Great epsiode. Glad to see they're not getting rid of Zach, because I really like the relationship he and Claire developed and are re-developing.
Heroes
Agreed. I really dug the Claire stuff last night, and was impressed with her performance. Overall, this episode seemed to be higher quality than the previous stuff, both acting and production quality. Can't wait for next week.

Regarding the revelation of Claire's father: It made sense (and was somewhat obvious) because...
What "got" me far more than any of the plot developments or revelations in this episode, however, was the dialogue. It was probably the best in the series to date. Claude's lectures to Peter were thought-out and interesting. The fact that Christopher Eccleston could play the role in his sleep probably helped, too.
A few good lines stand out. Most notably Isaac talking to Simone about the ups and downs in his life: "Good...bad...you."
That, more than any of the twists and turns that the promo-producing monkeys at NBC keep sensationalizing, is what stood out to me.
WARNING: "Heroes" spoilers below
1) She and Peter definitely had a connection. We now know it's because they're family.
2) The arm we saw in last week's promos looked like Nathan's.
Solid twist. Nothing spectacular. I seriously dig on the idea of Peter being able to "recall" powers he's absorbed, though.

I have to say, I'm not totally nuts on a few aspects of the series, like Hiro's here-today, gone-tomorrow powers. Now, it's entirely possible that the fluctuations have a good explanation which simply hasn't been revealed to us yet, but if ends up involving the Kansei sword somehow helping him to focus, as he currently believes, then I'll be rather disappointed. Hopefully this whole thing isn't just an excuse to give Hiro something to do until the season's climax.

I think Hiro's come and go powers are related to the situation he is in...he seems to not be able to call upon them in times of distress ie getting beat up by the casino thugs, being chase by his fathers henchmen etc...
...he has been shown to be fate and destiny focused...so maybe he thinks the reason for his inability to summon his powers is not his own, but by design or on purpose...and in the comic book world he think he lives in, the Kensei Sword is what he made his conclusion to be

yaaay, the thread is back! and yoda-san is into it ...
re: hiro, yeah i agree if the sword is their silly way of milking his story line to parallel the others til the end, disappointment for me. but based on the future/flashback we get of him and peter, he becomes a stronger individual and has the sword. he clearly has learned himself and his power.
there have been hints that he uses "the rules of heroism" as a guideline to what is right/wrong versus the "rules of his inner morality and truth." thus his fear and inertia when dangerous things happen around him and require his active decision making. if he's called upon to make a split decision - he knows the RIGHT thing to do but always hesitates. he doesn't hesitate not because he doesn't want to do it but because he actually has to stop and think and internally ask himself what the right thing to do would be.
that isn't a hero, that's someone playing a hero. so, hiro is learning who he really is and is developing inner strength, which will in turn make him into a real hero, not a child playing at being one.
first step - smartly handling the father/daughter situation for his father's company.
i have got to say i love watching Jessica/Nikki flip around and am glad of Micah's steps toward admitting his own secrets. His dad annoys me though - what kind of man has trouble getting money to pay rent when his legal problems should be cleared? seriously? why is calling to borrow money and not doing yardwork or flipping burgers or something?
dialogue - i agree, it was muuuch better this time around. i think they've had time to take a look at the first episodes and fix some flaws. good times for us!
oh, and i still hate peter. i think it's something about how he handles himself/his powers/other people. it's been brought up multiple times in the show that he seems unable to solve things by himself - he always makes a big emotional scene but in the end resolves nothing on his own. he perpetually turns to others to solve his own riddles.
that drives me mad! hiro has lost his powers and his handling himself better than peter! geesh.

RE: Peter - We clearly look for different things in characters, as I find Peter to be the most interesting, by far. I am confused as to why you don't like him. The flaws you name make the character better, not worse. Maybe I just relate to him more. I don't know, andf have never met, anyone that knows exactly what they should be doing in a crisis. I doubt people like that exist. IMO, Nikki is the worst thread of the show, hands down, regardless of some slight improvement recently in her story arc... When Heroes first aired, I thought she had the most potential to be an interesting character, but they haven't done anything beyond completely predictable with her, as of yet... The little busted family dynamic might as well be on Lifetime or something... terribly written, for sho. Micah is interesting. I wish they would do more with him.

Wow. The ending to Heroes last night was SAD.
Decent episode though. Not great. Just a bridge to next week.

Because he is a fugitive? The cat is the focus of a manhunt. It might be a bit tough to come though at McDs, serving burgers out the drive-thru to 5-0, when you are a wanted man...

Agree on almost every count, with the caveat that I find Peter both interesting and annoying.
I can only hope he turns badass, just like Luke did between Ep. IV and VI. He went from "to pick up some power converters!" to "You've failed, your highness. I'll never join you."
So, its possibble, and thats probably where they're going to go with it. Not to mention we caught that glimpse of Hiro as a badass from the future, so things will probably work out.

Am I the only one who finds Zachary Quinto to be horribly miscast?
I think he does a poor job in that role and I think for a supervillian, Sylar is really boring and predictable.
