My pick would have to be Rollerball . After hearing that it was by the same director and producer from "The Fast and the Furious", which I loved, I figured it should live up to the F and F potentional. But it feel drastically short. It could have been a lot better.
For the record, you heard wrong about the ties between The Fast & the Furious and the Rollerball re-make. John McTiernan directed and served as a producer for Rollerball, and he directed Die Hard (1988) & Die Hard: With A Vengeance (1995), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Predator (1987), The 13th Warrior (1999) and the upcoming Basic (2003) among others, including another re-make of a Norman Jewison movie: The Thomas Crown Affair (1999). Rollerball's executive producer is Michael Tadross, who's previous projects include The Devil's Advocate (1997), Indecent Proposal (1993) and Eraser (196).
One of the two credited screenwriters on the Rollerball re-make is John Pogue, who also contributed to last year's Ghost Ship (2002), and wrote U.S. Marshals (1998) and The Skulls (2000). Pogue srved as the executive producer on The Fast & the Furious (2001), though he didn't have credit as a writer and certainly didn't direct that movie. Rob Cohen directed The Fast & the Furious, as well as XxX (2001), Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993), Daylight (1996), Dragonheart (1996) and The Skulls (2000). Rob had absolutely nothing to do with Rollerball.
So that's the only connection: the executive producer of F&F was one of the screenwriters on Rollerball.
But beyond all that, I'm amazed anybody was actually looking forward to the oft-delayed Rollerball. On the other hand, you loved The Fast & the Furious.

If memory serves, they hyped it as coming from the "same minds" (or something of the sort) that "brought us The Fast and the Furious." Not that Hollywood is above stretching the truth for a buck, but it's a rather understandable mistake, given that.
That said, I, too, was looking forward to Rollerball at first. The ever-ominous production delays quickly dashed what hopes I had, but early on I was quite interested, as I dug the original and clearly the fictional sport itself could, potentially, be brought to the silver screen with bone-crushing intensity in this cinematic day and age.

One movie I was actually looking forward to after seeing its teaser was 1992's The Time Machine. I went to see it and it began great, but it got to be a real piece of trash. The worst I've ever seen.
