In my high school art class we had to paint our profiles but have it represent us somehow. I painted myself as Alex, with the hat and eyelash.
That makes you instantly cool in my book. ;)

Night of the Creeps

One of the best zombie films of all time and a pure eighties cheese-fest, Night of the Creeps is a classic. Much like Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Creeps is a horror spoof/ comedy. The comic relief coming in the form of a crazy cop, who went off the rails 20 years earlier after his girlfriend was brutally murdered, with "Trill Me!" being his favorite catchphrase. The small town is terrorized my alien parasites, which come in the form of giant slugs that crawl into peoples' mouths, turning them into zombies. It's up to the mad cop and two students to save the townsfolk from the zombie horde. If you're into horror films then Night of the Creeps is a must watch.

Rocky IV is yet another great film from the Rocky franchise. I am blown away at how good these films actually are. This one is very gimmicky at times, like number 3 but is also very powerful. I don't know much about world history, nor the Cold War but I heard this movie influenced the end of it. Maybe I will look into these things more in time. I liked this film a lot but maybe I like them more than most.

Rocky V is a decent film. But it isn't great. Firstly, it's not really a Rocky film. The story is completely different to any of the others. This isn't necessarily a problem but it is if the story isn't great. I didn't think this was a terrible film but it is very flawed. I probably only liked it because it's part of the franchise.

Rocky Balboa is a fantastic film, with a great story and brilliant messages. The final fight scene was pretty great but it doesn't compare to the first two movies. I like how Marie came back too. The scene were Rocky was talking to her whilst walking her home in the first movie was one of my favorites and most memorable, if you exclude the fight, of course. A very good way to close off the franchise which I believe to be one of the greatest franchises of all time and possibly my favorite.

Chariots of Fire is a visually beautiful sports film with great acting and a fantastic soundtrack. However, although I did enjoy this film a fair amount, I found it to be boring at times. I also didn't care for the characters all that much and the ending didn't hit me like I would have wanted. I didn't really care about them winning. It's definitely a good film. But not as good as I was hoping it to be. But, of course, this is only my opinion.

Kingdom of The Crystal Skull was an ok movie. It's not as bad as I originally thought it was going to be which may have been the reason I liked it a tiny bit more than I should have. The CGI was awful, it definitely damaged the feel of the film considering the original three relied highly on great practical effects. The acting wasn't too bad but the story itself was pretty awful. Aliens? Please. I enjoyed it but it is by far the worst. I just think that it is probably hated on a little too much. It's watchable and still pretty great fun but I don't particularly want anymore.

Elephant is a powerful film, which think is based on the Columbine Highschool Massacre. It is beautifully shot and put together, with lots of long takes (the majority of the film I think) which really do help submerge you into the environments, especially the school itself. It is well acted and is overall a very good film. I'd definitely watch this again.

The story was interesting but I didn't think it was anything special. I didn't think the visuals were all that special either. They weren't bad but apart from one or two short scenes it just felt like watching an average move, if you get me? Good movie, very interesting, good acting and story, action was decant,I think it was hard to create better action scenes with that suit.Atmosphere is great, dialog is good, but there is something I dont like and that is The Joker...I don't say Jack was bad,far from that,he was awesome,I have problem with character of Joker and this is why:Joker is very mysterious guy,we don't know anything about him,we only know origin of Joker but again no names, but here we have a lot,we know a lot about him, that takes away from mystery and myth.Second Joker is not about money or anything like that,he wants anarchy, nothing more nothing less,he wants to do whatever he wants, scene that showed this is in TDK when he burns all that money.Yes sometimes he will need money but only so he can buy some toys with it.Here Joker is just a gang member going crazy.Good movie, everything was good,my only problem was Joker but again he is not horrible or something like that but he aint real Mr.J.

Pure 80's popcorn action - John Carpenters Big Trouble In Little China is, and always will be, one of my favorite films. A tale of ancient Chinese curses, black magic and sorcerers based in 1980's San Francisco. Jack Burton (Kurt Russell) is a truck driver who, during a drive through China town to have a game of poker with an old friend, becomes caught up in a gang turf war. He soon meets the local sorcerer, Egg Shen. Burton, Shen, and a gang of good guys must fight their way through rival gangs, monsters and ninjas in order to save Burton's girlfriend from the clutches for and ancient Chinese demon.
The whole film is over the top, from the colorful characters and their outfits, to the sets - which are all adorned with some kind of neon tube lighting. The over the top cheesiness is what makes this film so good, it's a perfect mix of martial arts, comedy and action.

Looks like you're not a fan of neo-noir then. :(
I personally think the premise of the film is pretty great and it doesn't disappoint like many other high concept films do. It handles the subject matter in a very entertaining and mature way and the character development is not repressed because of it.
The "visuals" are subtle, but therefore not less powerful, in my opinion. The film has this soft, noirish look and it works really well combined with the story. The beautiful cinematography adds to the gritty, yet sophisticated atmosphere Fincher attempted to create in this film (and he definitely succeeded in my opinion).
Se7en is my second favorite Fincher flick (behind Fight Club) and I really think it deserves the praise it gets. OK, maybe it's not the 22nd best film of all time like IMDb says (the top 250 IMDb list has plenty of weird entries, though), but it's still a very effective first watch, because of its extremely involving murder mystery and the engaging interactions between the characters.
Too bad it didn't amaze you the way it does many other people, Rhys, but everyone has films of which they can't comprehend the popularity, so that's fine. ;)
Se7en is my second favorite Fincher after The Social Network.
I'll definitely give it another watch. I may have missed something. :p

Stir Crazy is another great film starring Gene Wilder and I liked it a lot. I thought it was funny and that's all it really needs to be. One of my favorite horror comic/graphic novel adaptions and one of the best vampire films of the last ten years. 30 Days of Night is a dark, atmospheric, horror thriller set in a remote Alaskan town which is plunged in darkness for 30 days every year during the winter months. It's during this month of darkness that a horde of vicious vampires arrive in town.
The heroic town sheriff (Josh Hartnett) and his tasty wife (Melissa George) must fight to save the towns folk from the razor toothed bloodsuckers.

Duel was a great, fun movie and has an exciting concept. I've seen the concept in a more recent film called Roadkill and enjoyed that too. This isn't a masterpiece or anything like that, but it's fun and entertaining which is only what it is trying to be.

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge does have an interesting concept, but it was executed badly and it really shouldn't have been used in this film. It goes against all the good stuff from the first movie which relied on the dream idea (which I thought was great). I assume it will go back to this in the third movie.

The Lego Movie is a fantastic animated film, and probably the best animated film I have ever seen. I haven't seen many of the highly respected 2D ones though. This film has a great message and plays on a lot of post-modern ideas and is very, very clever and is very re-watchable for both children and adults with fantastic visuals and voice acting. I'm excited for the sequel.

La Haine is a fantastic film which has beautiful visuals and a very compelling story. It uses some lighthearted humor which works well against the serious tone of the film, I think this adds to the realistic atmosphere of the film which is also backed up by the use of real footage. Top Secret is a good comedy movie with a lot of silly gags that did make me laugh at times. Some of the humor is very subtle and some of it clearly isn't which is what I like about the sorts of films. It comes from the makers of Airplane so if you have seen that but not this you'll know what to expect. It's not as good as Airplane though, in my opinion.

Night of The Living Dead is a very influential film. But did I enjoy it? No, not so much. It wasn't horrendous. The plot was good, it was predictable but I guess that is due to the knowledge we now have of zombie movies. I respect the film and George A. Romero for what he has created and that has reflected on my rating but in other circumstances this may have gone down worse.

The Wolf of Wall Street, what can I say about The Wolf of Wall Street? I don't know why exactly but films seem to appeal to me a heck of a lot more on a second watch. Every minute of this film was fun. Sure, it's very over the top, even though it's based on true events, but it's such an enjoyable watch. Fantastic acting, fantastically directed, it looks brilliant, its funny and dark at the same time, there's boobs, drugs and alcohol. What more could you want from a film? We even get DiCaprio. I'm so glad I watched this again because I feel I underrated it the first time. I know most of you will think I'm overrating this now, but oh well. I loved it. It's definitely a new favorite of mine.

Should have been rated NC-17 though.
Our UK classifications are easier. xD
R.
Of course, the much tamer Blue is the Warmest Color deserves an NC-17, because that has lesbians! The horror!
I haven't seen that yet actually. Is NC-17 worse than R then?
Yeah. NC-17 means no one under 17 is allowed to see it at all.
I actually liked The Wolf of Wall Street, but it's possibly the dirtiest movie I've ever seen.
Definitely the dirtiest non-porno...
There's nothing wrong with that. Though.
There's nothing wrong with it... I just think it's incredibly wrong to slap an NC-17 on Blue is the Warmest Color and let The Wolf of Wall Street off with an R just because it's Scorsese. I would so much rather a teenager see Blue is the Warmest Color than The Wolf of Wall Street. Don't even need to think about it.
The Gunslinger45
05-23-14, 05:21 PM
Swan has a very good point. While Blue is the Warmest Color is far more explicit in it's sex scenes, The Wolf of Wall Street is the more ADULT movie. Blue is the Warmest Color has sex scenes featuring two lesbians (and one straight sex scene in the beginning), but at the end of the day it is about the love life of two women.
The Wolf of Wall Street has sex, drugs, rock & roll, Ludes, Jonah Hill's prosthetic penis, white collar crime, generally degenerate behavior and swearing from opening scene to credits.
The Wolf of Wall Street was heavily edited down to get the R which I believe is the appropriate rating. But an NC-17 for Blue is the Warmest Color is the MPAA being full of it again.
I definitely see were you are coming from. I might watch Blue is the Warmest Color now actually.
Technically the TWO sex scenes in Blue is the Warmest Color are more explicit... but
1. They are part of a loving, caring relationship between two people. The sex in The Wolf of Wall Street is mostly (or all, I can't remember) careless sex, much of the time with prostitutes.
2.The sex in Blue is the Warmest Color looks unsimulated (it's NOT, as the makers have gone on record as saying), but the sex in The Wolf of Wall Street looks real too. You mean to tell me what DiCaprio was doing with the prostitute's ass in the beginning didn't look real?
Again, I have NOTHING against The Wolf of Wall Street. This has to do with the MPAA and their stupid effing decisions.

I actually liked The Wolf of Wall Street, but it's possibly the dirtiest movie I've ever seen.
Really?
I didn't find it all that bad, tbh. Mostly just a lot of boobs. Then again, I'm kind of a pervert so it takes a lot for me to classify something as "dirty."
I don't mean just in terms of nudity. There is a bit of nudity, but there's also a lot of drug use, swearing, careless sex, and crime. A LOT. The whole movie was about that stuff.
Are you saying it's not dirty? Haha.
That cocaine scene at the beginning? Hehe.
Anyway. I'm going to watch Blue.. :)

Meh, seems like a typical Scorsese movie to me, except for the relative lack of violence.
I agree that the MPAA seems to use no real logic in their ratings, but I don't see anything about this movie that makes it that much worse than other R-rated fare. I haven't seen Blue is the Warmest Color, so can't comment on that.
Maybe I should say it's the dirtiest movie in recent memory. There's probably something I'm forgetting, I haven't seen Goodfellas in a long time. But it was definitely the dirtiest film I saw last year.
Still, even if it's not the dirtiest film of all-time, it IS way dirtier than Blue is the Warmest Color.

Blue is The Warmest Colour is an incredible film. It has been beautifully shot and the plot is brilliant. The thing that really stands out though is the performance from the two actresses, especially from Adèle Exarchopoulos. I normally find it hard to spot a good performance in a foreign language speaking film but it really wasn't hard to spot how good these two are. They aren't just good, they're fantastic and I thought that Adèle's performance was one of the most breathtaking I have seen in a long time. I found this film be very raw, and real, it's hard to explain but I would definitely rank this as a masterpiece. A must watch.

Darth Maul had potential but they gave him only few scenes,he died so soon,if he died in eipisode II or III people would care,he was cool looking.Federation guys were really boring, when they talk nobody cares and even if someone cares it's so hard to listen...It had so much potential, plan was fantastic but movie was a disaster.

Ok,this is better, less "love" scenes, more Star Wars,I have only one problem with this movie,Anakin is really evil,I mean after this movie you can't say "ah in the end he was good..." you can't go back to good after doing what he did + would you really do all that stuff just to save your wife? I know he loves here and all but he did really horrible things...It was better then other 2,not as good as originals, true medium.
Verdict: 7.5/10
I agree with what you're saying about Episode 3. It's obviously better than the two turdy prequels that came before, but Anakin's turn to the darkside may have been taken too far.
The Younglings scene if i'm being specific
I don't think anyone deserves redemption after all that.
Yea,I'm glad we have same opinion about that. They took it too far, instead of watching good guy going bad we watched evil/twisted guy going even more evil.

Fantastic, perfect casting, good acting, wonderful story and action.Every scene is fun to watch, every time I watch original trilogy I notice new details and think how much time someone spent on making that little thing in the background.Force is a mystery, you want to see more.I hope J.J. can make it good again. It is really fun to watch Darth Vader, they show you good and bad guys, overall awesome movie.

Some pretty good special effects set pieces and Freddy Krueger's dark humor are the only things that make it watchable really, as the script and acting are garbage.

Bad Neighbors is very funny at times and was overall a fun watch but it wasn't anything special and although the majority was quite funny, some of the jokes really weren't funny at all. Some of the better ones made me laugh though and the majority of the cinema seemed to laugh at these better ones.

The Castle is extremely funny and heartwarming. The constant jokes were fantastic and the plot was pretty sweet too. I liked the characters a lot and the film worked fantastically as a whole. I wasn't expecting this to be quite as good and was. It definitely makes my top 10 favorite comedies.

Team America: World Police is a clever film, but I think a lot of the humor isn't funny at all. I think that some of it is too crude and offensive and isn't nessasary. However, a lot of it is very funny too. It's definitely very clever and some of the parodies/references in the film are great too. This isn't totally for me, but it was enjoyable for the most-part.

My friends also couldn't get into Team America for some reason. I think it's the fact that it's a puppet movie.
It's also pretty crude and really depends on a persons type of humor. I did not find the aids part funny at all.

I will repeat myself tomorrow but Thursday is the start of my first four day expedition(1 of 2 expeditions) for my Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award. This means I probably wont be on here during those 4 days due to network issues on my phone whilst I am far out in the field.
I will still be watching films, but this will be on my iPhone. I know this isn't deal but it will be the only way of keeping this challenge up. The films I will probably be watching during those 4 days are as follows.
Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs

Rango is visually the greatest animated film I have ever seen. The visuals are seriously amazing and the film is worth watching just to admire the visuals. However, did I enjoy it? No, not really. This wasn't my thing. I'm not a western fan though and to be honest if I had to pick a least favorite genre of film it would be westerns. They just don't seem to do much for me unfortunately.

I like films about magicians in the real world, but when you're trying to outsmart the audience, I think it should be done within the rules of the real world too. A few things about the film were clever, but the overall 'twist' didn't quite work for me.
