Has anyone heard this? Its fantastic! Real Trippy.
Does anyone know if they are gonna make a proper movie of it?
Not that old one...that wasnt based on the book at all!
Thanks

Coincidentally, I just finished reading the book and thought along the same lines. It would be cool if a new version that followed the book would be attempted, but someone already tried with The Time Machine, and look how poorly that did. So maybe it’s best to just read the book.

I'm not sure I agree. The Time Machine never scared the crap out of anyone when it was dictated across the air waves, but I think we all know that War of the Worlds scared some people so badly that they're still hiding in the basement with a baseball bat (okay, so my grandpa's a little eccentric!).

I think it would get a decent turn out even if the movie's script stank.

Orson Welles didn’t dictate it, but he did take the idea from it.

The book was written during the late 1800s when the height of technology was the steam engine and the idea of flight was a fanciful dream. The movie from the 1950s placed the timeframe to run concurrently with its own timeframe, and took drastic liberties with the original story.

If a new movie were to be true to the novel, the Martians ships would be 100’ tall with a tripod for legs. They would change death rays with an invisible heat ray, and it would have to show a mass evacuation of London, 6 million people strong while the Martians shot lethal gas at the evacuees. There are so many glaring differences between the 50s movie, the Orson Welles scare, and the novel. It would have to be treated with kid gloves and not incorporate comedians into the cast.

Premise: Abandoning original plans to have it set in modern Seattle, this film will now tell the novel's tale set in England, circa 1898, dealing with a wave of Martian invaders overcoming Victorian-era "technology"...

Old Premise: Moving the setting from 1890's England to early 21st century Seattle, this is the story of an invasion from Mars, by bizarre tripods and 10-story death machines (not shown in the 1953 George Pal version), spreading death, destruction and horror across the planet... (10/8/01) This approach is being abandoned, post-September 11th, 2001.
That sounds promising.

You should check it out... it's pretty awesome... Richard Burton narrates and Justin Hayward (Moody Blues) does vocals...

This should be a hell of a movie.

It's such a coincidence, I just finished the book, this thread was made, and I just saw the original at the library and picked it up to watch tomorrow.

you should really listen to it Slay. Its incredibly atmospheric and some of the songs are really catchy. it sounds cheesy buit its seriously is good to listen to. Is that the one with David Essex doing some of the songs Caitlyn? Becuase the one i have has the songs being interupted by Orson Well's narrating different parts of the book. Its very very good. Ive been trying to find my copy of it for a while.

Ever since reading the book and listening to the musical of it since i was younger i have always wanted a remake of the film that would be faithful to the book. Seeing an evacuation of London along the river Thames with the tripods screaming out across the river trying to get to everyone would be an incredible image on the big screen. Or the Preachers dream of the undergound city under London away from the Martians would be also be an awsome site. According to the IMDB.com, the remake has been set back to 06'. I really am looking forward to this.

Lol, yeah thats a great one. the one that really gives me the creeps is the instrumental with the silver container unscrewing. And then the song...

"The chances of anything coming from Mars, are a million to one they said. But the chances of anything coming from Mars are a million to one...But still....They COME!"

I thought the original movie was terrible...I should probably read the novel.

No its one book called War of the Worlds by H G Wells. It was written in the 19th century but it is one of the pioneering books of early Sci-Fi. this is really the book that a lot of sci-fi horror movies, comics and other stories drew their ideas from. its a great read, i highly reccomend it. We are also talking about a musical version of it. It was released with a load of songs in the late 70's early 80's as far a i know. Its great to listen to, perhaps a little cheesy but very atmospheric with cool music
