Do these tend have much similarities with the Oscar results?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Last year most of the critics groups picked No Country for Old Men for Picture and Daniel-Day Lewis for Best Actor, but last year was easy to pick a bunch of the biggies. This year I very much doubt you'll see Mike Leigh win the Oscar for Best Director, for example, no matter how many of the critics award it. He's probably in line for a nomination, though. You can usually piece out most of the Oscar nominees from the critics picks, but winners is a different thing.

Yeah, I'm a little surprised to see Happy go lucky get so many nods. I mean I loved the film, but it's not exactly Oscar material, and it's definitely not on the same level as Naked or All or nothing.

No, I agree. It's a good movie, but not on the top tier of Mike Leigh's very best work, no. Of course it's probably more accessible to a mass audience and potential Oscar voters than something as caustic as Naked, so it may be the one of his that breaks him through a little farther into the mainstream in the U.S. And while Leigh hasn't won any Oscars, he has been nominated for a bunch. Five personally; three screenplay and two for Best Director (Secret & Lies & Vera Drake).

I liked it yeah. Pretty sure it's not your thang though...:\..God bless..Good luck

Sweet, I'll use this as an index for the films I should see in the future. It looks like Slumdog Millionaire is going on top of the list for me to watch.

Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

I have a question for those in the know...

Why are several of the foreign film selections from 2007? Are they always like that?
