Airplane II: The Sequel - although not quite as good as the original this sequel still remains very funny. It used a lot of the same jokes from the first movie but the jokes still seem to remain funny and work very well. Some new jokes are also introduced. However even though we still have most of the original cast "Leslie Nielsen" doesn't join us again for the sequel which was unfortunate. Still a great movie.
My Rating: 7/10

I amended the rating for the original movie to an 8/10.

This is Spinal Tap (1984) - maybe I'm too young to understand this one. I really didn't find it funny apart from a few scenes and I didn't like the concept much either. However they did manage to capture the style very well and made the film believable.

I watched This Is Spinal Tap for the movie trade-off game. Here's my little mini-review of it.

This Is Spinal Tap

I knew Spinal Tap was well thought of by most, but a friend of mine with pretty similar taste had once explained to me his hatred of the movie. So, I pushed it further away from the top of my watchlist. I knew that someday I had to watch it. It was one of those films that had developed a strong enough following that I couldn't ignore it forever. The first thing I noticed was how natural the dialogue felt. It was certainly absurd, but it didn't seem out of the realm of possibility. It was funny, and yet it felt like a musician could really be saying the things they were saying. The improvisation of the actors was by far the best part of the movie. The story of their redemption, so to speak, was not that important to me. I just wanted to hear them have conversations with each other or be interviewed. That's what made it worthwhile. Each member of the band brought their own source of charisma, and it was a lot of fun. R.I.P. to the various drummers of the band. Also, look at the IMDB page for the movie. It goes to 11. However, I go to about 8.

Great review. I wasn't a fan of the movie of course but the things you said about the dialogue feeling natural was one of the things I liked about the movie. :)

I don't like it in hindsight as much as I did when I initially saw it, so I can certainly see why somebody might not like it.

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988) - a great film which remains funny throughout. It has a lot of memorable scenes and I even noticed a Double Indemnity spoof. I liked the way they used a film noir style voiceover at times too. Definitely worth a watch.

Waynes World (1992) - wow there was really something about this movie that drew me in straight away. I loved the characters and the story was executed well too. However, only a few of the jokes made me laugh. This doesn't make it a bad movie though. I still liked it a lot and really did have some very original concepts. I loved the ending(s).

Batman:Gotham Knight(2008,75min)

It was OK,decant movie,it shows what Batman was doing between Batman Begins and TDK,it is made from few chapters, first one is bad, second is epic and others are decant.Second chapter is just wonderful,I mean in that chapter you can see why are people scared of Batman, there is a scene in Arkham when he walks in fire with that epic look in his eyes, just awesome scene. But it ends on that chapter as I said others are not as good.

That's a ludicrously high number of movies. I tried to watch many movies in early 2013, when I had plenty of free time, I managed to watch about 150 movies in 100 days. Through the rest of the year the intensity decreased to about 10-15 movies a month (still a high number though).

Not really. That works out to an average of about 1.16 movies per day.

I started tracking my movie watching at the beginning of the year as well and I've watched movies 67 times in 2014 (some movies more than once). In that time, I've watched as many as five movies in a single day and gone as long as a week without watching any at all.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982) - I enjoyed this film but I didn't think it was brilliant. However this is probably because this film is a lot older than I am and it seems to be a film that holds a lot of nostalgic value for those who were alive and and around their teens at the time of its release. Nick and Norahs Infinite Playlist (2008) - this film was ok but it wasn't great. It was slightly funny at times for for the most part I found it a little bit silly. It's not a realistic film and the acting isn't outstanding but I did like the characters and I do like Cera as an actor quite a lot. It was enjoyable but also skippable.

The Godfather (1972) - my greatest fear of watching this film has become true. I didn't enjoy it. Not because it's a bad film. It's far from it. It's just I personally don't have an amazing attention span. I couldn't follow the story closely enough to understand a lot of the narrative and the accents sometimes put me off but it was the length that did it for me. The cast was pretty large and apart from the main cast I couldn't always keep up with the characters (in fact to be honest I sometimes had issues following some of the main cast). My dislike for this film isn't from the fault of the film but rather from myself. I will probably watch this film again someday and even watch the second and third installments but this will probably be a while from now. Also, despite me not liking the film I would will like to point out that the acting from Marlon Brando (I only know his name from iMDB) was outstanding and I have probably never seen acting as good as that in my life. The acting from the rest of the cast was brilliant too. I'm not going to give this film a rating because it would be unfair. My enjoyment rating was low but the film as a whole is obviously very good. I hope you understand what I am trying to get at here. Don't be hating me for it haha.

Dallas Buyers Club (2013) - Great film. Two well-deserved Oscars for Leto and McConaughey, they were both superb, and the films whole message was subtly conveyed and very poignant. I'm glad you liked Fargo as much as you did; I actually consider it a dark comedy, and one of the best ones at that.

Despite my love for Tarantino, I can't get into the Kill Bill movies. I'm really not even sure why. I want to say they're a bit silly for me, but how can that be if I love Death Proof? I should probably try watching them again.

The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009) - Flashy, fast-moving filming style that Tony Scott was well known for, but in this film it was a little over the top, I felt dizzy watching it. That along with a terrible script and dialogue - which included John Travolta saying "Mother****er!" about 50 times, at least!- pretty much sums this film up.

Hmm, yes it does have its moments but as a whole I personally thought it was fairly serious by that's just my opinion.

I'd recommend you do re-watch them because they're silly on purpose. He made them over the top because he loves violence and gore. But if you don't like that think you may not like it. (I'm studying Tarantino and the violence/gore in his movies right now for my film studies). :)

I love violent movies, I just like them to be somewhat realistic. For example, when Uma Thurman is fighting Vivica A. Fox, and Fox pauses to talk to her daughter; that ruins the scene for me. I understand what Tarantino is trying to do, and he does it brilliantly. I just have a hard time connecting with it.

Gone (2012) - Bloody stupid film. A women who was in a nuthouse a few years earlier for claiming she had been kidnapped, claims the same kidnapper has taken her sister, and a bunch of incompetent cops played by B-list actors just ignore her. Natural Born Killers (1994) - watching this film was another part of my research for my film studies study on Tarantino and the possible effects of violence in films and wow. This film ticks all the boxes "research-wise". However, I also liked it a lot. I thought that the crazy style was actually good and worked well. Definitely worth a watch even though it is a little creepy if you get what I mean.

Lone Survivor (2013) - one of the best war films I have ever seen. The story is incredible and intriguing and led me to look into it a little more after watching the film. The realism of some of the bullet wounds is also incredible and almost makes you believe you could be watching the real thing. However, the film really doesn't go anywhere when the operation is over, we don't see what happens next or him being awarded anything but this is fine because the purpose of the film is to also help remember those who died and not to focus too much on Mark Wahlberg whom is portraying Marcus Luttrell even though he is the "Lone Survivor". They kept the last 4-5 minutes or so to show real pictures and footage of those who died. I'd definitely recommend a watch.

I thought he was good in this movie but yeah, I didn't realise it was a remake until I watched and reviewed it. My enjoyment rating was still high for this movie but obviously the fact that they stole another movie completely voids it as a movie that should be given a high rating even if it was enjoyable. If you get what I mean? Anyway todays movie was awesome.

Donnie Darko: Directors Cut (2001) - this is my first ever watch of Donnie Darko and I thought that it was beyond great and it is possibly the best of its type that I have seen (mindbending). I understood a tiny bit of the film but most of it had to be verified by watching YouTube explanation videos. I understood that the engine came from 28 days in the future explaining why there was no explanation for it in the primary universe. But that was obvious. The rest of the film isn't too hard to understand once explained but for a first watch it was pretty mind blowing. I can't believe I waited this long to watch this movie.

Horrible, this is my fav fighting video game, but this movie is so bad...First,story was made in 30mins,at least it looks like that, acting is bad, actors are not even close to in game characters, they dont have personality, its just bad...And...Where the fu*k is King!?Maybe it is good he is not in this...

Back in 2002 RS was on the top, they were the kings,so how this happens? You have so much material for story and you ignore it,really are you that stupid...You ignored one of biggest twists in video game history,if you guys played rs1 you know what I mean...Just poor story, very pathetic, who said yes to this...I guess this is now happening to video games...If they followed RS1 it would be so epic, ofc they would need to make few changes but not like this...And let's not talk about characters,I mean who are these people?????I thought when you make movie based on video game you want to get money from fans,YOU CANT DO THAT BY REMOVING EVERY CHARACTER FROM VIDEO GAME!!!!!Acting is horrible,I dont give two ****s about who lives or who dies...I will give you example to how bad dialog in this movie is...This is a little part of dialog in video game(dialog in rs1 was bad,but game was so good everyone ignored it...)
Bary to Jill:You almost became Jill sandwich...This is wayyyyyyyyy better dialog then one in the movie...RS movie series is Batman and Robin of RS universe...This is my fav video game and this...this was horrible,it is good compared to other rs movies, but we dont have big standards there...I could talk on and on how bad this movie is but there is no need...
Verdict: 3/10

I am very glad that you enjoyed Donnie Darko, Rhys, it's a big favorite of mine. I am impressed with you guys keeping on, on my own little list, it isn't quite as impressive, but I have been keeping consistent:

Total Movies: 80
Total Run-Time: 7,768 minutes
Longest in a Day: February 16th (642 minutes)

I also keep a list on all the video-games that I have beaten this year, which isn't impressive at all.
Games Completed: X-Men Destiny, Assassin's Creed 2, Lollipop Chainsaw, Syndicate, Deadpool, Resident Evil Revelations, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, and The Amazing Spider-Man.

I am working on assembling all the books that I have read as well, but I haven't finished it yet, basically I have been saying "to hell with it," and letting my obsessive compulsive disorder take the reigns on a lot of things.

Kudos...

Actually, I find that very impressive. I watch a lot of movies, but it takes me weeks/months to complete a video game. My friends buy a game and rush through it. I prefer to take my time and explore the environments and do all the little side-quests, so a game that may take my friends a few days to beat will take me a month and a half. And video games are so damn expensive I'd rather try to extend the experience as long as possible anyway.

How was Lollipop Chainsaw? I know the reviews were subpar, but it looked like trashy fun to me.

Trashy fun practically summarizes it, a lot of humor and random shenanigans. I beat Lollipop Chainsaw in one sitting, whenever I rent video-games, I do it for only two-days over the weekend, so I try to burn through them quickly. This one took around six or seven hours.

Ok, maybe I'm not missing much. Maybe it is as simple as the obvious? Yes? No?

He's the man who overdosed his wife with insulin, she didn't die after being raped but he made himself forget what happened. The cop, Teddy, took a liking to Lenny as guided him to kill the man who raped his wife however not Lenny is trying to keep himself in need of something so he forgets that he killed the man so that he can still search for him. He ends up killing a drug dealer and makes himself believe that Teddy is the guy who he is after. Is that all?

Lenny kills Teddy at the beginning.

To be honest I can't remember who is who by names in this movie,I watched Memento few months ago.But I think this happens.

He killed his wife,he forgot,he starts looking for killer, that guy helps him, they find that guy in the first scene,he kills him, after that he starts following cop cuz he is mentally ill and he just needs to keep following people and cant accept that he killed his wife,so he will never remember, when he kills someone he will just forget and start all over again. That is how I see it.If I made mistake just tell me,I just woke up... :D

I watched the Good The Bad and The Ugly today and I was enjoying it for the first hour and a bit until I got myself a bit distracted with this forum. I found myself lost at some stages but by the last 40 minutes of the film I was watching without distraction again. This was a very similar reason to why I didn't enjoy the Godfather as much as I should have. I found myself a little lost in the middle so I watched a short 6 minute video on YouTube afterwards which shows clips in order to tell the main story. I filled in some of the blanks and now understand what happened in the middle but I still don't think I experienced the movie as well I could have had. I will watch this film again in the future and try not get as distracted. For now, I won't rate it. Don't hate me, my attention span can be bad sometimes.

The Basketball Diaries (1995) - I thought that this film was pretty great. The acting from DiCaprio was excellent. I still don't understand why he has never won an Oscar. This was a fantastic look at drug life and what it can do to a person after they become hooked. A must watch.

Paranormal Activity (2007) - I actually thought that this was pretty good. The acting was believable and the build up to the end worked pretty well. This is the first movie I have ever seen on Blu-Ray and maybe that helped me enjoy it a little more (seeing all the little details etc.). I didn't think it was fantastic but I think I will be watching some of the other additions to the franchise in the near future even though they do seen to get worse according to the iMDB ratings.

iLL Manors (2012, 121 mins) - this is one of those films that can be loved or hated. It doesn't show a true portrayal of London (it shows hardly any of the positives) but it does show real issues. These things do happen in real life but they don't normally entwine as closely they do in iLL Manors. Ben Drew did a good job here considering it is his debut film but the issues he is trying to expose seen to be made to look much worse than they actually are. However, even though this film has obvious faults I can't really express how much I actually like this film. I like Ben Drew a lot. Especially when he goes under the name "Plan B". I love his music and the fact that his music is in the film and used to tell the narrative helps make me enjoy the film a lot more than I normally would. It's definitely not one of the greatest films of all time, far from it but it makes my Top 10 as one of my favourites.

Marvin's Room (1996, 98 mins) - a good film with a great cast and story. We definitely see a lot of character development but I thought that the ending could have been a little better. Stuck in Love (2012, 97 mins) - a very good movie with a "Perks of Being a Wallflower" feel to it (and not just because Morgan Lerman is in it). I enjoyed it a lot and it brought up a lot of real issues that go on today in the real world but at times it seemed to go a little over the top at times (but not too much). The ending wasn't completely happy but it wasn't sad either which helps make the film feel more realistic and not too good to be true or too upsetting to change the overall feel of the film. But I admit, I would have liked to see a certain someone "turn up" to make it a completely happy ending. I'm not going to ruin the film for you though.

10th April 2014

The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938, 102 mins) - although really "not my thing" story wise I appreciated this film a lot. I won't be giving it a super high rating but that technically has nothing to do wit the film itself other than the fact I don't particularly like old england/medieval type films. However, the cinematography of this film is incredible, especially for it's time and I didn't even know colour film dated that far back and I assume the film cost a heck of a lot of money to produce back in 1938. The props and clothing were all visually appealing and helped to make the film more believable. If you're a fan of this type of film and you haven't seen this one I would definitely recommend it. Again, my rating is low only because the film subject just isn't my thing. I don't have many issues at all with the film itself. I just probably won't ever be watching it again.

I'm not sure if I watch enough movies to average at least 1 per day. While I do binge 3 movies a day for weeks on end, I also binge other things like video games and tabletop roleplaying that gets my movies a day average pretty low. It is a really cool agenda to set though and I like the added touch of keeping track and writing reviews.

I think something that could give an added benefit is keeping tabs, at least to some degree, on what genres and eras you have been watching so that you can develop a balance as you expand your horizons. Start requesting recommendations from genres, eras, countries, etc... that you haven't expanded very much into yet. Just a suggestion. All the best in your film studies.

Yeah, that's a great idea thank you! IMDb goes the eras and genres for me because I made a list there but It would be nice to tab a few more things. I might start doing that on the start of next month and slowly work my way back as well as keeping it updated. Thank You!

I'm glad you liked my suggestion. I like to keep lists of movies by actor, year, director, etc... but I often grow lazy on keeping track and so sometimes I forget about really great films I've seen.

Oh also, I don't know how you feel about animated films, but I could give you some recommendations in that area. Of course the vast majority of animated films are Japanese, but there are also some interesting gems among the non-Anime animated films.
