Going French

Ok new to forum, just looking for opinions on a few films I've watched recently. If anyone has seen them comments and opinions are welcome.

Martyrs
Inside/ a l'interieur
Switchblade romance/ Haute tension

Switchblade Romance is a real disappointment. Horrible ending that's so bad, it manages to ruin the rest of the film and how you think of it. I'd only recommend it to Stephen King fans, seeing as they're used to crappy endings.

Man, oh, man do I HATE Haute Tension. If you do a search on the site, you'll find a couple threads on it.

High Tension is a great flick until the stupid twist is revealed, which knocks it down a lot. It's a twist that just doesn't make sense, so it's not a surprise as much as it is an eye roll.

Martyrs is a tough film to watch. I would consider myself desensitized to violence and horrors, but I still had trouble with this one. No other film has really made me feel as emotionally drained as this. The images, the sounds and the emotions in this film are very disturbing and hard to watch. Now, I hope people don't go into this movie with expectations to be grossed out and watch something sick, cause this flick is not A Serbian Film.

The film has no hope for it's characters. I usually hate films like this because it makes the point of watching it almost mute. Why should I care about these characters when I know the journey they are going on will end in a horrible mess. For some odd reason though, this film felt a little different. I suppose this is why I don't throw it into the same torture porn horror field as the Hostels and Saw films in this world.

I felt helpless while watching it. I wanted the characters to do so many things to get them out of their situations, but it never happened and I knew it never would. The explanation at the end of it all is a bit out there in terms of believability. But the ending is left to the viewers imagination. My take on it is that the human mind cannot fathom the truth of what they seek. Which is why it ends the way it does.

Suspect's Reviews

Thanks for the replies. I actually really liked HIGH TENSION. I know the twist ad been done before, but I bought the dvd without knowing anything about it, I read a few reviews but didn't read the spoliers, so enjoyed the twist and didn't see it coming.

Martyrs on the other hand left me absolutely numb an drained more so as I could not take my eyes off the tv the whole time. I watched it with my girlfriend (not best way to enjoy a quiet night in). She enjoyed the first half then kind of struggled understanding what was going on in the second half, as she kept asking me questions. I suppose it might be better if you did not understand fully what was playing out in the second half. I didn't think it could get any worse but it did and the final act on Anna having her skin removed made me want to cry, and that as never happens in a film of that genre ever. I watched it in November last year an that image still stays with me. I got the ending or what I thought it ment, as to watching it again to see if I really understood it, I don't think I would watch it again in the bear future, once is enough for now.

It's a fantastic horrific thought provoking sad film. Showing how a good horror film should be made. My next one to watch is, The Ordeal and sheitan.
