Rock

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, "I Should Have Known It" (though you could insert any Petty song here, I just chose this because it's new and I'm obsessed with it)

Fleetwood Mac, "Go Insane" (actually this is a live version of a Lindsey Buckingham solo song, from the band's reunion album The Dance)

Eric Clapton, "Run Back To Your Side" (another one I love almost universally. This is a new song that I'm addicted to)

Bob Seger, "Wait For Me" (any of his songs would do as well)

Warren Zevon, "Prison Grove" (any of his songs would do as well, but I've been hooked on this one recently)

Blues (though much of this is blues rock rather than straight up blues)

Jonny Lang "Walking Away" (though really anything from Wander This World, that album is amazing)

Cream, "Sunshine of Your Love"

Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, "Need Your Love So Bad"

Samuel L. Jackson's "Stack O Lee" from Black Snake Moan

Alternative (Not sure how this is even defined, but whatever)

Depeche Mode, "Enjoy the Silence"

Stabbing Westward, "Shame"

Nirvana, "Where Did You Sleep Last Night"

Live, "Lakini's Juice" (Also love everything they've done, but I've been hooked on this one recently)

Modest Mouse, "Float On"

Country (can't find videos, so just listing them)

Dwight Yoakam "Thinking About Leaving"
Bekka & Billy "Better Days"
Montgomery Gentry "Lonely and Gone"
Little Big Town with Lindsey Buckingham (Crossroads special) "Bring It On Home"
Johnny Cash "Folsom Prison Blues"

Savage Garden, "Truly Madly Deeply"

Rap/Hip Hop

Everlast, "What It's Like" (probably doesn't belong here, but whatever)

Everlast, "What It's Like" (probably doesn't belong here, but whatever)

I had a very hard time deciding on the 4th and 5th ones I posted under Rock... and have thought about editing my choices several times so I could add this one because I love the words so much... so, doesn't matter to me which category you put it under... cool choice...

This is really happening
Alrighty. List changes daily, and as I'm not too familiar with some of these genres, I'll make a list of the ones I consider genres. One song per artist

Rock:
A Day in the Life by The Beatles
Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones
Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
Won't Get Fooled Again by The Who
Hotel California by Eagles

Metal:
Master of Puppets by Metallica
The Leper Affinity by Opeth
The Czar by Mastodon
March of Mephisto by Kamelot
King of Those Who Know by Cynic

Alt Rock:
There, There by Radiohead
Cassandra Gemini by The Mars Volta
Art is Hard by Cursive
The Mob Goes Wild by Clutch
Limousine by Brand New

Indie:
Rebellion (Lies) by Arcade Fire
Mistaken for Strangers by The National
Summertime Clothes by Animal Collective
I Summon You by Spoon
A More Perfect Union by Titus Andronicus

Folk:
Alameda by Elliott Smith
Oh, Comely by Neutral Milk Hotel
This Year by The Mountain Goats
Skinny Love by Bon Iver
Love Ire & Song by Frank Turner

(indie) Pop:
All the Pretty Girls by fun.
New Slang by The Shins
Sun Hands by Local Natives
Champagne Supernova by Oasis
Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People

I don't know much classical and jazz, and I really hate rap and country

Yeah I love that song. I struggled with where to put it. I'd already booted Live to the "Alternative" section to make room for all the artists I posted and I'd already had to omit Stone Temple Pilots' "Big Bang Baby" from "Alternative" to make room for Live. So I figured I'd stick it in Rap/Hip Hop because that's where Everlast's roots are and much of the rest of the album is more in line with that genre, even though the song itself is more rock. Plus I was struggling to come up with anything to put there.

Rock:
Gimme Shelter by The Rolling Stones
Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
I'm not familiar with most of your choices, but major plus rep for these two.

Thanks

A lot of the other stuff is more indie/alternative, which is pretty much what I listen to. I generally despise everything on the radio these days, however there's an entire world of alternative and indie music that the average person never gets to hear unless they go looking for it

Country

I'm not the biggest country fan but I do like these...

Ring of Fire ~ Johnny Cash

Seminole Wind ~ John Anderson

Ghost Riders in the Sky ~ The Highwaymen

Let it Go ~ Tim McGraw

The Dance ~ Garth Brooks

And.... I'm gonna add this category.... yeah, yeah, I'm cheating just a tad but wasn't sure where any of these songs would fit into any of the listed categories... so...

Native American

Ghost Dance ~ Robbie Robertson

Yeha Noha ~ Sacred Spirit featuring Cree Elder Kee Chee Jake

Ly o Lay Ale Loya ~ Sacred Spirit

Cherokee Morning Song ~ Rita Coolidge and Robbie Robertson

Mahk Jchi ~ Ulali
