Film Trivia - Tom Hanks' immense likeability makes him seem like an obvious choice for the role but it was turned down by numerous actors before the role eventually found its way to him; and some of them are extremely surprising.

Hanks has a strong supporting cast here including Perkins, who had her first major film role here, John Heard as an antagonistic co-worker, Robert Loggia as his boss and Mercedes Ruehl as Josh's mother, who really scores in a lovely little scene where she and Billy share their feelings about missing....
