Top Ten Movies of the 70's

Tools

The 1970's is one of my favourite decades of cinema. I have so many favourites from this era that i have found it difficult to assemble a top 10. I could quite easily formulate a top 20 and the list would still remain full of favourites of mine.

1. Taxi Driver (Scorsese, 1976)

2. The Godfather Part I & II (Coppola, 1972, 74)

3. Chinatown (Polanski, 1974)

4. Apocalypse Now (Coppola, 1979)

5. All The Presidents Men (Parkin, 1976)

6. Deliverance (Boorman, 1972)

7. The Deer Hunter (Cimino, 1978)

8. One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest
(Forman, 1975)

9. Badlands
(Malick, 1973)

10.
Sleuth (Mankievicz, 1972)

Chappie doesn't like the real world
There are a lot of great 70's movies, and I need to see a lot more.

This list would probably change if I thought about it more, but for now.

1) Cabaret

2) The Deer Hunter

3) Jaws

4) Fiddler on the Roof

5) Charlotte's Web

6) Norma Rae

7)Paper Moon

8)Close Encounters

9)Dawn of the Dead

10)Taxi Driver

There are only about 15 films I've seen from the 70's though - not that I'm hyped up to see any more.

1. Star Wars

2. The Godfather

3. Apacolypse Now

4. Blazing Saddles

5. A Clockwork Orange

6. Godfather Part 2

7. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

8. Taxi Driver

9. The Warriors

10. Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Top Ten movies of the '70s

So, in the future, please use the SEARCH feature before starting threads of this nature because 9 times out of 10... someone else beat you to it. Anyway, I'm going to let this one stay open for now but may eventually merge the two threads together.

Many people consider the 70s the high point of Hollywood film, but really, only American films so far?
(I apologize for this comment since I didn't even suggest any films myself yet, that is because I am busy).

I had done something similar about 8 months ago, but now a top 10 list that shows up in my head is as follows:

1. Stalker (Tarkovsky)

2. Apocalypse Now (Coppola)

3. The Mirror (Tarkovsky)

4. Mirai Shōnen Konan (Miyazaki)

5. Star Wars (Lucas)

6. Barry Lyndon (Kubrick)

7. Dersu Uzala (Kurosawa)

8. Solaris (Tarkovsky)

9. The Godfather I & II (Coppola)

10. Taxi Driver (Scorsese)

And, I had forgotten this masterpiece:

Aguirre: the Wrath of God (Herzog)

I would rank it alongside Dersu Uzala.

My top 10-

1) Taxi Driver
2) A Clockwork Orange
3) Chinatown
4) The Warriors
5) The Deer Hunter
6) Animal House
7) Saturday Night Fever
8) The Godfather
9) One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
10) The Exorcist

My least favorite decade in absolute terms. Maybe I made bad picks or maybe I just don't click with its major themes. Whatever. The top10 is still great:

1. One flew over the cuckoo's nest
2. Monty Python's Life of Brian
3. A clockwork orange
4. Alien
5. The Godfather
6. Apocalypse Now
7. The man who would be king
8. Scenes from a marriage
9. The chess players
10. Suspiria

Honorable mentions: Mirror (Zerkalo) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Sorry if I'm rude but I'm right

Look, I'm not judging you - after all, I'm posting here myself, but maybe, just maybe, if you spent less time here and more time watching films, maybe, and I stress, maybe your taste would be of some value. Just a thought, ya know.

For me the 70s is the second best decade for movies. When we get around to doing a top 100 countdown it will be really hard to pick a winner due to the amount of quality.

My Top 10

1. Taxi Driver
2. A Woman Under the Influence
3. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
4. The Godfather Part II
5. Dog Day Afternoon
6. The Godfather
7. Apocalypse Now
8. The Deer Hunter
9. Star Wars
10. Cries & Whispers

The 70's is my favorite decade of cinema too and narrowing it down to 10 films is going to be pretty difficult but here goes:

THE EXORCIST

THE GODFATHER

ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST

NETWORK

CABARET

THE STING

KRAMER VS KRAMER

TAXI DRIVER

THE CONVERSATION

NASHVILLE

I put a Japanese film on my Top 10:
[QOUTE=TheGCritic] 7. Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla [/QOUTE]
Ok, it originated in Japan before coming to the U.S.A, but still.

My top 10 would be something like that

A Clockwork Orange

Network
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Apocalypse Now
Chinatown
Star Wars
Jeremiah Johnson
Jaws
The Godfather
The Godfather Part II
The Sting
