Directed by Alfonso Cuaron, the third movie in the Harry Potter series is going to hit screens 2004.

This time, the cast adds another of my favorite actors, Gary Oldman. (This is in addition to Alan Rickman amongst others). The Harry Potter series has a habit of casting my favorite actors in the roles I'd imagined them in. (Kenneth Branagh!)

Here is the cast list as it stands:

Daniel Radcliffe .... Harry Potter
Rupert Grint .... Ron Weasley
Emma Watson (II) .... Hermione Granger
Robbie Coltrane .... Hagrid
Alan Rickman .... Professor Snape
rest of cast listed alphabetically
David Bradley (IV) .... Argus Filch
Julie Christie .... Madam Rosmerta
John Cleese .... Nearly Headless Nick
Emily Dale .... Katie Bell
Warwick Davis .... Professor Flitwick
Alfred Enoch .... Dean Thomas
Tom Felton .... Draco Malfoy
Pam Ferris .... Aunt Marge
Dawn French .... The Fat Lady
Michael Gambon .... Albus Dumbledore
Richard Griffiths (I) .... Uncle Vernon
Robert Hardy (I) .... Cornelius Fudge
Joshua Herdman .... Gregory Goyle
Matthew Lewis (III) .... Neville Longbottom
Miriam Margolyes .... Professor Sprout
Harry Melling .... Dudley Dursley
Devon Murray .... Seamus Finnigan
Gary Oldman .... Sirius Black
James Phelps (I) .... Fred Weasley
Oliver Phelps .... George Weasley
Chris Rankin .... Percy Weasley
Fiona Shaw .... Aunt Petunia
Maggie Smith .... Professor McGonagall
Timothy Spall .... Peter Pettigrew
Leilah Sutherland .... Alicia Spinnet
Jim Tavaré .... Tom
Danielle Taylor .... Angelina Johnson
David Thewlis .... Professor Lupin
Julie Walters .... Mrs. Weasley
Jamie Waylett .... Vincent Crabbe
Paul Whitehouse .... Sir Cadogan
Mark Williams (I) .... Mr. Weasley
Bonnie Wright .... Ginny Weasley
Luke Youngblood .... Lee Jordan

Any thoughts?

Oooh, Oldman as Sirius Black is a nice choice. He'll be swell. Very nice choice indeed. (And I agree that Branaugh was a great choice too. Love his work.)

So, what are the Roman numerals for?? Am I missing something?

The Mad Prophet of the Movie Forums
Thats from IMDB. They try to be as proper with people's names so they won't mix them up, or so the searches can be narrowed down. It just so happens that those people are actually (for example) Emma Watson the second.

Gary Oldman is going to rule.

Another casting choice I'm very pleased with is that of:

David Thewlis .... Professor Lupin

Thewlis was very impressive in the movie Gangster No.1. He looks somewhat like a younger Alan Rickman. I like this casting choice A LOT.

Here is the first look at Oldman as Black (thanks to IGN.com!)

Any comments?

The Adventure Starts Here!
Looks more like Oldman as Oldman. What's the giveaway that his hair, etc., will look like that for Black? Just curious, since he looks more casual and less like he's in costume for a part.

The Mad Prophet of the Movie Forums
No. This is a brief glimpse at what is to come. This isn't how he's gonna be in the film. I believe in an early scene he is in that costume...but the rest is just casual. Check out the tattoos on his chest. It would appear that those are in the film.

But you are right. This is a very casual pic of Oldman. It is however a brief glimpse at Black (I'm looking forward to seeing what he is really gonna look like in the movie!)

Ant thoughts on the tattoos?

I don't like the tattoos. I always thought of Black as extremely dirty, not dirty and covered with meaning-less tattoos.

Yep; you forgot Remus Lupin. Though I can hardly blame you, with such a large cast.

Look closer, O brother of mine.

I'm looking forward to seeing this one. The dementors oughta be really good. I think a fan made a hoax picture of the dementors from a screenshot of two of the Nazgul! I get most of my news about Harry Potter in general at Muggle Net. Very informative site.

Yes. As much as Gary Oldman looks cool in this role, it isn't quite what I'd imagined. I always thought he'd be wearing dark dirty robes without glasses. Maybe the glasses are just something he wears, and the prisoner outfit is just a costume early on in the movie.

I'm sure he'll be great. My favorite actor in the role of my favorite Harry Potter character. Can this get any better?

It's probably a flashback or something while Sirius is telling his story in the Shrieking Shack.

The Mad Prophet of the Movie Forums
Thats cool then. Thanks for the website link too! It is much better than the one I used to visit.

Bruce Campbell Groupie
As long as Alan Rickman's in it I don't care. Although, Michael Gambon is a good choice to replace, Richard Harris(may he rest in peace).

The Mad Prophet of the Movie Forums
Yeah. Alan Rickman is awesome.

I wonder if they'll have Gambon try to sound like Harris....

Check out the brand-spanking new set pics! I found them at the moset realiable Harry Potter news site, Mugglenet.com. They're PERFECT! Hermione's definitely looks really different from the 2nd movie, but I love the new change. Grint's definitely a spitting image of Ron, and you can barely see Thewlis, but he still looks good.

The Mad Prophet of the Movie Forums
THEY LOOK WONDERFUL!

Gary Oldman is perfect!
