A generous ****/***** - there's no denying my enjoyment of this flick. Its one of those films where I emerge from the cinema & feel like I can kick some arse ...and being the colour fiend that I am the saturated colour that coats Full Throttle was fabulous on these eyes. There are some great incredibly silly stunts in FT....many a moment where I said "No Way!" like the part where the angels surf on wood down a large chain. Much of the action was overthetop but that's to be expected. Also cool is the trash talk although there's not as much as I was hoping for. Though Bosley's "its raining white women" did get a chuckle from me.
Thinking back on it not much of the plot stayed with me - its the humour & action that livens up what little story exists. And this time round I enjoyed Diaz & Lucy a lot more. The 3 gals together have great chemistry - evident in the dance sequence that tips its hat to Singing In The Rain. I was actually a little disappointed when it was revealed that the house moving was just for Diaz & Luke - & not all the girls moving in together...I think there's some comedy potential in having them share a house, but I guess that's a whole other movie.
I was especially glad that they ***spoiler**** continued the storyline with their boyfriends, I feared like many sequels magically all that happened in the first would be forgotten but back again are Luke & Matt in small but valuable roles. But Drew barrymore is the draw card that brought me to this movie & as always she's good fun.
Bernie Mac however hard he tries is less funny & for mind seemed out of place - certainly no match for Bill Murray. Same with Justin Theroux [no matter how impressively buff he is] was no match for Sam Rockwell [from the first movie] in the baddie role. But then you've got the addition of Demi Moore & that more than makes up for it....Diaz was the right choice as the angel to take Demi on - their rooftop fight was very cool but all too brief. My favourite fight though was the one on the ship - with the fight up in the chains.
BTW Did anyone else have a bit of a Point Break dejavu with the whole sex wax development?
With all sequels flying around right now Charlies Angels is one of the few where I'd be happy to see one or two more adventures!
