Hobo Movies

So for my basic film making class I have to shoot a 7 to 8 min silent film for my final and I had no idea on what to do. Then my friend and I were talking about something and how he's going to end up as a crazy old bum and I decided to make exactly that. Well maybe not crazy...but I do want to make it about a Vagabond (working title ha). It's kinda going to be in the vein of Gummo where Harmony Korine just had these images in his mind he wanted to shoot and we are even going to try and recreate the bunny skating down a hill with his arms out scene but in a shopping cart. I have other, original, ideas as well but now to the point of this thread: What are some good hobo movies? ha, i just want to get some inspirado. I plan to watch Chaplin's The Kid but there's gotta be more out there.

ps they don't necessarily have to be silent

You might find Sullivan's Travels and Bound for Glory interesting... and several of Chaplin's earlier films were about the tramp...

I haven't seen Bound for Glory or Sullivan's Travels in ages... so just added them both to my queue...

I mean, Elmer Gantry is a bum, but I've only heard one member here actually describe their reaction to it after I put it at my #2.

It's worth looking into Chet. Its cheap and now they are streaming movies online. Which I have become addicted to. So I got that goin' for me, which is nice.

Hey Mofos...been a while. I've been preoccupied with school and other things so I don't really post on here anymore. I still come back every once and while to check Jrs Sequel Buzz thread and movie reviews and anything in the instant feed that catches my eye but I think, since my work load for this semester isn't too huge, I can spend a little more time on here now.

Anyway I wanted to show you guys the Hobo movie I made for my 16 mm Film class. Now it's my first film so go easy on me. I know theres some over exposed/underexposed shots and when I transferred it from film to video the aspect ratio got messed but I would like to know what the Mofos think of this!

Creating a silent film about a vagabond sounds like an interesting and creative idea for your film class project! Drawing inspiration from films with similar themes or settings can be a great way to enhance your understanding and refine your own storytelling style.
