Since I've listed my alltime favorite movie(s) here on a number of different occasions, and because my top ten favorites are on my profile here, I've decided to just to tell what kind of movies are my specialty.
I've always been one that likes movies with a great deal of action in them. Movies that're too slow are not movies that I care for much. Nor do I care for movies that're overly gory, violent or graphic. However, I'm more than willing to tolerate a certain amount of the above-mentioned, however, if a movie's not absolutely and totally saturated with them. Once in awhile, I enjoy seeing a documentary film or whatever about any kind of world events or historical events that catch my interest. Although I've seen occasional movies from Asia that've been interesting, movies from the third world, especially places such as Africa and the Muslim middle east are not films that are of interest to me, especially after the horrific 9/11 attacks on NYC's WTC Towers.
However, back to the subject at hand: Movies that have a whole combination of action, violence, gentleness, romance, humour, exuberance, tensions, sadness and wit are movies that appeal to me the most. Movies where people are always doing something are movies that're cool too. Given today's political climate, however, I've come to mainly prefer movies that I consider somewhat more distant from today's political climate, because I figure I can always read the papers, get the news on other internet forums, or occasionally watch the news on TV (this last latter I haven't done much of since 9/11). Movies that're fiction but closer to reality (West Side Story and some other films come to mind here) are also movies that're appealing to me.
