I am now 2 episodes into season two on this hugely popular prime time soap that ran on the Fox network from 2003 to 2007.This is the story of a juvenile delinquent named Ryan (Benjamin McKenzie) who gets into trouble after neing kicked out of his house and is actually taken in by his wealthy public defender, Sandy Cohen (Peter Gallagher), who lives in a fancy mansion in Orange County with his wife, Kirsten (Kelly Rowan) and his son, Seth (Adam Brody). Eventually Ryan finds himself in a star-crossed romance with next door nieghbor Marissa Cooper (Mischa Barton) who lives with her snooty socialite mom (Melinda Clarke) and her dad, Jimmy (Tate Donavan) who has just gone bankrupt after a business scheme of his revealed that he had stolen millions from family and friends. There's nothing deep or groundbreaking here, the underlying theme of the show seems to be that the rich and beautiful have problems too. It's a little 90210, a little Melrose Place, a little Desperate Housewives and all the high school students in the show are played by 30 year ol actors. There's also this character named Summer, played Rachel Bilson, who refers to everyone in the show by their surnames, which is eally annoying. The star0crossed romance between Ryan and Marissa is the the crux of the show and these two have brken up and made up like eight times so far. Initially, the relationship between Ryan, Marissa, and Seth reminded me of James Dean, Natalie and Sal Mineo in Rebel Without a Cause, though I do think Seth is secretly in love with Ryan and is in denial about it, It's understandable since McKenzie is very easy on the eyes. He, of course, went on to play Detective Jim Gordon on another Fox series Gotham. Chris Carmack plays Marissa's ex, Luke, who graduated to Nashville and Grey's Anatomy. I don't know why, but I have fiound this show oddly entertaining so far and believe it or not, the scene stealer is Adam Brody as Seth. So if pretty people with pretty problems is your thing, belly up.
