"Excited" is not a strong word enough... I consider the World Cup to be the most ..eh.. exciting sports event in the world, even better than the Olympics in some ways.
Great thread this one, Eq!
During the last European and World cups a friend of mine has organized a so called World Cup Pool (?). Don't know the correct English term here... We're like a hundred guys who all pay a small sum of money and then we predict ALL the results in the 1st stage matches, which the last 16 will be, the quarter finalists, the semi finalists, the finalists, the winner, the runner up, the bronze medalists, the bronze runner up, the All Star Team, the top goal scorers and so on and so on... Then you collect points all the way through the Cup and the winner get some money. I have mine in an Excel document but I don't know how to put it up on here. Would love to hear your YAYS and BOOS about it...
In short... Brazil beats Spain in the final. England steals the bronze from Argentina. Sweden goes through to the 2nd stage but falls against Germany. Sensations: Croatia, Ukraine and Spain. Dissapointments: Italy (as usual), France and the African teams. Questions?

They had temporarily escaped the factories, the warehouses, the slaughterhouses, the car washes - they'd be back in captivity the next day but now they were out - they were wild with freedom. They weren't thinking about the slavery of poverty. Or the slavery of welfare and food stamps. The rest of us would be all right until the poor learned how to make atom bombs in their basements.
