Well, I did my Top 40 Villains a while back, so thought it only right to make a Top 20 Favourite Heroes list too...
20: Mr Myagi, Noriyuki Morita, The Karate Kid Series.
.jpg/250px-Pat-Morita_(Karate_Kid).jpg)
Small, unassuming and has had a difficult history, but has the aura of deadliness and humanity that is rarely found in a Surrogate Father figure. He's also very funny at times too.
19: Clarice Starling, Jodie Foster, The Silence Of The Lambs.

Foster's Starling, still wet behind the ears from basic training, manages to enlist the help of one serial killer to catch another, in the process she captures the former's heart too. And mostly without breaking a sweat.
18: Dutch, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Predator.

Thrown into a situation he really didn't want to be in, Dutch shows movie-goers exactly what the musclebound military hero was built for... fighting hand to hand with an 8 foot tall Alien with blades on its wrists.
17: Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp, Pirates Of The Caribbean Series.

Usually drunk, but very funny and very cunning and just wants to sail the seas for eternity. Good with a sword and certainly good for anyone who has him on their side. He's also lots of fun.
16: Handymen Duo Valentine McKee and Earl Basset, Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, Tremors.

The unwilling heroes who settle their differences by playing Scissors, Rock, Paper are brilliantly inept at dealing with the series' of weird events. Still, they do it anyway, and make the audience giggle at the same time.
15: Jason Bourne, Matt Damon, The Bourne Trilogy.

A tortured soul with one simple thing on his mind... to remember his past and bring justice to those that turned him into what he has become. Highly lethal, an expert in pretty much every form of fighting and the perfect assassin-turned-goodguy.
14: James Bond, Various Actors, The 007 Franchise.

Going off the rails in most of the movies but Bond always gets his man... and the girl... all while sipping a Martini, driving an awesome car and saying something very, very cheesey.
13: James T Kirk, William Shatner and Chris Pine, Star Trek 1-6 and the Star Trek Series.

The character himself is witty, intelligent, flawed and yet still human... and commands a respect from his crew without even needing to try. By far the best Captain of any Starship, ever, and has rarely been bested by the bad guy.
12: Aragorn, Viggo Mortensen, Lord Of The Rings Trilogy.

A rewritten role but Mortensen's Aragorn is wise, tough, unbending in whatever quest that's been laid before him and is a true leader of men. He's also great with a bow and even better with a sword.
11: The Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Arnie's second appearance in the list... the futuristic killing machine returned with a difference. Ok, he was programmed to be a 'hero', but with John Connor by his side to show him how humanity works, he becomes more humane than those around him and stops at absolutely nothing to keep the main protagonist safe.
10: Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Weaver, Alien Series.

Starting as a pompous, career-driven Officer and moving on to the tortured survivor of the ultimate horror, then becoming an incredibly tough and able leader, all while carrying the burden of what she has seen and been through.
9: John McClane, Bruce Willis, Die Hard Series.

A well trained cop, thrown into various uncomfortable settings and managing to pull himself together and save the day and usually saving a family member too, wisecracking as he does so.
8: Kal El/Superman, Christopher Reeve, Superman 1-4.

The straight forward, straight-laced Superhero, played in such a way by Reeve that he has never been bettered. Slightly tortured after his earth father's death, but eventually finding his place in Metropolis.
7: Rocky Balboa, Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Series.

Full of heart and full of dedication to his job and his family. Quite often he overcomes seriously great odds, however, it's usually with some sort of personal consequence. Even so... he still keeps on punching.
6: Maximus Decimus Meridius, Russell Crowe, Gladiator.

Betrayed by someone who regarded him as a brother and thrown into the world of slavery. Maximus' sheer skill, toughness, intelligence and dedication to the sword sees him unwillingly become a Hero Of Rome for the second time in his life, but all he wants is to simply see his family again.
5: Han Solo, Harrison Ford, Star Wars 4-6.

Completely inept in numerous situations and often gets himself into more trouble than he was already in... Solo gives the audience humour in times of hardship and a viewer friendly gung-ho attitude when times are really looking tough.
4: Bruce Wayne/Batman, Christian Bale, Nolan's Batman Trilogy.

Yet another tortured soul on the list, this time played with a realistic edge by a great actor. Hell bent on teaching fear to the fearless, determined to uphold the law and keeping true to a set of humane morals in the process.
3: Alex Murphy/Robocop, Peter Weller, Robocop.

A memory wiped from existence and programmed into a product of an inhumane society, Murphy still manages to come back from the dead and uses his new found powers to fight not just on the side of the law, but for the side of what's morally right.
2: Luke Skywalker, Mark Hamill, Star Wars 4-6.

Another Star Wars Hero in the top 10... a farmboy with delusions of grandeur and the want and will to fight for goodness. Thrown into a world he doesn't recognise he still finds the inner strength to become the saviour of an entire galaxy... all while carrying the ultimate burden on his shoulders.
1: Dr Henry Jones Jr, Harrison Ford, Indiana Jones Trilogy.

Harrison Ford's second Top 10 entry sees him hit top spot overall... The typical hero in that he's simply just a tough person, an expert with a whip and a gun and is usually going after something that can destroy the world. What makes him different though is that he's a Doctor of Archeology, a School Teacher, he's a flawed human that can still take a beating, then he winces like a baby when his new Ladyfriend patches him up.
