Best Motion Picture – Drama
“Black Panther” - The only reason this is nominated for Best Picture is for political reasons. Let's face it, the movie was overrated, and the only reason it is being highly praised is because of its subject matter. Black empowerment.
“BlacKkKlansman” - Now this is a film about Black Empowerment that is definitely Best Picture award worthy. I was expecting it to get top award accolades. Will it win, likely not. But still good to get the recognition.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” - This was the surprise hit of the year. I loved it. Happy to see it being recognized so highly considering how many critics hated it.
“If Beale Streat Could Talk”- Haven't seen this yet. No comment.
“A Star Is Born” - This is the best movie of the year by far. It SHOULD and WILL win.

Hardy-har. I wonder if it's because the "drama" category is inherently more respectable or if they really wanted to free up some comedy slots.

I have never heard of any of the Best Television Drama nominees...I guess the two nominations for Murphy Brown might have had something to do with them re-thinking their cancelling the show. The Good Place? Really? Debra Messing for Will & Grace? Seriously? On the other hand, four out of five of the Best Motion Picture Drama nominees I've actually seen!

The Good Place is one of the most inventive shows on tv.

Well, it is the Globes, and by the looks of a couple of the other nominees they're playing fast and loose with what they nominated for best drama.

I'm not surprised they're giving this movie so many accolades, and wouldn't be surprised if it gets a Best Picture Oscar nomination too. And I'm not surprised because I think the movie is worthy. In fact, I believe Black Panther was insanely overrated. The movie's political theme about black empowerment is the only reason it will be an awards darling. BlacKkKlansman, on the other hand, is about black empowerment, too, but that movie is worthy of award nominations. I'll still be quietly rooting for Spike Lee to win the Globe and Oscar for his work.

The American's is pretty great from start to finish, it's over now by for five years it was one of the best shows on TV.

I feel like I should point out that Avatar won Best Drama.

From what I understand the film's producers/actors chose what category they would try to get a nom in.

A Star is Born is a dramatic Musical, while Stan & Ollie is a drama about comedians. Yet the film full of original songs and highlighted by their performances is categorized as a Drama wile I guess any movie about a famous comedian automatically makes it a Comedy?
