Slasher Hall of Fame

Destiny, the only thing that has me confused about your dislike for gore, is your love for The Thing. Is it just because The Thing is such a superior movie, that you can look past it? And maybe you see it as necessary to the plot?
Now that I have had those discussions over in the Sci-fi Hall of Fame, I have to say that yes, you nailed it. It is a superior film. I'm hoping every last human would agree. Even those who hate horror, sci-fi, and gore. Also, yes, it is needed in The Thing.

Now, the reason I came in here, is to say that I only have two films left to view. Jeepers Creepers, which I've seen, but I'm planning to show my daughter. I need to get it out of the way, so that I can show her the much better sequel with Ray Wise. Then there's Jason X.

I will do my review on Christmas Evil as soon as I can. I may get delayed, but I do everything possible to keep my word. I already promised that review, so it's coming as soon as I can finish it. Then, however, I'm going to go watch a few of the Sci-fi films. I haven't done anything more over there than read the thread, and reply. I owe that thread a little more. One thing that is going to speed my end up, is that I'm not doing anymore four paragraph reviews. They are not worth the time involved. It may just be me, but I feel like everyone's in a freaking hurry in these threads. God knows everyone's watching the nominations in the blink of an eye.

Yeah, they go through the noms really quick. Don't worry about it, so long as you're in front of me you're doing OK.

KILLER: JASON VOORHEES
KILL COUNT: 19
MEMORABLE KILL: DOCTOR ADRIENNE FACE FROZEN & SMASHED TO BITS

High kill count, one thing i notice, sometimes the more deaths there are the worse the movie is. *sometimes* Some of the best of these have low body counts, yet set up well

OH! OH! OH!

I love Nostromo's DJ Freddy avatar. That's from the show, Freddy's Nightmares. I've seen the actual show.

That is one of the best avatars you have ever had. I wish it was mine.

Here's the video:

RAP MASTER FREDDY!

Actually, upon closer inspection, the avatar's kinda ugly and maybe hard to tell it's Freddy. But I knew it was -- but maybe because I've seen Rap Master Freddy.

Lol Rap Master Freddy.

Destiny, I'm looking forward to your review of Christmas Evil. I may or may not watch it based on how appealing you make it sound. ;p

Christmas Evil (Lewis Jackson, 1980) -

Maniac on Christmas.

But oh so much better than Maniac.

I think I prefer it to Maniac because I prefer the character played by Maggart. He's a bit more interesting and humble, to me. In fact, this whole movie I would describe as kind of a humble slasher. It's fairly quiet and there aren't a lot of killings at all, but that allows it to focus on his character and make for a pretty interesting character study. It's also just an odd movie. I love horror movies set on Christmas because it's such a strange juxtaposition, turning such a cheerful time into something really dark. Overall, this is an excellent film, and my rating for it will only grow in time.

For anyone who may show up, I am doing my Christmas Evil review right now. Sorry I took so long, Zotis and Justin.

I'm not too sure I'd label these reviews, but thanks, sweetie!

Christmas Evil

I honestly got a real big kick out of this film. I love how it took a good half the film to show us his life, family, and what he went through as a child. Why that made him who he was in the present. As well as his desire to do what he was doing. You could really feel sorry for him. Of course that made me worry a lot, too. I worried about his naughty & nice book, as well as the intentions he had because of said book. This is one of those movies where I talk to the characters a few times, if I really don't want them to **** up. I pleaded that he wouldn't cross the line, and do something seriously wrong. One of those things that you can't take back. I really thought he was ready to cross that line
WARNING: "when he was" spoilers below
marking the wall of that one boy's house. I thought at best, he'll scare him into being a better boy, but I was actually worried that he was marking the house of his first 'soon to be' victim.

That was the first time I sat up and said, "Damn it, don't you do it." Did anyone notice who that little kid's mother is? Patricia Richardson, the actress who played the mother in Home Improvement. I noticed several familiar faces in this movie. Just to name one, besides the obvious actors/main characters, there was the police officer from both In the Heat of the Night TV series, and the movie Silver Bullet, David Hart. He also has a small but funny part in Disorganized Crime. I love that film, and it has a great cast. OK, back to the evil . . .

Not only did his naughty & nice book make me worry, but man what a temper.
WARNING: "It was weird, though," spoilers below
because he usually just went somewhere alone to trash things. I knew eventually he wouldn't be able to contain himself. It was sort of funny, but once he started giving out the presents at the hospital, I was saying, "Please, please, just be nice, and play Santa. Don't screw it up." He looked a bit tense when the security guard was telling him to leave. I had to talk to him, as well, "Just shut up, and let him in!" It was great that it all worked out in that scene, and what a hero, but he was holding on to too much anger from the situations at and after work. The people that he worked with. Because of that, I knew he would eventually snap, and damn did he ever. With his first kill, I had no idea he'd do it right there in front of everyone. Hell, as far as I could tell, it wasn't even anyone he worked with. They were standing in the background, a few steps back. So, he went nuts with the toys, killed a couple of people, and drove away. Then, before you know it, he's at a Christmas party, having a blast, like nothing ever happened. Of course he had to think about that damn book again, and warn the children about it. What he said to them was really messed up, and I thought the one mother was going to blow it, and enrage him. It was a little weird that after what he said to the children, the parents still sent him off with a lot of praise. Do you guys ever have thoughts while watching movies, like the one I'm about to share . . . "I wonder how stupid they felt the next day, when they found out who he was!?!" I know it's just a movie, but seriously, they were hugging and dancing with a psycho killer, just because he was dressed up like Santa Claus.

Now, for the man he works with, and the alley scene.
WARNING: "The scene with the man he works with was odd because of how he" spoilers below
killed him right there, next to the wife, and it took forever to wake her up. When she finally did wake up, she couldn't scream. Before all that, the smiling children were watching him, because he felt the need to give them presents, before he killed their father. What the hell?!?

Then the alley scene, which was intense, because by now I didn't know if he had it in him to hurt innocent children, just to save himself. Oddly enough, no one ended up dead, or even hurt, from what I could tell. Leave it to the children to defend Santa, and not listen to their parents. Damn kids! It was rather funny that after that, everyone was chasing him across town with torches. Oh, and doesn't big brother have a bit of a rage issue? It was a little messed up that his children watched him drag what looked like the dead uncle to the van.

Now, for the ending of the film. The very ending was weird, but I'll have to get over it, and I'll say why
WARNING: "in here." spoilers below
He flew away in his van. The brother watched the van drive off the overpass, bridge, whatever, and he is looking up in shock. Then we see it fly off. So, is this the thoughts of a lunatic man, who actual believes he is doing this, because he believes he is Santa? Maybe this is just a corny ending to a movie? In Christmas with the Kranks, Santa flies away in his slug bug, at the end of the movie. Am I reading too much into this, and I need to just accept that after all this, his van can fly?

Um, I actually did worse with this reviewish type post. This is awful, but of well. I'm never going to get done. That's for sure.

OK, I'm leaving now.

Derek, two of your links are already not working. I am not sure why, unless it's because the post count alters the thread too much, and it no longer matches. I am only guessing. Anyway, what you can do, is link directly to each review post. Click the time stamp in each of your review post, and take that url to link directly to each review.

One issue with Hall of Fames *can* be that they are too rigid, too locked in. Whether my picks loses or wins, i've realized i don't know the next time i'll have as much fun on MovieForums as i have with this thread, so i want to make the best of it while it lasts

Anyone should be able to come in here and talk about whatever slasher film they want, even if they're not one of the people who nominated a movie. Like if Sexy wants to come in and talk about a movie he thinks got left out, he should be able to. Or if Captain Spaulding wants to come in and give his thoughts on slashers, he should be able to too.

Anyways, i've decided to talk about

...

THE DREAM MASTER

When deep sleep falleth on men, fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake. We're with Kristen, Joey, & Kincaid, three of the main characters from Dream Warriors. Kincaid's tossing darts, hanging out with his dog, they arrive in a junkyard, and awaken the bones of springwood's slasher
One down, two to go
Joey down. Waterbed.
Elm Street's last brat, farewell
Kristen down. Furnace in the boiler room surrounded by chains and hooks. Aristotle believed that when you sleep, your soul roams free. What it sees are dreams

Take a look at our town history, not exactly a safe place to be a teenager
Sorry that you and your tennis pals torched this guy, and now he's after me? In case you haven't been keeping score, it's his f*ing banquet, & i'm the last course!

Dream about someplace fun, remember, you're in control.
How do you know so much about dreams?
When it's all you have, you sorta become an expert

I have fun with the first three Elm Street sequels and New Nightmare, that's-
Freddy's Revenge: -----
7.0 / 10
Dream Warriors: --------
+ 7.5 / 10
Dream Master: ----------
7.0 / 10
New Nightmare: ---------
7.0 /10

Agree with all of this. I'd like the discussion to be pretty open ended. I believe it adds context to the actual competition aspect of this thread.
