Projecting the image of success
All of these security problems with PC gaming are why I switched over to console. It's much easier and faster to just plug in a game and go to town.

Ya'll should check out Left 4 Dead. Amazing game by the way.

Well, one chapter in and Dead Space is already the most atmospheric game i've played on PS3. That maybe an exaggeration but it's the closest game thus far to Resident Evil 4 which i maintain is one the best games ever.

Heh, I think it's really really average. Rented it last week and got bored by chapter 3.

Playing Fallout 3 kind of, I binged it for awhile and now I have a hard time brining myself to play it.

Recently borrowed Mass Effect, it's awesome

Game I most recently beat was Dead Space, easily the best new IP I've played in awhile!

Well, i'm only just on chapter 2. It's got some nice sound effects and the few cheap jumps to keep me enjoyed and plays out so far with a nice story to keep going. Though, I imagine the starting bit where you have no weapons and don't really know what to do is probably the scariest bit in the game, before it becomes second nature blasting away. Gone back to Fallout, though and am enjoying that a lot more lol.

Dill- what's an IP?

North American Scum!
Just a quick question I'd like to pose...Fable II, Gears of War 2, or Call of Duty World at War...which one should I buy just based on awesomeness?

This is for Xbox 360 if you haven't deduced that already and I already own CoD4 and loved it but I'm hesitant to buy CoD5 b/c I heard it is very similar. Right now I'm leaning towards Fable but I'd love to here some opinions of people who actually played the games.

p.s. Just finished Kotor for my computer...!!!

Well, i'm a PS3 owner so don't know about the first but i absolutely loved CoD 4 but not really rushing for World at War. Think that leaves two more and i'm pretty sure they're vastly different games so think you're personal taste would probably decide it. Although my friend did tell me they completed GoW2 in between playing Fallout 3 so guessing not that long.

The People's Republic of Clogher
Tomb Raider: Underworld - The original PS1 game is one of my all-time favourites and I don't think any of the sequels got the mix right until last year's TR Anniversary. Underworld is a step backward, if anything - it looks lovely, seems to be more about exploration than combat (which has never been done well) and Lara is, y'know, raiding tombs again (far too many of the sequels had her running around cities, modern buildings etc) but the camera is bloody awful. All too often you're just about to line up a jump and the camera suddenly jerks off in another direction and out heroine follows it in one mighty leap, splatting the ground a few seconds later. To put it mildly, this is somewhat frustrating and a great shame.

Sad to say that Uncharted: Drake's Fortune did this a lot better on the PS3. Maybe it's time to pension the old girl off?

At the very least, give the next one to a new development team.

In the Beginning...
Recently played:

Fallout 3
This one starts in a very peculiar way, and it took quite a while to get myself established so I didn't fear common raiders. I think that was due in part to how I set up my character early on, anticipating how I thought I might play the game based on how I played Oblivion. Needless to say, that didn't happen. Lots of nice moments, surprises, locations, etc. My only complaint is that the main quest really only takes you through a tiny selection of the map. If you want to see most of downtown D.C., you've gotta get off the beaten path. Not that it was ever my intention otherwise, but you know...

The only other thing I'll say is about the economy in the game. I have a love-hate relationship with it. On the one hand, I like the fact that it feels like a dystopic, fragile economy where you constantly have to keep merchant capital up, but on the other, it makes it bloody difficult on the front end of the game to make any cash. I do, however, like that I can take a companion with me and use him as my traveling packhorse for all the swag I pick up to sell off.

Left 4 Dead
Awesome game, love playing it with my friends. I also like how certain elements of the game are variable, so that you never get the same experience twice in a row. That said, however, I'm not sure it retains the replay value as much as it wants to. That's not to say that I'm getting bored with the game; running through those campaigns are just loads of fun as it is. But anymore, I find myself almost craving a nonstop horde. The "defense" bits are the best in the game, bar none. Actually, strike that: becoming a Hunter and pouncing a helpless survivor whose friends have all but left him to die is, I think, the best in the game.

Mass Effect
I beat this ages ago, but Bioware added some extra playable content last summer, and I just got around to playing through it. Those guys are magicians, and the add-on did nothing more than make me crave more new Mass Effect. Thanks, guys.

Dead Space
Downloaded the "Dismemberment" demo, played it for two minutes, and turned it off. I love survival horror, and given the right amount of time spent, I'd probably love this game too. It's got all the makings of a favorite. The demo just made a terrible impression. It ought to ease you into the gameplay instead of going for the suspense and throwing you smack into combat. I found myself hobbling around a strange room with an empty gun and two Thing-looking motherfathers chasing me, with no idea where to find ammo, what it looks like, or why the room sounds like it's about to explode. Give me a shotgun, game!

An IP is an intellectual property, like Gears of War or Assassin's Creed or something like that. Basically it's the idea of the game and the game itself; normally in gaming it refers to franchises (Dead Space is going to be a trilogy).

I just got Crysis special edition for $20 for PC, im phyced to play that because my computer can run it on high .

In the Beginning...
Anyone disappointed by Fallout 3 endings?
I was disappointed that, unlike Oblivion, I'm incapable of finishing the game as the Grand Master Dictator-for-Life of nearly every faction present.

But yeah, seriously, the ending is a little underwhelming. For such a catastrophic wasteland and its all-important saving grace, the main quest is over in no time. Certainly not long enough to feel like your deeds are particularly legendary. I feel like, "I just stepped out of this hole in the ground, killed a couple mutants, turned a couple dials... what's the big deal?"

Oh, and for anyone who's playing the game, or thinking about playing the game: if you want to get the most for your money...

WARNING: "Fallout 3 ending" spoilers below
...make sure you keep a good backlog of save files. Unlike previous Bethesda games, you die at the end of the main quest, so obviously you're not permitted to continue playing your character. Do everything you want to do before the final bit, or just keep a save file preceding it. And it's so obvious when that final bit is about to start that you shouldn't have to worry about overlooking it.

Yeah, the saving thing is a massive pain, amount of times i've had to revert to old saves because done something wrong or for fun and it's auto-saved it. Aren't there alternate endings to that though?

As for the game, i kinda don't really have any incentive to go and do the side quests, i don't need to better my character for the final mission- which should surely be the point of them. Obviously, i will eventually as i'm sure there's quite a few more. Just think it's got to the point where the game's not so much a challenge but there's lots left to do. Of course, if someone wants to enlighten me to some hidden things i've missed.... I've heard of a Deathclaw cave and only just encountered one- looks like fun. And anyone who's played it, how was the your outcome with the Enclave, just wondering if all the speech options lead to the same conclusion.

I've had some trouble with Fallout 3; the battle system for the most part. Some of the "Super Mutants" are nearly impossible to kill, or perhaps it's just me.

I don't know, maybe I just need to play it more.

I need to get a better video card before I can get FO3. Damn it, I've been waiting for that game since 1998. Ten ****ing years.

Let's try to be broad-minded about this
Just played Fable II and i loved it

About to start Assassins Creed this weekend

The People's Republic of Clogher
The SDK for Fallout 3 will be out some time this month, apparently, and the modders will hopefully iron out the rough edges...

After having it for a few weeks I'm just not getting the same satisfaction re-playing as I did with Morrowind and Oblivion (I know we should take F3 on its own merits but the same guys wrote it with the same basic tools). Maybe it's because the game stops after you complete the main quest, I dunno.

In terms of other save points, keep one from just before you leave the vault at the beginning (where you're given the choice to change your stats) to save loads of Big Neeson-based faffing around.
