Rubber was one that I had a lot of trouble getting through as well. It actually started out awesomely, but rapidly nose-dived into essentially unwatchable.

My boyfriend and I watch about 1-2 movies a day on netflix, it's hard finding really good ones though
Neiba, you really sat through Rubber? Haha
I gave it a 5 for the concept... You can't say it's not original! :p The acting is horrible, but it's not thaaat bad if you don't take it serious! But it would be better if it was a short!
I rather liked Rubber. It's incredibly dumb but it's also really fun as long as you don't expect it to make sense. Cutting 15-20 minutes off it would have improved it quite a bit though.
Definitely original. You know, I think you might be right about it being better as a short.

I gather he watched it. :p:D
I just really didn't find it funny or compelling. I didn't even like Keaton's character much in it. Some of the technical elements are still very impressive though.

That's all I've ever seen in it. My guess is, if you don't find slapstick funny (like most normal people:D) then there's not much else there.

I do like slapstick though. That's the problem. I've thoroughly enjoyed all Chaplin's features I have seen (I think I have seen all but Limelight) and the other two Keaton films I have watched (Steamboat and the Cameraman).

I still thought it was a good film but not for the reasons I wanted. However yes, I probably was a little biased with it being considered one of the all-time greats. My enjoyment was somewhat low but my appreciation for it however was still very high. If you get me?
...and I think I will learn to like the film more on multiple watches.

Metropolis (1927, Fritz Lang) - 150 Minute New Version - no rating
The reason for the no rating is due to the fact we were made to watch it with the commentary which seemed to have distracted me greatly, especially with reading the title cards. However, I liked it a lot and was very impressed but I am still very confused about a lot of the plot points thus the film requires another watch.

It has it's funny moments and it's downright awful moments. It's starts off well but towards the ends becomes somewhat of a chore to watch, it gets really dumb. Not a very good film.

The Tracey Fragments (2007, Bruce McDonald) CINEMA - 77 minutes 3+
This experimental film doesn't work all too well but the acting from a young Ellen Page is pretty great as always.
"When a horse falls, foam comes out of its mouth. When it falls, the legs of the horse thrash and the horse is no good... So somebody shoots it. The horse turns into glue. A machine puts the glue into bottles and children squeeze the bottles to get the glue out and stick bits of paper onto cards. Glue gets on the children's hands and the children eat the glue. And the children become the horse."

Holy crap, I don't think I've come across anyone that's seen this before. Been a while since I saw it, but I remember it being really freaky and effective atmospherically (very... Canadian?), but the visual experimentation was completely one-note and got in the way of everything after the first ten minutes.

Oh and RE: Harry Potter, I'm reading a brilliant and substantial fanfiction called The Methods of Rationality (http://hpmor.com/) and I'm recommending it to everyone. It basically imagines Harry as a child prodigy having been brought up by a biochemistry professor that Petunia married instead of Mr. Dursley, coming at magic from a scientific, rational perspective. He comes off as a real d*ck a lot of the time and it's fantastic. Highly recommended if you're interested in reading a wildly alternative take on the world.

I do Film Studies at university and I am currently in my first year. On Fridays and in this semester we are looking at analyzing film and each week we look at a different element and a film is shown that strongly features the element. For this film we looked at editing and discussed if it was effective or not and how it was used and why. Simple stuff really.

So am I, if you didn't know. :p Final year of my BA (with a Masters proposal in progress ). Definitely standard stuff, but The Tracey Fragments is an unusual example, in a good way. One of my lecturers was into Asia-Pacific film so we watched a bunch of cool shorts from Australia/New Zealand when we covered editing. Much more enjoyable discussing something unusual like that than the tired, obvious examples like Battleship Potemkin, films you're gonna watch and read about as a film student anyway.

Good luck with that! I would love to go on to do a masters. I can't wait to see what I get for my first assignments (I spent a lot of time on them!). I haven't actually seen Battleship Potemkin yet. I do plan to though.

Have you seen the 6 films from Paul Thomas Anderson? Excluding Inherent Vice, since it isn't out yet most places in the world. But check out his 6 films, they are all excellent and highly entertaining. His most underrated is Sydney or also called "Hard Eight".
Have you seen Snowpiercer yet? I'd recommend that or I Sell the Dead which was surprising little gem and I think should still be on Netflix.

Yeah, you're probably right! But I'm still trying to learn a lot about plastic arts. It's all relatively new to me! :)

Whoa! This is kinda cool! This really makes me want to try this out too, with the new year coming and all. Could I join in too and post my list of movies every day? I've got 887 films under my belt, but I sure have a lot of movies I haven't watched yet, and this list-a-movie-each-day thing seem like the perfect thing to keep me watching more movies.

Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984, Charles E. Sellier Jr. (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0783398/?ref_=tt_ov_dr)) - 85 Minutes

I would say that around 40% of the film is recycled from the previous film and the acting is a whole lot worse than the former. Not a good film apart from some humorous killing scenes and GARBAGE DAY!

And the last + rep you'll get from me for simply watching a film. :D
It's amazing that you've done this, though. When you started it I didn't even think you'd still be a regular member here, let alone complete the challenge. Congratulations and well done. You've become a good regular, too.
I doff my hat to you, sir! :)
I've said it before man but really happy you achieved your goal! People often lose interest with their New Years resolutions halfway (if not less) through the year, so it's awesome you got all the way through and seemed to enjoy it the whole way through, since it inspired you to take film seriously.

I can honestly say that I have enjoyed completing this challenge through all of the obstacles I had to work against. From watching films in a tent during my Duke of Edinburgh to watching films while on holiday in France and Swtizerland and most recently the wonderful Miyazaki pieces while in Rotterdam for the weekend with my beautiful girlfriend. This year has been great for me. I found the girl I wish to keep for the rest of my life, I've gotten into the university of my choice and have made new friends whilst doing pretty darn well with my assignments. I cannot wait to see what 2015 brings me and to see what new things I discover in the film world!
Thank You!
FINAL FILM COUNT = 504
FULL UPDATE TOMORROW!
Rhys, you've inspired me to try this myself. I'm going to do a movie a day and see how far I make it.

I wish to congrats you for all the hard work! It's CRAZY!!!
As many others you've inspired me to do the same, but I doubt I will be able to succeed. Nevertheless, it's a great way to experience plenty of movies, so let's see how it goes... :D
Nah, I just joined this forum on september this year and I only started watching movies in a regular way in August, so it was only a way to keep myself motivated to watch as many movies as I could!
But I probably watched more movies in those 4 months than in all my life, so I'm happy I joined the forum and this thread! :)
Thanks Rhys! Thanks Mofos! :D

Happy to have you aboard. I know the feeling. This site have ramped up my viewing habits as well, and I already felt like I was watching a bunch.
Thank you so much guys :)
Now I'm sad this thread is over. I always had fun seeing the movies you would post. But, you have a new thread for me to look forward to, so no harm done.
