My vote goes to Philip Seymour Hoffman. He has incredible range and has been perfect in everything I've seen him in.

Seconded. In terms of consistency he's way out in front of most others.

Obviously Hoffmann. Joseph Gordon Levitt is a good one too.

Also Ryan Gosling, been in many smaller films. Maybe too often affectless for some...



As far female actors, I'd say Jessica Chastain is one of the best now. Still need see Texas Killing Fields.

^ I was going to bring the fantastic Jessica Chastain up but you beat me to it, excellent in every role so far. As for Texas Killing Fields, she was wasted in that film, only a small part.

She is one of my favourite actresses right now.

Adam Sandler

I was going to say these two as well. Even if Levitt is in a movie I don't particularly like, I always enjoy him.

Michelle Williams is another.

Adam Sandler is the Nicolas Cage of comedy

I agree with cricket as for Hoffman. I think that Daniel Day Lewis is also a great actor who chooses his roles carefully and dedicates himself to them like hardly anybody.


Ps. It's hard for me to believe that Michelle Williams is the same girl who played in "Dawson's Creek". She made a big progress.

I can't even think of what the last movie was that Willem Dafoe made.
