You've got red on you!
Stand By Me, hands down. Followed closely by Misery and Carrie.

The Shining book is in my top 5 novels so I'd sooner have my eyeballs tattooed before I'll consider the movie as a 'top' in this category. I know, I've had many an argument with Kubrick fans, but I can't help it, I'm a purist!

You're entitled to your opinion, but the way I look at it... if a different director followed the book 100% and was a lesser director, then The Shining never becomes the horror classic that it was.

Kubrick might have taken on his own vision, but he transformed it into a horror masterpiece.

I really love this list. Maximum Overdrive is like the Mason-Dixon line.

Thanks, DocHoliday, and you're entitled to your opinion as well!

I consider the book a masterpiece, not the other way around. What I loved about the book just wasn't captured in the film, and not just certain events that did/didn't take place, it was the actors too. But, that's just me .

Misery or IT
