YELLOWSTONE (Paramount Network)

Rewatching the series. Didnt realize Dabney Coleman played Costners Dad in a flashback. He was unrecognizable, but still nailed it. Like he always did. RIP

Rewatching the series for the 3rd or 4th time Ive been reminded how much of an influence Costner had in the show and storylines. Not all, but his presence and demeanor was perfect for this series. He always excels in anything western or baseball. Impact wise it will probably be like when Steve Carrell left The Office. The show will be good, but not "as good".

Well it premiered, and they should have called the episode "ripping the band-aid" off".
No frills. No pity. No bleeps given.

Did they kill Kenny?

The second half of Yellowstones final season ended last night, and it was apparant thru these last 6 episodes that it was uninspired flat crap. I dont know just how bad the blood was between Costner and Sheridan, but I rather theyd have even waited longer till all parties were available to end the story like it was supposed to have. So disappointing. Made the final season of Game of Thrones look like a masterpiece.

I have to agree with Tongo. I think that the second half of Season 5 were the worst episodes, by far, in the series. "Yellowstone" was narratively inert without Kevin Costner. They took six episodes to tell a story that could have been told in 2 or 3 episodes. I actually think this probably would have been better as a 2 hour TV movie. There was so much filler, and the heart of the show, Kevin Costner, was gone. Based on Season 5B, I'm skeptical that I'm going to be interested in a spin off series focusing on Beth and Rip's characters, which is what is being planned. Without Kevin Costner, it just wasn't a very engaging or compelling series for me.

It was the worst final season of any series in the history of television. The last season of Seinfeld was uninspired, flat, and outright bad. At least Jerry Seinfeld was in it though. Costners absence didnt inspire Taylor Sheridan in any way creatively, "Hey Walker why dont you play us a song?" Wow thats brilliant. Plain uninspired filler. If this is a portent of what the Rip/Beth show will be then RIP to whatever was cool about this series. The quality fell so hard and fast you need a decompression chamber.

Honestly, I think that "Yellowstone" has been going downhill for awhile. It was certainly accelerated by Costner's sudden absence, but when they made John Dutton governor and he had little to no interest in taking the job seriously and doing a good job for the people of his state, that was the beginning of the end quality-wise for me.

Count no fan happy until a series is ended.

When Costner appeared to be bored to tears with the show was when I felt the same way. Did not subscribe to the final season & no one loved the first season more than me.

The Adventure Starts Here!
Okay, so I started this series on Paramount+, which we get as part of our cable subscription. Got a few episodes in and was enjoying it, then stopped to binge other things. I'm now trying to FIND it again, and nobody has it streaming anymore, not even Paramount+. Comcast/Xfinity would make me BUY each episode or season (despite the fact that I got it as part of my cable subscription for free before).

WHERE has it gone? Paramount+ does have the prequel series 1923 and also 1883... (I started 1923 with Ford and Mirren and am enjoying it but figured I should probably watch Yellowstone first.)

So, what happened? (If it's discussed earlier in this thread, I'm avoiding it on purpose because I caught a semi-spoiler or two while glancing through this whole thread.)

Ugh.

Originally, despite being a Taylor Sheridan show, "Yellowstone" was only on Paramount Network. All other Taylor Sheridan shows are on Paramount +, but Paramount + doesn't own the rights to "Yellowstone". The last season aired on Paramount Network, but the older episodes for previous seasons are on Peacock. I think this is one of the reasons "Yellowstone" was cancelled. Paramount + wanted to own the show, and by continuing it as a sequel series, which is the current plan, they will be able to obtain the rights to the show moving forward, since this will be considered a new show. I think you can watch the whole series on Peacock, but unfortunately, that streaming service is not free. However, Comcast/Xfinity owns Peacock, so it's possible you may be able to get Peacock as a free addition to an existing cable or Internet service, or there may be a promotion you can take advantage of. If you haven't already done this, it might be worth checking the options you might have with Xfinity.

Ah, that's where I watched the first handful of episodes. Strangely, it is listed on IMDb and elsewhere (the posters) as a Paramount Network original show. That, plus the spinoff shows being on Paramount = my confusion.

I do get the level of Peacock that lets me watch Yellowstone, so I'll watch it there, and will continue with 1923 and then 1883 on Paramount.

Don't know how it went from being a Paramount original to not be on Paramount+, but hey, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Anyone else noticed how convoluted it can sometimes be to simply sit down & watch a movie or tv show without figuring out which streaming service has it?

I use this site, and it's usually up to date, but not always (clearly!).
