Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...
So, I was looking around my room and I thought 'You have a lot of really cool movies.' I also thought that I have one or two that I haven't watched that I got as gifts. So I decided that I am going to watch and review the entire collection. Starting tomorrow 4/1, (I will be home all day so I should be able to watch at least 2 plus some others that I watch by more nefarious means. ) I will begin my review. Enjoy!

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: F. Gary Gray
Year: 2003
Stars: Vin Diesel, Larenz Tate and Timothy Olyphant

So Vin plays Shawn Vetter in this one, a DEA agent who makes the biggest bust in his career at the expense of the Cartel. After that some guys come to his house to off him and end up killing his wife, thus inducing a killing rampage. Shawn is pissed and I can't say that I blame him. So Shawn, his partner (Tate), and a guy called Big Sexy start searching for who did it. Really a good movie! It had been a long time since I last watched it so it took me a little while to remember everything to the point of being a little surprised about who actually did it.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: Robert Lee
Year: 2006
Stars: Jeff Fahey, Erica Eleniak

The first of what will be many natural disaster/nature films in this collection. Welcome to sunny Miami where it's always warm, unless the ice age is starting again. A scientist at INTER SCI, David Koch is a BAMF. He discovers that the polarity of the Earth shifted and caused the Ice Age in one day, and it's happening again. So he gets to go down to Antartica for all his troubles, mostly cause his boss is a jerk. His mentor is already there, the weather starts to go bad and the next thing we see is him back in Miami fighting with his boss. He runs into his ex girlfriend, Bryn, who is now married to his college lab partner and they have a kid....awkward. This must have been a SyFy movie, there are even breaks in the movie to put commercials. This is the lowest budget natural disaster movie I have. You could tell that most of the snow was fake and the green screen scenes were painfully obvious.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: Stephen Sommers
Year: 2009
Stars: Channing Tatum, Marlon Wayans, Dennis Quaid

I figured I would go ahead an watch this one because I was going to watch the second one this evening. I'm glad that I rewatched! There were a lot of parts that I forgot about! The fight scene right after the opening where Cobra attacks is one of my favorite in the movie. It was done really well! The story all ties together nicely in a pretty little bow. It's always nice to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt, even if you couldn't tell that was who he was for most of the movie. The cheesy-ness is part of the charm of this movie for me.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: Charles S. Dutton
Year: 2004
Stars: Meg Ryan, Omar Epps, Tony Shalhoub

Interested in boxing from a young age, Jackies' (Meg Ryan) uncle Ray is the only one who believed in her. After she is grown she settles for a crap job so she can watch boxing free. She realizes that she wants more. She buys a boxers' contract for $1 from a jerk (Tony Shalhoub), who thinks she can't do what he does. Her boxer, Greene is addicted to crack. While she is at Greenes' house, she sees his drug dealer, Luther, beat him up. She bails Luther out of jail, with little to no gratitude. She hangs around long enough to get him to talk to her. Luther (Omar Epps) ends up being her fighter. He has a lot of work to do to be a high caliber gighter. She gets a team of trainers togehter and they start working and getting closer together as a team. Everything is working really well until someone gets too big for their britches.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: Harald Zwart
Year: 2003
Stars: Frankie Muniz, Hilary Duff, Angie Harmon

So the C.I.A. takes really smart kids and makes them agents. That actually explains a lot. We start off the movie with Cody on his way to school, of course that can't go as planned and he ends up saving a kid in a runaway car. Thus setting off the unbelieveable antics that make up this movie. The movie is hilariously over the top, with just the right amount of action. The actors do a decent job, given what they have to work with. I actually enjoy the cast in this one, in my opinion it was cast perfectly.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: Clint Eastwood
Year: 2003
Stars: Sean Penn, Kevin Bacon, Tim Robbins

We start out with the main characters as young boys playing hockey in the street. A guy pulls up acting like a police officer, he says he will drive one of the boys (Dave) home, he doesn’t take him home. He manages to escape after a while and gets back home. Flash forward to when they are all adults. Dave (Tim Robbins) is walking his son home, and when they walk across his old street he has flashbacks. Jimmy (Sean Penn) runs a corner store and has a family of his own. He has a beautiful teenage daughter, Katie (Emmy Rossum). Sean (Kevin Bacon) is a cop. Anyway, Katie ends up at a bar where Dave is, he comes home with blood all over him and says he got mugged. His story doesn’t add up. Katie disappears. When her car is found all the commotion brings Jimmy in, he sees her car. He starts his own investigation. This is a really great movie! It has the perfect cast and an amazing story. The emotions in this movie are not matched by many.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: Steven Spielberg
Year: 2005
Stars: Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Justin Chatwin

After the world is attacked by aliens, Ray Ferrier(Cruise) and his two kids, Robbie and Rachel (Chatwin and Fanning) find a car that still works and take off to try to find out if the kids mom and step dad are alright and find a safe place. A lot of interesting effects later and the good guys win. This movie was really good, given everything that could have gone wrong. I give all the credit to Spielburg and the majority of the cast. The kids were cast perfectly, I would have tried to go a different direction with the lead (of course everyone knows how I feel about Cruise). The alien crafts were done really well and all the noises that they make were effectively creepy.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: John Irvin
Year: 1989
Stars: Patrick Swayze, Liam Neeson, Bill Paxton

Truman Gates(Swayze) left his home in the hills of Kentucky to pursue a career in law enforcement in Chicago. His little brother Gerald (Paxton) left to come to Chicago to drive trucks, after losing his job at the coal mines. When Gerald is murdered Briar (Neeson), the other brother, insists on a blood feud but Truman tells them to let the law handle it. Briar comes looking anyways, making things difficult. They end up killing Briar as well, pissing Truman off royally. Blood feud it is. The family comes and helps him out. I love this movie! I have loved it since the first time I watched it as a young teenager. I really enjoy the story and I thought that it was cast really well.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: Mikael Hafstrom
Year: 2007
Stars: John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson

This is a really cool movie. I love scary movies. While this one didn’t particularly scare me, I enjoyed it. Mike Enslin (Cusack) is a writer of books about haunted places. His latest book about haunted hotel rooms brings him to The Dolphin hotel in New York to room 1408, where no one has lasted for more than 1 hour and they don’t even bother to try and rent it out anymore. The manager of the hotel (Jackson) tries to talk him out of staying in the room but he won’t listen, he even goes so far as to try and bribe him with facts about the room and an expensive bottle of liquor. After being in the room for a little while he starts to experience different supernatural events, including the window slamming on his hand, the desk clerk calling about food he didn’t order and he sees some of the rooms past victims and some of his family as well, particularly his daughter. He tries to get out of the room but no matter what he does he can’t get out. Anyway, it makes me wonder if the room was actually haunted or if the liquor was drugged or something. I know there was ‘proof’ one way or the other at the end of the movie but I still wonder. I mean, what if they staged the entire thing and just got him really drunk.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: James Wan
Year: 2011
Stars: Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne

The only thing that really bothered me about this movie, other than the ending (which I now know there will be a second so it doesn't bother me) was the freakin 'monster'. They did such a good job with all of the ghosts and even the effects to drop the ball on the main baddy. I enjoyed the cast of this movie and the story was decent, I wish that they had gone more in depth with the familys' past but maybe they will do that in the sequel.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: Tony Kaye
Year: 1998
Stars: Edward Norton, Edward Furlong

The acting chops of Edward Norton and Furlong really shine in this movie. I love this movies on an entirely different level than any other. The cast was perfect, the story was both intriguing and entertaining, the whole package really as far as movies go. This is the most masterfully directed and produced movie ever. I love how everything ties together so fluidly.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...

Directed: Renny Harlin
Year: 2006
Stars: Steven Strait, Taylor Kitsch, Chase Crawford

The story of the 'Sons of Ipswich' is told in this movie. Granted they are completely fabricated but it makes for good watching, mostly for people like me who really enjoy teenage movies. Anyway, I like the story, the characters, and even the acting, although it was a little stiff at times. The ending is extremely fun!

We've gone on holiday by mistake
