that eventually the tape stopped working correctly. I doubt it's an easy feat for a kid to feel so attached to household appliances, yet I still remember the characters quite vividly, which is surely a testament to the film's characterization and voice work. I also recall the film's bold choice to display an interracial couple, which shouldn't be a big deal, but sadly it was at the time. I remember thinking such a relationship seemed a bit unusual at first, since I rarely saw interracial relationships on TV or in public, but Rob and Chris seemed so happy and healthy and normal that the difference in their skin color soon stopped registering with me. In hindsight, such a seemingly minor decision by the creators of the film seems like a subtle, subconscious way of reverse engineering any potential prejudice a kid might pick up from his or her parents.
I'm sure The Brave Little Toaster would've placed several spots higher on my list if it was a little more fresh on my mind. A reunion with my favorite animated appliances is long overdue. I’m disappointed that it didn't make the countdown.

All Dogs Go to Heaven is another childhood favorite. It was #6 on my list. Unlike The Brave Little Toaster, I own it on DVD and I've watched it a few times as an adult. I've always been an animal lover -- dogs, in particular -- so naturally that aspect of the film appeals to me. The songs suck, but there are several memorable sequences: Charley, Itchy and Anne-Marie placing bets at the racetrack; the effeminate King Gator (whose gender confused me mightily as a kid); the puppies wrestling over pizza; the blood-red sky and the demon from Hell awaiting Charlie's soul. Considering how increasingly uptight the rating system is nowadays, it's also kinda cool to see a G-rated film where the characters drink beer and gamble and smoke cigars and talk about whorehouses. I find the plot imaginative and entertaining. Burt Reynolds is a perfect vocal fit for the roguish German Shepherd and he has a great rapport with Dom DeLuise's Dachshund.
The real star of the movie, though, is Judith Barsi as the adorable orphan Anne-Marie. The way she pronounces Charley's name is one of the cutest things I've ever heard. She provides the heart and the warmth and the tenderness. She's responsible for all the "awwww!" moments of the film that tug at the heartstrings. Naturally, I assumed that she was voiced by a woman impersonating a little girl, since that's usually the case. Instead I discovered that Judith Barsi was a little girl herself. (She also voiced Ducky in The Land Before Time, another staple of my childhood.) Unfortunately I also learned that she was shot and killed by her father when she was only ten years old, so that news totally ruined my day. I'll never be able to hear her voice again without thinking of that horrible tragedy. :(
http://www.sfexaminer.com/imager/famous-tales-although-director-tim-burton-references-classic-horror-movies/b/original/2317005/9e49/Frankenweenie1005.jpg
Frankenweenie was my #16. I consider Tim Burton to be one of my favorite directors. I love his aesthetic (which is uniquely his own). And I especially love that he celebrates the freaks and weirdos and oddballs that don’t fit into society’s typical standards of normalcy. Again, being a dog-lover, Frankenweenie appeals to me. Anyone who has lost a pet will be able to sympathize with the story. The film is also a love-letter to the horror films of yore, so as a fan of Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein and the horror genre in general, I admire that aspect of the film. I had fun with all the various references, like the teacher who looks like Vincent Prince. I've developed a newfound admiration and respect for stop-motion animation and all the painstaking work that goes into it. I think Frankenweenie is one of the best animated films to come in recent years, and it's certainly the best film Burton has made in quite some time. I regret not putting it higher on my list.
----
As for the other movies to make the countdown so far, I haven't seen Surf's Up, It's Such a Beautiful Day or Garden of Words. Tarzan is fun and enjoyable, but I'd forgotten it even exists until it showed up on the countdown, so that can't be a good thing. A Bug's Life is decent, but I’m a much bigger fan of Antz from the same year. Batman: The Animated Series is one of my favorite television shows/cartoons, so naturally I love Mask of the Phantom. I’d rank it ahead of several of the live-action Batman films. I nearly included it on my list, but ultimately it didn’t make the cut.
My List So Far:
#6) All Dogs Go to Heaven
#15) The Brave Little Toaster
#16) Frankenweenie
I had Garden of Words at 6 on my list. I agree with what jal90 & Cobpyth said - visually stunning and that's why I love it. In terms of story it's pure Shinkai - and can see what Harry Lime is saying. When I started watching 5 Centimetres per Second I thought "this is going to be awful" because it was full of overly emotional narration which I tend not to like but something about Shinkai's films work for me.
From a character perspective I often end up feeling that I understand the characters and how they feel even if they are presented in a very cheesy way.
Anyway, as I said, I love it for the visuals and 45 minutes is a perfect length to really enjoy them.
Of the other movies I've only seen Frankenweenie which I liked - probably would be in my top 40 animated films.
Garden of Words was #19 on my list. Shinkai is possibly the greatest artist of the anime film directors. All of his films look absolutely stunning, making it no wonder that some dub his work as "eye porn".
The film itself has a somewhat stunted plot, with the main character (who is fourteen by the way, let's put that into perspective) wanting to become a shoemaker, and meeting the same woman (an adult woman) every time he goes to sit in the park when it rains. The thematic device of the rain runs right through the film, and Shinkai plays wonders with his animation of it; it looks strikingly realistic.
I think I've become more sentimental in old young age (that's what I'm calling being twenty), and so this film somewhere strikes a chord with me; a boy who wants to pursue his dreams at the cost of everything else, and a woman who has got problems of her own being the muse for his artistry. It's not as complex as some of Shinkai's other films, but that does not diminish the impact that its simplistic plot had on me.
I haven't seen Mask of the Phantasm, but was meaning to watch it for this list and didn't get round to it. I've heard mainly good things about it, so I'll have to give it a watch some time.
I had Mask of the Phantasm at #11. It's an awesome film. In fact it may well be my 2nd favourite Batman film behind Batman Begins. It's between Phantasm and Batman Returns for the no.2 spot
Here's what I wrote about it a while back

Batman: Mask of the
Phantasm
Yes it's an animated film. Yes it's only 73 minutes long. And yes it may be lacking in big-name talent. But I genuinely believe this to be one of the best adaptations of the Batman character ever to hit the screen. And one of my personal favourites. Though when you take into consideration that the film is a spin-off from the superlative animated series of the 90s it really shouldn't come as any surprise just how good it is. The writing for the film is fantastic across all levels; the story, characterisation and dialogue. And that writing helps to create a stronger romantic storyline for Bruce Wayne than most of its live-action counterparts have managed. Bruce Wayne and Andrea Beaumont have a great 1930s/40s screwball comedy/film noir nature to their interactions and dialogue. The vocal performances across the board are all very strong, from Kevin Conroy as Bruce Wayne/Batman to Mark Hamill's spot-on work as The Joker. I also love the appearance of the film. I love the look of the Gotham presented here; it's got a very gothic, art deco, film-noir aesthetic. And some of the shot compositions are excellent. This also helps in creating some great action set-pieces which are so satisfying and thrilling that they go beyond the film's animated limitations. Rather excellent.

Haven't watched either, but I'm interested in Garden of Words since I watched 5 Centimeters Per Second and thought it was one of the most visually striking animated movies I've ever watched. The story? Not so much, and it seems like this will be down that alley as well, but I'll give a go anyways!

Fox And The Hound was #14 on my list. I love it. It is by far my favorite of what I call classic Disney. I know some of you youngins consider things like Lion King classic, I don't. Anyway it is a very sweet story and like a lot of Disney has some melancholy as well.
Like the Despicable me films, if the Shrek movies had been released when I was a child there is no doubt I would have loved them. Watching them as an adult is a chore for me. So none of the Shrek movies made my list.

That's almost word for word what I was going to say.
I'm pretty sure that I saw The Fox and the Hound when I was younger, but it didn't make much of an impression on me. I don't remember much about it, so it didn't make my list. (It was on my watchlist for a rewatch, but I just ran out of time.)
I'm not a big fan of the Shrek movies. I've seen them all, including the TV specials, and I even have most of the Shrek movies on DVD, but for some reason, when I'm looking for something to watch, Shrek is rarely picked. Sometimes I'll watch them when I'm flipping channels and one of the Shrek movies is on TV, but I rarely go looking for them.

The Fox and the Hound is a touching story about an unusual friendship that, like any good Disney Classic, knows how to pull at the heartstrings. It's a minor Disney picture, in my opinion, but it's nevertheless a very heartwarming experience.
http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Film/Pix/pictures/2009/1/30/1233315298231/Puss-in-Boots-in-Shrek-2-001.jpg
I have pretty much the same feeling about Shrek 2 as I have with all of the first three Shrek movies. When it's trying to be funny, inventive and entertaining, it totally works for me and I enjoy myself a lot, but when it tries to delve into more emotional territory, it kind of loses me. This one is probably my favorite or second favorite film of the series (kind of on par with the first one), but to be sure, I should rewatch all of them again.
Just like Miss Vicky, I'm also a fan of the Puss in Boots character (be sure to also check out his spin-off movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0448694/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1) if you like the character, because it's a lot of fun in a fantastically weird kind of way).

I like The Fox and the Hound but it didn't make my list. There is something about the voice acting of both Fox and Hound that is a little off putting to me. It's still a wonderful story that is so very cute and a touch sad.

I still haven't voted for any on the list. :) I thought The Fox and the Hound was a step up from the '70's The Aristocrats and The Rescuers, but I didn't consider voting for it. Shrek 2 is my choice for the best of the Shreks, and I did consider it but not for too long.

Fox and the Hound was a great film. Fun fact: Tim Burton worked as an animator on the film, but his animal drawings were so terrible that they were only shown fslaringly, and even then at a distance.

Haven't been on here in a few days properly so got quite a bit of catching up to do.
Not surprised to see some less than great entries at the beginning of the list, but quiet surprised at some of the films that have failed to make the cut!
A Bug's Life and Shrek 2 are both decent movies for me, although I've never got the appeal like some others. With the latter, I'm not a massive fan of the series in general, although the first would be my favourite, I'd expect to see that higher up.
Garden of Words I watched for the last short hall of fame and I thought it was good, beautiful animation but I was unsure a little bit on how it conveyed some of its themes/story through the animation, I can definitely see why people like it though.
Tarzan was number 24 on my list. A great animated film that often gets overlooked in the favour of other Disney films. With a few of my lower picks, childhood nostalgia factored in to my decision making a lot, and I loved this film when I was younger. I remember I had it on PlayStation too, and it was a great game to play.
Frankenweenie was one of the last films that I cut from my list, one of my favourite animjated films in recent years and I think that it doesn't get enough praise around here either. I love stop-motion, and although Tim Burton is hit and miss for me, his dark gothic style suits this perfectly, a great homage to many horror films.
The Fox and the Hound is a good children's animated film, I don't remember particularly loving it when I was younger but I saw it again fairly recently with my sister, and thought it was quite an effective and emotional tale despite its simplicity, I would bet the majority of people have seen this and enjoyed it at some point.
Whilst I haven't seen It's Such a Beautiful Day in its entirety, I have seen one of its 'segments' Everything Will Be Ok which I found to be a fascinating short that managed to convoy a number of different emotions and themes of life with simple but beautiful hand drawn animation. I know a few people on here love it, and find it really beautifully and important to them, so I am glad that this made it.
From the near misses, Robin Hood was another film I considered for my list, a great animated adaptation of a classic story. Over The Hedge is okay. Ice Age is a decent film that I would have preferred over A Bug's Life or Shrek 2. Vincent is a delightful animated short also by Tim Burton, I watched it because Mark recommended it in his top 100 thread, and I thought it was very good.
Edit: Anastasia I always thought was okay, but never liked it that much, I think I found the villain really scary.

I seen Anastasia a long time ago so I can't give an exact rating. Because of major historical inaccuracies, I don't know if I'll like it. Probably a 2.5. Hell, might as well give that film that rating on my IMDB in the mean time.
I recently read Animal Farm for school and I loved it. For some reason, my teacher showed the 1999 version and not the animated version (which I haven't seen). I hated the 1999 version.

Also late to the party, let's see here....
Brave Little Toaster I wanted to vote for it, desperately, but did not. I guess that means it makes my #26.
Shrek 2 Hated this one. I'm a fan of the original, but found this one to be irritating. I hope the other sequels don't make it.
A Bug's Life I guess this is confirmation that almost ALL of the Pixar films will make the cut? The only ones I think that won't are Cars and Cars 2. A Bug's Life is weaker Pixar, so if the others don't make it, I'll be shocked.
Cloudy with a chance of meatballs I am the only one who voted for it. It is colourful, witty and a lot of fun. Im kind of surprised I was the only one as well. It did well enough to warrant a sequel.
Looking at this list so far, I know for sure that a lot of mine won't make the cut.

I also love the book Animal Farm. I read it for English class when I was 16. It's one of those brilliant satirical classics (and it's also very compact and to the point, which I like). I've read it two more times since, I think, but I haven't seen the movie yet.
I've watched Anastasia in my youth once, but truth be told, I don't remember one thing about it, so I don't consider it truly "watched" yet.
None of these films have been on my list, but I have watched Animal Farm and enjoyed it 3. However, I might be adverse to it because I read the book first, and no adaptation will be able to come close in my mind. Even so, I am happy to see it on this list. I've never seen Anastasia and I watched The Fox and the Hound so long ago that I couldn't really remember it for this list, and Shrek 2 is just, OK. Not good, not particularly bad, just, OK. It works where it wants to, but nothing really excites me, or makes me go, "wow", like the first one did.

Animal Farm is the first from my list to appear on the countdown. I had it as my number thirteen. Like the Orwell it is adapted from, the cartoon is really timeless, even though they changed the ending to one of hope against the tide of tyranny. And now knowing that it was covertly funded by the Central Intelligence Agency as a piece of Cold War propaganda just makes it all the more delicious.

Anastasia was one that I always liked, but was overly-silly from the villain's half, I thought. Still, "In the Dark of the Night" is one of my favorite songs from any animated film and I have a soft spot for Russian history (thanks History Channel).

I've loved Looney Tunes cartoons for as long as I can remember, and I had The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie at #3 on my list. I'm glad to see that it made the countdown, but I was hoping that it would place higher than #88.
How could anyone not love this movie? It has some of the best Looney Tunes shorts, including "Duck Dodgers in the 24½th Century", "Hare-Way to the Stars", "Duck Amuck", "Rabbit Fire", "Rabbit Seasoning", "What's Opera Doc?", and more.
Did anyone vote for any of these shorts individually, and if so, did they calculate into the voting for the complete movie at all, or did the votes just get split and hurt its chances of placing higher on the countdown?
I love most of the classic Disney animated movies, and 101 Dalmatians is a great movie, but there are better Disney animated movies that didn't make my list, so sadly, this one didn't have a chance on my list. I'll answer questions about individual placements at the end of the countdown and not any sooner. We still have 86 films left to go in the countdown. Perhaps some of those films are Looney Tunes shorts. You'll have to wait and see.
That's fair. :)
Hopefully some of the individual shorts made the list too.
I didn't and wouldn't vote for this particular Looney Tunes compilation because none of the movies I would and did vote are shown unedited. The best part of this one, which I originally saw at the theatre, is the Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote segment. The movie's still fun, but I've always found it disappointing. I know they mean a lot to a lot of people, but I also think Disney's '60s/'70s cartoons are their weakest, although I expect to see a couple more on the list. /wet blanket :)

Yeah, I'm with Mark. I'm a purist. That some of you are seemingly enamored with edited versions of these truly classic cartoons is just sad, to me. Or what may be sadder is that you might not even love them enough to know the difference? I was disappointed by and even angry with this movie when I was nine-years-old.

Everyone got a box of Kleenex? Looks like it's time to cry over edited versions of Road Runner cartoons.
He doesn't run as fast in these!!! With the edits come reduced speeds!
Although, actually, edits should make him run even faster now that I think about it... take part of the scene out and Road Runner can appear somewhere even faster.
Maybe Road Runner was actually running too slowly so they edited his runs to make it look like he was even faster than he was.....

Yeah, when rewatching the shorts some time ago, I also noticed that they were edited in the film, so that's why The Bugs Bunny/Road-Runner Movie ultimately didn't get my vote.
I did vote however for 101 Dalmatians. People often complain that it looks a little "cheaper" than the classics from the '50s and '40s or than the films of the Disney Renaissance (which is absolutely true), but for me, that's part of the charm of this movie. It gives the film a certain jazzy feeling. I think they used the particular style extremely effectively here. I absolutely adore it!
At the same time, 101 Dalmatians is also a childhood favorite, so that's why I had this film at #12 on my list. I love the story, I love the animation style, I love the villains, I love the heroes. It's simply one of the greatest Disney family adventures of all time (and people seemed to love it at its release, since it did HUGE business at the box office)! The film is also full of awesome individual scenes. Here are a few of them:
The fantastic opening:

Pongo looking out of the window of Roger's apartment, looking for a woman that would be able to give some meaning to their boring Bachelor life:

The delicious introduction of Cruella De Vil:

Rewatched 101 Dalmatians and liked it but it had no chance at making my list... I love the animation style though, I think it has charm and personality.

101 Dalmations is the first to appear from my list, had it at no. 11. Visually not as strong as Disney's other works but the storyline more than makes up for that. Plus it has possibly one of the best baddies in film history. It would always appear on my list but given the fact it's a favourite of my daughters, i ended up pushing it higher up.
101 Dalmatians is indeed a classic, but I didn't vote for it as in my opinion wasn't enough to be in a list of 25 of the best animated films ever made.

Seen both, like both, voted for neither.
I have a lot to catch up on as I spent the weekend in Moscow and naturally didn't have time for forums. Could have sworn that I put The Fox and the Hound and Anastasia on my list, but I guess they didn't make the cut. Goes to show how many favorites that I had to cut from my Top 25. Fox and the Hound is light at moments and then irrepressibly heartbreaking in others. I usually break down when the old lady looks back at Todd after dropping him in the wild.
Anastasia has always been a lot of fun for me. Batok definitely steals the show, but that dog is also great. Unlike many here, I actually enjoy the Rasputin aspect of the story. I can see the arguments that it is unnecessary, but he is just such a well created villain I can't help but love his creepy face. Of course, I have never watched this movie with the intention of learning history and as long as you are cool with artistic license it's a great flick.
Animal Farm was a good watch for me, but I don't think it could ever make a Top 25 animations list for me just because I love the book so much more. Totally forgot about Bugs/Looney Tunes in any form for my list, but I'm certainly happy this made it. 101 Dalmatians is a movie I like, but don't love. In fact, I think I prefer the live action to the animation.

What are some of these edits in the Road Runner movie that have some people incensed?
Don't remember the specifics. I haven't bothered to watch The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie since I was a kid. No need. Especially in this day and age, when the unedited originals are pretty easily available.
But when I saw the movie as I kid, I already had the originals memorized, from years of afternoon TV watching in the 1970s, where the Looney Tunes and many, many other cartoons from the '30s through '50s were shown in packages, almost daily. I knew when jokes or scenes were missing. And they were.
During the 1980s Bugs Bunny and the other Warner Bros. characters had a Saturday morning show, and my brother and I wouldn't watch that thing for the exact same reason: shortening cartoons.

Paprika was on my list! I had it at #24. I don't like it as much as one of Satoshi Kon's other films (people who know me probably already know about which movie I'm speaking), but it still has many of the imaginative qualities that I like so much about the director. It's a wild film about the subconscious that slowly unravels into a dramatically satisfying story. Nolan fans who watch it will also notice that some of the dream sequences were obvious influences for Nolan's Inception.
A must watch for fans of animation!
I haven't seen 5 Centimeters Per Second yet, but I plan to in the future.

5cm per second was on my list, quite low down, but it was there. Shinkai films have the most beautiful animation of any films, but the stories are, as others have pointed out, frequently lacking. The first segment of this film could stand on its own maybe better than the film as a whole. The story in 5 cm is more palatable than in Garden of Words which has already shown up, and this is the Shinkai film I'd most recommend of the three I've seen (I didn't get round to watching everything on my watchlist).
I've seen Paprika, it's very well done in some ways but I'm not mad on it as a film. I voted for one Satoshi Kon film but it wasn't this one.

I've yet to see a bad film from Miyazaki, and The Wind Rises looks like it could be his beautiful swansong, but I'm yet to see it. I would have guessed it could have appeared higher if we did this list in a few years time, no surprises to see it about here.

Finally, something that I voted for! I wasn't entirely as enamored with The Wind Rises as I hoped I would be, but it was never-the-less a fantastic film beautifully expressed: an apropos final film for Miyazaki.
Mulan is a weirdly great film with several incredibly memorable sequences ("Reflection," her running off in the middle of the night to join the army, "I'll Make a Man Out of You," and the final confrontation at the imperial palace). I am incredibly happy that it made the list, even if I was not responsible for its inclusion.

Haven't seen The Wind Rises yet but I am about to say something I have never said about anime before, I am looking forward to it. Netflix just got it in December so I will see it soon.
Mulan was part of my "I don't think I like Disney anymore" stage. Whether that was a result of the quality of movies or my viewing sensibilities is still not clear to me. Mulan was my #14. This has always been a favorite and I appreciate its social commentary on gender roles. The songs are brilliant and the characters are a lot of fun. Though, like A Bug's Life, I was scared the first time I saw this movie. Hun hand shooting up out of snow, not cool, Disney, not cool.
The Wind Rises was another film on my watchlist that I didn't get to. I'm sure I'll see it soon enough, hopefully I won't kick myself for not seeing it before the list.

The Wind Rises was my #20! The main thing I loved about the film was the historical setting of the second world war (and the morally ambiguous comments on it from the viewpoint of Japan) and the deeper looks the film offers into the passion the main character has for engineering and planes. The personal story worked as well for me, though. It's also one of Miyazaki's most tenderly made and emotionally satisfying films. I still hope this isn't his last one, but it sure seems lit it, unfortunately...

And to be honest I had to put some movies I wouldn't put as "perfect or masterpiece" just because I didn't watch enough animated movies, sad but true. No time for everything when you do it on the last minute.

Anastasia is not a Disney film. ;)
And Mulan is not a princess, but "princess" has kind of become the word used to describe female Disney protagonists, so I know what you mean.
Anastasia isn't Disney. :)
Ohh Fox animations I see, thanks :)

I don't want to post because I've already posted today's movies.
From the first post of this thread:
If an unforeseen event prevents me from posting on a particular day, I will post two sets the following day.
"There's a good chance I will lose power" does not qualify as "foreseen." If I don't have power tomorrow, I'll post tomorrow's movies the next day.

Oh, well thank you for calling me "sexy." Women always find me irresistible, even at my age. I can't date you, though, as I've made it a rule to only date women with names that start with the letter I. You'll have to change your name to Miss Icky first.
You really should reconsider posting two more movies. In fact, you should post a lot more than that. After tomorrow, you're going to get mononucleosis, which is the kissing disease -- by the way, don't kiss your rats tonight (though I know you will) -- and anyway, you're going to be cooped up in bed for a few months and you won't be able to do any posting at all. I don't see this countdown continuing until April. So you might as well just post the rest of the list tonight.

We nearly always lose power during severe storms. It's not the weather forecasters predicting that; it's my own prediction based on experience.

I heard something called "The Sexy Curse" tried to get me, and it did, and it also got Dorothy Michaels, too... I went to Heaven and all that. Met a ton of celebrities. Slept with Joan Rivers. Slapped Robin Williams (can't believe what he did!) Got slapped by Deadite.
But... weirdly, something in the space/time continuum changed (or something like that?) and now we're both back and alive again. I dunno. It happens. I've seen this happen a lot of times, actually. One minute I'm chatting with a ghost, the next day I'm in the supermarket and they're a living person again. Strange universe.

I was disappointed to see Vincent didn't make the list. Was glad to see others liked it. Quite a clever little film.
Funny that Tarzan and A Bug's Life were next to each other on the list, as they were next to each other on my list, #97 and #98, respectively. I kind of figured that they would list low as there are so many animated movies to choose from. I almost had Mulan on my list, but like I said...so many to choose from, so it just barely missed the cut.

Lilo & Stitch was my #22 vote.
It's really funny and touching and cute. The animation is gorgeous and I could relate to Lilo's struggles to fit in and find friends. It's definitely one of Disney's better works and I highly recommend it.

Such a long time since I watched Lilo & Stitch! Used to watch the series as well so I kind of mix it all up and it's hard to distinguish the two from each other... Might have to give it a go again soon as I didn't get around to it during the animated binge-watching... ;)

I agree with this... Cute movie, beautiful animation as always from Ghibli, but it needed a bit more if it was to put on my list.
And again, the layout and artworks are beautiful, Miss Vicky! Makes the list so much more enjoyable to follow!

I was the one who had Lilo and Stitch in 6th place. I'm glad to see that my list actually was the one that made the difference for this movie. :D
I love everything about Stitch: The character, this movie, the sequels, and the TV series. I wanted to include a couple of the Stitch movies on my list, but I just didn't have room to include everything that I wanted to include, so I narrowed it down to my favorite Stitch movie, which is the original movie that introduced the characters. (Stitch! The Movie is my second favorite Stitch movie because it introduced his cousins.)

I watched a bunch of Japanese animations for this list, and Ponyo was one of my favorites, but it didn't make my list.
Unfortunately I found that most of the Japanese animations were either too dark and/or disturbing for me, or they kind of blended together in my mind, making it hard to distinguish one from another. Ponyo was one of the movies that stood out in my mind, and I considered it for my list, but it just didn't make my final list.
This is a broken record, but I like both, I recommend both, but I didn't vote for either. I apparently haven't posted about Lilo and Stitch here before, but it does have one wild and crazy sense of humor. :) Here are my thoughts about Ponyo:
Ponyo (Hayao Miyazaki, 2008) 3.5
http://runningdownhill.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/ponyo.jpg
Incredibly-colorful Miyazaki masterpiece about so many things which are impossible to describe is still a wonderful tale to reflect upon and savor in a world which is just not all that full of wonder without his incredible stories. This one is somehow criticized for being more on the childish side than normal but that all depends on what the viewer brings to the magical table. Considering that much of it is based on Wagner's The Ring Cycle, I find that difficult to accept. Somehow this classic received no Oscar nomination.

You should give it a shot sometime. It's not your typical Disney fare. As Mark said, it's got a wicked sense of humor. It's also not a musical so there's no obnoxious songs to worry about.
I haven't seen Ponyo but of all the Ghibli fare I've not yet watched, it looks the least interesting.

It's the same thing with me. That's why I don't considered it a film that I actually truly watched yet.
Ponyo is a sweet film. I've only seen it once, so I can't truly say that I completely delved into this film yet, but the one thing that didn't fully work for me, was the contrast between the more intimate and small-scale atmosphere of practically the whole film and the bombastic finale (with that giant, fantastical, goddess-like creature). It's magical, but at the same time it seems too much of a leap (even with all the weird stuff that's going on before that moment).
Besides that, it's still a very enjoyable Miyazaki film, but I don't count it as one of my personal favorites of his.

That bugged me a bit too. For me, that the relationship between Ponyo and Sosuke was enough to drive the film and the whole global flood plot seemed more than a little forced; kind of like trying to splice 2012 and The Princess Bride together. It's a nice little movie but it's definitely not Miyzaki's best either.

I have seem Ponyo. It was a pretty solid film from Miyazaki, but 78% of all Japanese anime fans seem to prefer PMMM and also Utena. They are simply more comprehensive and 89% of ignorant Americans wouldn't seem to get it. It has been a while since I seem it.
In reality though, I did enjoy Ponyo. This has me thinking that Miyazaki has a outside chance at a clean sweep of all his films making it.

I haven't paid too much attention to this countdown until now. Nothing I've voted for has made the cut yet, but one of the one pointers is mine, and two that just barely missed the list.
But first....
http://www.angelfire.com/music6/walteregan/AnimationCountdown/onepointers.jpg
The One Point List
These films each received only one point. This means that they each got only one vote and that one vote was for #25. Some of these are sort of afterthoughts, tacked on in order to fill out the ballot and others were deliberately put at that position in the hopes of getting them on this list and giving them some recognition in the countdown.

Lotte Reiniger's Cinderella was mine. It's just really beautiful, like basically everything she made; it's also clever, and the beginning when the silhouette's getting cut just really hits me. I just really love this particular modern score as well.

I love these two so much. They were both in my top ten, I think. I've watched Vincent so many times, since I was a kid, I have the voiceover completely memorized, just through osmosis. And like I said for Cinderella, The Adventures of Prince Achmed is really beautiful. It just has so many indelible, crazy good, detailed images.
