The Godfather of Gore

My life isn't written very well.
I was reading Sexy Celebs' great review of House of a 1000 Corpses, and it got me to thinking of that king of mindless gore, that manufacturer of meat--Hershell Gordon Lewis. Lewis' films are cult favorites among horror fans like me.

Now, if you're a horror fan and you've never even heard of Lewis I recommend that you get your hands on not one, but at least two of his films. I recommend Blood Feast , and 2000 Maniacs. Let's just say that he's known as "The Godfather of Gore" for a really good reason. These movies are not for the squeamish, but definitly shouldn't be missed by the horror fan. It's best to view these films with a friend who is interested in like genre because anyone else will think you're insane. I swear they're so low buget they look like "snuff films", they're not though...really. I've included the following links. Sorry his homepage is a little outdated, but if you're interested in what he's about, it's a good place to start learning about the man.

Hell, let's gore out evreyone and recommend a flick on Deodato's
roster. I honestly don't think self proclaimed horror fans (the Scream generation etc.) could take the likes of Lewis and the other gore masters.

i find movies that portray gore being pathetic usually...
i mean with exception to movies like Saving Private Ryan, and other movies where gore does play its part...

neester, please tell me more about your position on "gore" in the movies. Are you disturbed by it? Certainly a horror movie containing gore isn't as disturbing as say the blood and death scenes in"Saving Private Ryan."
