One of my favorites that is about both writing and writers (as opposed to simply featuring characters who happen to be writers): Starting Out in the Evening.

Frank Langella has always seemed an awkward character on screen to me. But he's perfect as an aging writer who has outlived his early fame. Lauren Ambrose is also excellent as the grad student who's smart and motivated and so completely self-absorbed. And Lili Taylor ... wow, she's so vulnerable and wounded in this movie you feel a sense of dread for her every time she's on screen.
