Films You Hate, But Everyone Else Loves

Welcome to the human race...
I thought most people hated Transformers
Two words - vocal minority. If most people hated Transformers then it and its three sequels wouldn't have made billions of dollars worldwide.

I don't even know what a 'Transformer' is? I suspect it's a superhero movie of some sort? Then I already don't like it.
Transformers is a movie based on a toy line of cars that transformed into robots. It's pretty notorious for being an absolutely horrible adaption that takes a children's property and makes it into an inappropriate action flick.

Just because you pay for a ticket, it doesn't mean you'll come out liking it, so the numbers don't mean much. Parents can't take their kids to most films, so they get counted with the children to see these types of films. And there are a lot of adults who want to relive their youth.

That explains the first one well enough, but then there's the matter of the sequel being successful enough to generate more sequels. Fool me once, etc.

Wasn't it discussed yesterday how the newest part of a series always makes the most money? Surely, everyone who say "Part 7" didn't necessarily see every single preceding film.

Here are the highest grossing films. Making money doesn't mean they are great pictures. And most of the greatest pictures ever either didn't make money, or lost money.

for it would be man of steel and amazing spider man, i just hate them and i only like classic movies of these heroes.

For months, I have been bombarded with glowing reviews for a new "horror" film that I just "have to see". Being the "horror guy" amongst my peers, they were sure that my mind would be blown by this wonderful film. So I made some popcorn, opened a beer and got comfortable before pressing play on... The Babadook.

...go on?

Isn't it? I've not seen The Babadook, but isn't that what usually happens with films where the creature/monster/entity isn't shown and is then revealed? This even happens in Jaws.

Welcome to the human race...
I hated it (hence its inclusion in this thread).

It is not a good sign that the film became less and less engaging after the "creature" appears.
Well, the fact that you hated it was clear enough, I was just hoping for an explanation. I actually liked The Babadook but I can also see why the film does lose a little of its edge once it reveals the creature. I still thought the rest of the film was solid enough to compensate for such a flaw.

Trust me, many of my friends whose opinion of films I respect have vouched for the movie. This is one of those films where I just don't see what there is to love about it. The The Exorcist meets Stir of Echoes gimmick led no where and, unlike in those films, I never felt any danger. The idea of keeping things hidden from the audience is perfectly fine if you lay the suspense on real thick (such as I saw in It Follows) but that never happened.

Here are some movies that Roger Ebert hates but everyone else loves.

Pretty interesting list. Surprised to see Dead Poet's Society on there.

The only movie on that list that I've seen is Dead Poet's Society, and I love it, but nothing else on that list even interests me.
