Minio's Ramblings on Cinema

So many people are slaves to ideology, to the point where it not just informs their choices in life but overwhelmingly dictates every single word they utter. This is true for all ideologies, so this is not a political point, but rather a point about how one's ideology transforms them and their response to art. I think there's something truly horrifying in it. And it's also why children are so superior to adults, as they have no ideology and are perfectly free and unbiased when experiencing art. Their natural creativity and craving for everything novel predispose children to be the perfect experiencers of art. But then ideology is introduced, and that experience is soiled.

The trick is not minding
Setsuko Hara conveys so much emotion with just her face and eyes especially. Vulnerability with a strength hidden behind that sad smile.

And Kinji Fukasaku made some fun
films! Samurai Reincarnation is the latest of his that I’ve seen and while it isn’t among his best, it certainly is visually striking!
