The reason I didn't give it a full rating is in my book there is no such thing as a perfect movie, and never will be. I will never give a movie a full rating for the record.
You're wrong. It exists. While "perfection" is to some degree subjective, so is your review, so there isn't a contention here. Regardless, I don't think a full rating should be reserved for perfection especially since you don't believe in it. You should also use a 10 system or at least quarter stars if this is true.

If you don't do these things, you will be living a misguided life. Trust my great and powerful wisdom in these matters.

Planet out.

Yeah, I'll agree. I'm not sure I see the point of stating, definitively, that you'll never give something a perfect rating. A "perfect" rating is not the same thing as a "perfect" film. You're giving it the highest rating on a given scale, because you think it's about as good a film as films get to be.

The effect is lost anyway, because if you refuse on some strange principle to EVER hand out a perfect rating, it'll just make 4.5 out of 5 the equivalent of a perfect rating for you.

I don't mean to sound rude.. but in his review of Apoc Now.. no way does it show that he liked the movie, it feels as if he is meant to.. coz it's a great film or so he heard....

The review speaks about plot, performances & mentions that the movie was great...
I don't think Apocalypse Now deserves a review as if the movie just got released last week.
The review has to be deep & meaningful, exploiting the characters.. if one truly loved Apocalypse Now, & gives it above 4/5 rating, then it won't look like a review at all.. it will end up looking like an essay..

That's how great the film is...
Maybe I am getting a bit sentimental about it..
