The greatest album from 1975 you've never listened to? The eponymous debut of Crack the Sky. It was named Best Debut Album of the year by Rolling Stone Magazine. It is a Prog Rock classic. They are local legends in this area but never quite ever broke through to the mainstream. They made some very good music, and are still together and recording, but that first album is fantastic.

Out of ones not yet mentioned, I'm a big fan of Mahavishnu Orchestra's Visions of the Emerald Beyond. Not as ferocious as the original lineup, but the introduction of funkier textures is most welcome. (It was a funky year indeed, even outside the genre.)

It's also the year that Fela Kuti put out Confusion, which might his band at the peak of their powers. Absolutely commanding stuff.

And say what you will about Kiss, Alive! shows them most thrillingly in their element.

Indeed. More funky stuff from '75---

Fire on the Bayou - The Meters
Al Green is Love
Evening Star - Fripp & Eno
Oops, might have to rejig my top 10

Landed is one of Cans weakest albums, but it is still a Can album and so worthwhile

I could say the same for John Cales Slow Dazzle. Not his best, but still pretty good

And Richard and Linda Thompson's Hokey Pokey.

Prog, eh? I'll definitely check it out.... Been looking for mostly female vocalists in 70s prog bands in general

Thanks!

That's from their 1974 album, Nightbirds. Labelle's 1975 record, Phoenix, is ok but not as good as that one.

Good call, but Fela is so hard to fit on these lists. I think he put out 30 records between 1974 and 1978, and they're all pretty much fantastic. He Miss Road from 1975 is great as well.

I don't think it's too bad, maybe a little more commercial sounding.

I've been missing a lot of German records because I don't have a reliable reference for release dates, so I'll have to look them up each, and that's time. I will say that Neu '75 is an obvious one.

All of this talk of funk, and I forgot the Ohio Players' Honey.

I like this! Thanks for sharing. I'm surprised I've never heard of it. I wonder if Mastodon's album Crack the Skye is a tribute to them.

Some other good albums from this year that haven't been mentioned yet:

Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
Klaus Schulze - Timewind
Manuel Göttsching - Inventions for Electric Guitar
Rainbow - (Self-Titled)
Tangerine Dream - Ricochet
