The Dark Knight, Cloverfield, and Tropic Thunder were all fantastic, but the best movie I saw this year was The Fall.

Certainly not the best movie, but definitely has good acting.
W. by Oliver Stone--Brolin as Bush is perfect.

I am curious about this one.
Zombie Strippers
Jokes, it was fun as hell though.

I'm just surprised at how many people have said In Bruges - I loved it, but thought I was the only one! I'd like to throw Hellboy II: The Golden Army into the mix too - it's as good as either The Incredible Hulk or Wanted, and those seem to have cropped up plenty of times... Plus any chance that newcomer Quantum Of Solace could creep in there?
Obvious plant is obvious.

Wall-E was ****ing sublime. The greatest piece of computer animation ever produced bar none, and by far the best feature that has ever come out of a major American animation studio. Future film historians will mark the advent of Wall-E as the moment that the young medium of computer animation truly came of age.

So far, as far as movies that I've watched in the theatre for 2008,
my top 5 are:
5. The Dark Knight 8.5/10
This film has been talked about so much that I won't say much about it other than I've never used the word "over-rated" yet to describe a movie. As much as I loved TDK (& I do),
it has come very close to being the first one.
4. Kung Fu Panda 8.5/10
Alot of the same stuff I said for Wall-E, though Kung Fu Panda has enough of it's own style to stand away on it's own. I don't think that the story was told as successfully as Wall-E's, but the next level of the "anthropormorphic" facial expressions & the characteristics of the movements reached in this film seem to make up for it.
(Quick side note: This year I also watched the two Appleseed movies on video. With these 2 movies coupled with this entry & Wall-E , I really feel that we are living during a good time in the making of 3-d animated features.)
3. Iron-Man 8.5/10
A much more cohesive origin story than Spidey's first go-at-it. The problem with the first film of any superhero flick is to be able to show enough of a detailed origin while leaving enough room in the film for a transition of the character learning to deal with his/her powers & then some kind climatic confrontation with some sort of antagonist figure. I found this movie to be much better paced than other initial efforts of Marvel properties like the Hulk or Spiderman, with a much more naturalness to the characters, as evidenced by Downey Jr's humor & the comfortable chemistry between he, Gweneth Paltrow & Terence Howard.
2. Cloverfield 9/10
This movie gets an extra point just for the surprise factor of how much I ended up enjoying it. I really didn't expect to like this as much as I did. I saw this flick with my brother-in-law, & remember that when the lights in the theatre came on, we both looked at each with an expression of "Whoa" on our faces.
1.Wall-E 10/10
It seems like these days, every season, an animated movie comes out displaying the next level of computer-generated visuals. For me, it's this film & Kung Fu Panda. While not so surprising in that I (we?) expected the details in the graphics to be as detail & realistic as they were, it's still quite stunning to behold.
Plus, though the themes of this movie are ones we've sen many times before, I'm always quite surprised how often & consistantly they are able to intergrate the amazing graphics into the quality of the storytelling. At the rate that these types flicks are released, it's remarkble that the ratio has been so much more good than bad.
