Cover Band Song Suggestions

I See You When You're Sleeping
Basically, I'm in a Cover Band who've just got together. We've clubbed together for a PA and are trying out songs to see what kind of set we can get together.

I'm looking for suggestions on numbers you'd like to hear when you're out drinking in a pub. I'm not really looking for Radiohead type suggestions as I don't think they'd click well with the general loutish public. We're going for a Beatles-ish type rock band with a dash of modern tunes to get people dancing. In fact, getting the girls dancing is a prime objective!

Here's some numbers we do already...

01 - LUST FOR LIFE - IGGY POP
02 - TEENAGE KICKS - THE UNDERTONES
03 - MONEY - BEATLES
04 - TAKE YOUR MAMA - SCISSOR SISTERS
05 - DON'T LET ME DOWN - BEATLES
06 - BROWN EYED GIRL - VAN MORRISON
07 - SUPERSTITION - STEVIE WONDER
08 - I FEEL FINE - BEATLES
09 - TAKE ME OUT - FRANZ FERDINAND
10 - BALLAD OF JOHN & YOKO - BEATLES
11 - CHILDREN OF THE REV - T-REX
12 - LAST NITE - THE STROKES
13 - SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO - THE CLASH
14 - YOU CAN'T DO THAT - BEATLES
15 - SUB HOMESICK BLUES - BOB DYLAN
16 - TEENAGE DIRTBAG - WHEATUS
17 - TICKET TO RIDE - BEATLES
18 - I SAW HER STANDING THERE
19 - SUSPICIOUS MINDS - ELVIS
20 - BURNING LOVE - ELVIS
21 - ONE AFTER 909 - BEATLES
22 - YOU REALLY GOT ME - KINKS
23 - JUMPING JACK FLASH - ROLLING STONES
24 - SEX MACHINE - JAMES BROWN
25 - JOHNNY BE GOODE - CHUCK BERRY
26 - MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE - THE POLICE

So people, any ideas?

thanks....

You've got a solid bunch of crowd-pleasers there already.

Everything that's coming into my head is a bit too obscure or reggae-ish (just been playing along to Toots and the Maytals ).

I thought of that one, but then figured it might put the girls off (or cause embarrassing requests for drugs in the toilets )

"House of the rising Sun", anything by Eric and the Animals

I See You When You're Sleeping
Some fantastic choices there peeps. I especially liked Pidds choices, they tie more in with stuff I like

Cait, We've been thinking of doing 'Let's Dance' for a while now but don't know how to go about it without using a keyboard to play the synth parts.

I See You When You're Sleeping

02 - Parklife - blur
03 - Born to Be Wild - Steppenwolf
04 - This Charming Man - The Smiths
05 - Sunshine Of Your Love - Cream
06 - I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor - The Arctic Monkeys

I love that song. It was my first Smiths choice but then I thought it might be harder to pull off than for instance "Bigmouth". I played it on a wedding (the original) and people danced like hell to it.

I See You When You're Sleeping
I was thinking it could be hard to pull of but it's probably the most well known out of the Smiths catalogue, well apart from 'Panic'.

It's just a bass and guitar combo. I think I know the riff already.

*mini runs for guitar and plays the munsters theme instead*

I got for good luck my black tooth.
"Blinded by the Light" - Bruce Springsteen
"Heartbreaker" > "Livin' Lovin' Maid" - Led Zeppelin
"I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" - The Ramones (one for the girls maybe. It's sweet without an ounce of irony.)
"Under Pressure" - David Bowie
"Judy Is A Punk" - The Ramones
"Friday I'm In Love" - The Cure
"Stray Cat Blues" - The Rolling Stones
"Young Americans" - David Bowie
"Revolution Rock" - The Clash
"Jailhouse" - Sublime
"Santeria" - Sublime
"There is a Light That Never Goes Out" - The Smiths
"Sweet Jane" - The Velvet Underground

Yeah, that'sa fantastic track! Great album too. I don't know if the rest of the band would agree though.

Strummer, 'Under Pressure' is good idea!

Ah good idea, I was thinking 'Fools Gold' or 'I am the Resurrection' for the stones track.

I'd love to do 'Geno' but we're only using guitars!

I'd love to hear someone doing the 9 minute version of Fool's Gold, one of the few records that makes me feel like dancin' (not Ted).

Hehe, I thought after I posted that Geno would be a bit useless without a full horns section (or a keyboard, which we used to use for the Aldi version).

If you do Teenage Kicks, what about Jimmy Jimmy, Here Comes The Summer or My Perfect Cousin?
