How do you get your movies online?

Tools

I'm working on a website and I could use some input... and I figure all you movie-heads here would be a good place to start

How does everyone get their movies online?

- Do you prefer pay-per-movie services like iTunes, Vudu or Amazon Instant Video, or monthly-fee services like Hulu or Netflix? Or maybe another service?

- Do you use a combination of multiple services, or are you loyal to one in particular?

- How many folks out there use file sharing (less than legal) methods, like bitTorrent?

Also, How do you view the movies you get online?

- Do you prefer streaming, or do you like to have them fully downloaded?

- Do you view in a "home theater", on your computer, on a mobile device, or some other way? Or maybe a combination?

- How many of you still burn movies you get online to DVD?

I'd like to start a dialog and get an idea of what people like and don't like, and why. Any responses would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for your time.

Just a quick reminder to everyone that talking about piracy is totally fine as long as the discussion remains in the abstract. Have at it and such.

I have 2 ways of watching movies online. I'll share one of them: Netflix. And it's honestly a pretty good site. If you want my other suggestion message me because I don't want to have my post potentially removed.

I watch very old films online that are not avaliable to buy/rent but are up legally to watch free online, archives and so on.

As for everything else, I don't watch films online. It's cinema or blu-ray/dvd for me.

Sorry, just to be clear, my intent wasn't to talk about, or link to, specific file sharing methods. In fact, I'm against file sharing, and I'm clear about that on my website.

However, the fact is, people do it. So, any honest discussion of how people get their movies online will have to include file sharing as a method (in the abstract, of course).

As this is my first post here, I want to make sure I don't violate any rules

You did not. I actually posted what I did as much to signal to everyone else that it was fine to talk about as to warn anyone. No worries.

Young Skywalker. Missed you, I have...
I stream from various sites, looking for the best quality. I find that by the time I get to the theater (35-40 miles away) pay for the ticket, popcorn and a soda it has cost me somewhere around $50. It is MUCH cheaper for me to watch from home.

Yes, movie theater prices have gotten insane! Thanks for your input

I think I can guess what your other method is...

As for Netflix, do you watch on your computer monitor, or another device? I know some people who do Netflix on their TV over AppleTV. Other folks watch it through their game console, like XBox 360 or Wii. Or do you use a mobile device?

Thanks for your response.

The food and drink will take up a lot of that cost, don't buy food and drink and you will save a lot when going to the cinema.

I never do, I take a little bottle of water from home and that's it.

that's what she said...

I have Netflix-bought a gift pack online so instead of paying $8/mo. its only $30/yr but I'm on a yr contract with that. (Can't cancel anytime like those who do it monthly) But I'm saving a bunch of money and I love Netflix especially for all the TV show choices.

I'm loyal to Netflix and YouTube

I will admit I have illegally watched movies (I won't list the site) but I never heard of bitTorrent. Anyways though, I very rarely do this because I learned the hardway 2 years ago NOT to download anything from mysterious sites because I tried watching "THE UNINVITED" and next thing you know my computer was completely infested with viruses to the point where the HP fixer people couldn't even help me and I had to spend $600 on a new laptop!! So I have found a place that knock on wood has never given me a problem and it's basically instant streaming (like a YouTube vid in a way) but I am still very caucious because I don't want to be forking out another $600 that I DONT have.

streaming

- Do you view in a "home theater", on your computer, on a mobile device, or some other way? Or maybe a combination?
Mostly on my laptop, occasionally on my PS3

- How many of you still burn movies you get online to DVD?
I don't know how to do that but if I did I'd probably have a lot more DVDs.

Monthly, used to have Netflix and have considered getting LoveFilm.

One at a time, don't use one at the moment though.

I do yes, mainly for films that are difficult to obtain, although I try not to do it as much but I don't have much time now so mainly stick to recording what's on TV unless I particularly want to see something.

Also, How do you view the movies you get online?

Fully downloaded, see blow

- Do you view in a "home theater", on your computer, on a mobile device, or some other way? Or maybe a combination?

Stick them on my memory stick, stick it in the side of the TV, play with top quality picture, simple.

- How many of you still burn movies you get online to DVD?

Nope.

I forgot to mention that I run them through my PS3 to my tv. My bad.

netflix... i hear amazon is a good deal as well.

I only pirate hard to find films, because I will not wait a day to see a film I am in the mood to see.
